Tech Tuesday Ep. #3

"Installing MRP's G2 SL chain guide"

I'm doing a new bike build and its my first one. normally to size a chain you can go big cog up front to big in the back and add two links to the chain. I am going to install a blackspire stinger chain tensioner also. should I do the big to big theory still?? I'm thinking it is going to be too tight then. should I put the tensioner on then run from big to big through the tensioner and add two links? if so that kind of takes away from having a tensioner no? I am planning on running a 36-24t crank and a 9 speed SRAM cassette with an XO medium cage rear derailleur... If I did the math right, with a sram medium cage being able to take up 37T and running a 36.24T up front with the 9 speed cassette. even at the smallest front to smallest back the derailleur should have to take up 36T. and since it can handle one more than that I am fine. but when it comes to the big/big it only has to take up 1T. so If I put a tensioner on, how does it affect these numbers?

and yes I realize that you never run big/big or small/small but this is just for sizing purposes so that I don't drop a chain etc....

thanks to anyone that can give me a clear answer. please break it down for me in to caveman terms if you can!! I'm new to this
