The Pinkbike Podcast: Getting to Know Henry Quinney
@ebschroderus: Hello there. I think you've maybe not quite got what I was trying to convey. That wasn't in relation to the content of that conversation, but rather, we should be comfortable with opinions existing, and other people's shouldn't affect our own happiness. I believe what other people think of us is none of our business, and I think we could all treat ourselves with a bit more compassion while also encouraging other people to have opinions, even if sometimes they can burn our fingertips slightly. People should be trusted with nuance, and if I offer an opinion, even if I then feel perhaps misinterpreted or taken out of context, I can't then be hurt that others disagree (even if they express their feelings in ways I perhaps don't think are particularly kind) - that's not the way the world works, and that was my takeaway. Life (and this job) are about freedom and expression around the things we love. I don't care for limiting anyone, even if it can sometimes sting a bit, and the exposure I have to other people's thoughts should be something we learn to embrace and not try and shut down, even if they conflict with our own. Dialogue and talking, as you probably guessed if you managed to stick out nearly 80 minutes of me waffling on, are so important to me. We should learn to encourage that, not shit on it because maybe it doesn't fit in with what we consider our own identity or ideals to be, or damn it as somehow invirtuous. We're all wretches in our own way. It's always good to think more, and maybe one day we'll talk about the conversation and not the conversation-around-the-conversation, which was largely more reflective of my personal feelings rather than the nuts and bolts of the topic. Like I said, I felt misrepresented because I often joke about things, and if Matt had been a social media star I would have wound him up the exact same way about racing, saying it's all these deluded nearly-riders giving it their best shot because they think they're Loic Bruni. That rub and burn is what makes the PB podcast fun, and trying to get Matt to "be more toxic" is a passion and a pastime in itself. I have little interest in making it more sanitised, I look forward to joking around with my friends and colleagues on many more pods which I hope you enjoy. Thank you for listening.

Great reminder. I think it would maybe be good to cover off some health-related topics and how they effect riding without just talking about one. I might try and get a few different guests each with an experience to share. Thanks for the nudge!

@wobblegoblin: I think so, but to be honest, I might be so out of touch that all my cultural references are at least a decade past relevance.

@bogdan75: yeah totally fair. Definitely learning, and there are still lots of things to do better. Thanks for sticking with it and I will hopefully continue to improve.

Just because that joke is predictable it doesn’t make it any less funny. In fact, perhaps even more so! Ha.

@ridedigrepeat: Ha that's fair, I'll add a little bit. It's in the subheader, but if you're on mobile you perhaps would not see it. Cheers!

That's a fair shout. I realised after we recorded. I think it still stands as an observation, even if it's not as clear-cut as I suggested. I just think the sports are so different, and didn't feel the comparison was exactly like-for-like. Thanks for listening
