A New 6-Day Enduro Is Launching In New Zealand Next Year
I'm no helicopter efficiency expert, but google tells me that a typical piston helicopter carrying 4 passengers + pilot is about 5 times less efficient per km travelled than an equivalent shuttle van. To drive up any given steep hill, the road you take will be a lot of zig-zags to get up the incline (the steeper the hill, the greater this applies). Typically then, if its 2km in a straight line from base to peak, you'll easily drive 10km up the mountain path to get up there by van. Whereas the heli can fly pretty much in a straight line (and save a lot of travel time, too). You do the math. Plus, its freakin' rad. Asides that, the carbon burned directly into the upper atmosphere by flying to NZ in the first place would make the above consideration pretty much irrelevant by comparison. My point is if you've ever jumped in a shuttle bus, and especially if you've ever taken a flight to go on holiday, the strength of this argument begins to sound more like a soap box / political principle issue, than a genuine ecological concern. This race could definitely be re-organised to have a much lower ecological impact. E-biking everywhere instead of shuttles of any form, would be an obvious way to go. But I have the feeling that this particular forum would like that idea, even less.

I WILL NOT STRIP THIS FRAME, SELL ANY PARTS SEPARATELY, OR ACCEPT ANY OFFERS - THIS IS A GENUINE BIKE, AS DESCRIBED - SEE MY 100% FEEDBACK (on ebay - arjamieson) AND BUY WITH CONFIDENCE BUT .....PLEASE.......... NO DREAMERS, TEST RIDERS, OR TIME WASTERS! No offers considered - this bike was RP 3300 GBP only a few weeks ago, and even that was a bargain!

Video: Nukeproof Mega – All Mountain Adventure
Hey Guys. As the founder of trailAddiction, and someone who loves these trails and mountains dearly, I feel obliged to comment here. Actually, I agree with the comments about an inappropriate style of riding shown in the video - when I saw the final cut, one of my first impressions was one of unease at the amount of "shredding" (in the sense of trail-erosion, not awesome riding!) that was shown. What I can honestly say is that this was not actually how the trail was ridden - rather deliberate edits for the sake of the film itself - as others have commented. Thanks to inthebigmountains for the balanced view on the actual errosive effect - Id like to echo those comments strongly. These mountains are a privilege to ride in, and whenever I find a new trail up here I see it as an honour to ride a trail that may well be previously untouched by bike tyres - perhaps EVER......and the sense of being one of a very few to experience that is actually a big part of the trailAddiction guiding experience. Noting that without natural, pristine trails up here, we'd not have a product worth selling, its very much in our interests to protect the natural environment around us. In practise this means riding respectfully - limiting which trails we ride, and how often - choosing to avoid certain trails when erosion would be more damaging (e.g. after heavy rain, a loamy, mossy, fragile trail might be substituted for a harder-packed, one). All of our guides will teach proper, respectful riding technique and this includes correcting a customer's "skidding" rear wheel switchback/cornering style.
