What Does the Vietnam Covid Shutdown Mean for Carbon Bikes?
No, it means all bike companies are reaping what they sowed. This is NOT covid's fault--it's THEIR fault, for sourcing labor and materials from communist countries halfway around the globe. Turns out exploiting labor at slave wages has a big back-end expense--potential bankruptcy when your house of vietnamese cards comes down. This whole cluster has been nothing short of an indictment of the bike, clothing, and retail industry generally. Build local, buy local. If you have to charge 15 to 20% more so be it, there are many who will gladly pay the premium to have US made bikes. But it may be too little too late for many of these co's. We'll see if anybody learns a lesson they can apply, assuming they survive the next 18 months with little to no revenue. This was all preventable. Covid is just a scape goat for their own sh*tty business practices.
