I wind it down for the hills to the lowest possible travel but do all descending at 160mm. Ive run it at 170mm (with a different spring) and at 150mm without adjusting it on extended rides and found that at 170mm (the bike was actually registered with a 170mm fork according to Dan Stanton when originally CE tested) the bike was just to sluggish and 'perched' if you see what I mean. I liked what 150 or even 140 did to the handling with the slightly lower BB and steeper HA as it felt like a little off road bmx but eventually settled at 160 as it was the best overall feel for me. I like the supported feeling, I like the high HT and slackish HA (66 dead I believe) so have settled with rarely changing accept for extended climbs when there is a big difference!
Ive got the RC2DH and I fitted a UTurn spring to give the travel adjust. If youve not got the RC2 damper then I suggest heavily that you use the floodgate removal mod (really good tutorial on here in the vid section) as it really turns a good fork great - cheap (free) and completely reversible so there is nothing to lose! I only stress this as Ive only rode Lyriks for four years and have ridden both versions of the fork - its like night and day!
cheers for the indepth reply! THink i'll look at the floodgate mod. Out of interest what spring are you running? I've got a medium that came with it but at 68kg i'm thinking i need the soft
Surprised to hear it's so good at 160mm. This pleases me Heard a lot of ppl say 140 is fine. That's what i love about the lyrik you can wind it down
A quick google reveals Im 68.9kg and I run the medium - I tried all three as mine came with all three 170mm length springs. I got about 23/4% sag with the medium and 28% sag with the soft but just preferred how the medium rode, more supported (which makes me sound far more professional than I deserve!) - usually you can get the springs in the buy sell section (I got mine for £25 I think of some chap) as I suspect you have to take a bit of a punt but really just need to feel them out to see what works best.
Well, I cant recommend a stanton enough - Ive been riding one for 18 months or so and I love it I singlespeed it in the winter for simplicity but otherwise its ideal! Drop me a lie if you start building a hard tail, Id love to see it, up and have a flick through this thread for some inspiration perhaps - www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=131375
At 5'10 I find this one a lot more playful and fun - I was lucky to find a chap who had a 16 and wanted to upsize so was able to swap! I really appreciate having the space between my legs to manoeuvre especially on the hard-tail as you obviously get a lot more frame movement relative to your body than on a full suss so its given my legs few extra inches of travel if you will! Fits like a glove though - Ive had the 16 for around a year now and Ive no complaints at all!
do you keep your's down to 140/150? or do you change them often
