my old 2010 stanchions.. now hardcoated in black PTFE.. a lot of mx-tuning company's can do that if u want to.. its way smoother than before.. compared to my 2012 fox36 it is not as smooth as the current 2012 kashima coating, but maybe the black stanchions need some travel time.. anyway i payed 170€ for them instead of ~600€ for kashima stanchions..
could you give some examples of companies that would do a PTFE coating? I have some 2010 stanchions andI'm trying to decide on getting them PTFE coated or just getting 2012 Kashima ones. Are the PTFE stanchions smoother than the 2010 regular stanchions?
but be careful! mx-forks have stanchions made out of steel.. the fox40 and most of the mtb-forks are made out of aluminium.. (the only fork with steel stanchions i know is RS domain SC/DC ^^) ..that means not every known mx-coating will work on our forks stanchions! even my ptfe coating is more like a prototype version... there is no warranty of the coatings durability! all i know is: ptfe is more constant than the dlc coating - we (i) will see
second: imo the ptfe coating is smoother than the regular ones.. but not as smooth as the kashima coat from my fox36 .. thats all i can say at the moment.. we will see in which conditions the stanchions will be after this season
