That bailout doesn't necessarily have anything to do with either Ford or Chevy's cars, that was only a small part of the problem. The CEO's and management of GM kind of screwed it over, and Ford is lucky to have a good CEO....... Chevy needing a bailout has no effect over how awesome some of their cars are, like this Camaro......
no...the original Camaro was rushed into production to get a piece of the market Mustang was dominating. They were similar n that they both were RWD V8/V6 platforms. Looks were different. THe camaro/firebird was so badly outsold in the late 90's that they were both discontinued in 2002. They weren't "BAD" bud badly marketed so boxxerman is right to some degree. Here's the thing....all 3 domestic companies continued to build heavy gas guzzling SUVs with old engine tech and out dated manufacturing processes while the Japanese have gone from turd but 4cylinders no one wants to building attractive and POWERFUL cars that have greater value than their domestic counterparts. NAFTA allowed them to come here and build cars on US soil for about 1/3 less than the big 3. My argument is that there is not one thing you can blame but a multitude of reasons for GMs financial meltdown. And yes some thier cars were gay! So were FORDS and I'm a die hard mustang guy! Which brings me to my next point. In 2005 Ford released the "retro" style mustang and it was a huge success! The new Mustangs are fast agile and even win in racing against Porsche & BMW(KOni ChaLLENGE / Speed WTC). Chevy COPIED the method and made their own RETRO style Camaro. Sure the egines are different. The Camaro has IRS and is a crap load heavier, but they're similar and that's OK! Dodge did the same thing!
OK...sorry for the poor grammar and length. There's a lot to understand and saying one this is "gay" or another is "cool" is just opinion. There's a lot to know about the history of automobiles. Remember I'm a die hard Mustang fan..... Chevy has made mistakes. They posted billions in loses in 2005 while their CEO said they would make it up with their new line of SUVs....GAS WAS HITTING OVER $4 A GALLON! It didn't work! Ford has gone through countless CEO too so they didn't do well based upon 1 guy. Ford started making thy're stuff cheaper to build like Toyota does. Modular is the name for Ford engines and that is due to the fact it takes 30 minutes to change the tooling to go from making a V8 to a V6. More efficient than in the past. Ford started layoffs and closings sooner than GM. In the end Gm needed bail-out money and Ford didn't...but that is OK! Even though Chevy is bad off they still have built the new Camaro(like it more than the stang!) and the new ZR1 which is a Godzilla crushing beast! All while filing bankruptcy! NOT BAD, HUH? Even the Japanese have had similar problems. Nissan is controlled by Renault a french company that was once gov't owned and then bought Nissan and poured billions into them to make them what they are today! Books have been written about their turn around! While going bankrupt Nissan around the late 90's; Nissan was able to build some of the best spec Skylines and by 2003 had released the new 350Z. Today they have the new GTR which is awesome but has its issues...LOL. Hell I could go one about Mitsubishi and Mazda(1/3 owned by Ford since 1989!) but won't waste any more time.... GM may have taken bail out money but they will be on top again! Just look at history and you'll see many similar stories!
