I think you need to go out and get forked.
But I do agree that the rampant misuse of the component nomenclature is annoying to the more astute among us.
i think avery25 is right if other people can put up with people saying forks instead of fork then why can't you? it just proves that you have to much time on your hands and would rather be putting shit like this on the Internet than doing something useful
seriously man, 1 set is called forks, its not called a fork for instance, "check out this new fork i got for my bike" its sounds retarded "check out these sick new forks i got for my bike" sounds alot better.
"Do you want forks or a spoon to eat your coleslaw?"
forks is plural.. go look on fork manufacturing companies, they even use the term "fork" when talking about one specific fork or "forks" when talking about a group of forks
i think u can do watever u want... cuz the suspension company says fork and most every one else does too, but do u ever here someone say "dude look at my new pant!" no u dont... its te same concept... but i do think its retarted wen people call it forks...
Fender101Punk....thats the stupid thing ever. a fork that you eat with is plural but there is only one, suspension forks are FORKS because they are 2 legs, therefore it is FORKS.
NO MORON! You idiot, the individual little sticks on a dining fork are called PRONGS. A metal stick with two to five prongs on the end is called a fork. So the thing on the front of your bike is a fork. It has two prongs but in the MTB world they are called legs or stanchions.
OK! if nobody is actually sure why not ask someone from marzocchi or fox or rockshox? they say its ONE FORK! not FORKS! (like this picture says) and an eating fork (something you eat with) is called one fork. guess why? cuz it is in the shape of a fork. more examples are a pitch fork or a tuning fork they are all the same shape! the shape is called a fork http://www.dontdrinkthekoolaidblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/fork.jpg IM DONE BYE NOW
This is terrible an arguement with 110 comments so far all over a pair of forks... also a few sets of forks on the right ....it doesnt really matter what you call them at the end of the day people know what youre talking about...e.g "handlebars" everyone calls them bars or handle bars when theres only one set..theres no big deal about it.
You know how... fishes are often a school of fish.. I think forks need that.
We will call the unit of measure, a Yammy... 3 or more forks, is a Yammy of fork....
to honor Yammy's contribution to the mountain biking community, and love of forks.
I actualy asked an english professer at UoA the otehr day and i got this answer: "either is propper, how ever it depends on the tense used. for example "you should get this forks" is improper were as "you should buy that fork" is propper.
Did you know that forks "plural" is also referring to the fact that there are two forks on each set? That's why it's also called "a set of forks". So when I say "my forks", I'm referring to the set I have on my bike. Because there are two of them. One on each side of my wheel.
So what you have in the picture there is one set of forks on the left, and a plethora of fork sets on the right. There are 17 definitions of what a fork is in the English Dictionary. The explanation in this photo is the wrong one.
just putting it out there, personally i would say forks ... a pair of forks being one... a pair of trousers being one ... a pair of boxers ... a pair of pants .. all being one ..
i think most of us are pretty lazy to say "a new fork" instead of just "need new forks" or saying "my forks been gay lately.." the "forks" could be a shortened mtbiking term for "my fork has been.." we're just too lazy..we have better things to worry about..like our run time in the dh races, or what upgrade i should get next...as long as the other guy your talking to understands what your saying..if they just end up correcting your silly small mistake, then theyre just being a big fat jerk..jerk-offs..
and what? i have fox forks... have u ever thorght i may have more than one pair of fox's? i do so jus why go so hypa over a silly little thing like an s of the end of a word?
no really one is a fork! not a forks!!! i need new forks for my DJ bike: 1 rigid fork and 1 suspension fork!!! but i need only one dual-crown fork for my DH bike with one crown under my steering tube and another above the steering tube! i don't really need a triple crown fork cause there is nowhere i could clamp the third one...
some idiot was selling Saint Cranks on e-bay! but it appeared to be only one!!! retard!!!
there are some words that can't be singular pants>... why is it a fork?? cause you have 2 legs in it... you don't call your utensils fork forks do you?? if you do you are probably a retardS!!!
and what? i have fox forks... have u ever thorght i may have more than one pair of fox's? i do so jus why go so hypa over a silly little thing like an s of the end of a word?
this picture is right though. every one else is stupid and stuff. how could you eat food with a forks unless u use two. who uses two forks to eat? maybe a fat kid or somethin. no wat im sayin?
