maybe he should have neck brace and full body armour on too in that case?! see how many bmx riders go with that option.......................im all for protection but in full form, whats the point preaching that everyone should wear helmets when serious injuries can occur anywhere on the body, not just the tiny portion a skid-lid covers!
Poosticks, it's not about people telling you to wear one or not. It's about you thinking of your own safety. Wearing a helmet decreases chances on a hospital journey. Don't wear one, fine by me. Wear one, the better for you. Just don't come crying the day you have a brain injury.I'm not sure because I never studied anatomics further than the development of my penis and female genitalia, but I believe your head is the most important part of your body.
It's free advice on basic body protection you're rejecting.
'Poosticks, it's not about people telling you to wear one or not.'
but thats exactly what everyone is doing though? isnt it?! im a firm believer in protection, just winds me up that folk are always preaching about helmets but forget the other 95% of your body. I agree with ya point, just not the method of getting it across! end of day, were all here for the same thing, were all riders, everyone knows the dangers and if some-one choses to ignore the advice then so be it, they know the dangers so people constantly mentioning the no helmet thing is getting old?! surely im not the only tahts thinks this way.
No, they are not forcing you to wear one (unless you're trying to make POD and don't want to wear one). They remind to wear one once in a while because new members join each day and they might not be aware of safety.
- street- and parkriders and dirtjumpers do a lot of tricks, so can only wear a helmet, knee- and elbowguards to decrease the maximum amount of damage they can take while still being able to perform all the tricks they want.
- downhillers don't do real tricks. A whip, a no-hander, a scrub... They go faster, so they should wear more protection.
- xc racers can't wear all that equipment because their performance would go down the drain and their bodies would overheat.
- same story for road racers.
It's all about taking risks. You could die walking off stairs...
BMXers why the hell you don't wear a helmet? Just give me reason! one good reason why not to wear a helmet. And... dont tell me: its own preference - that is not a answer for this question. You can say that when asked: do you think everyone should wear a helmet? Or do you prefer to shit into the toilet or to the basket? Please give me an argument against wearing a helmet...
just to let you know not all BMXers don't wear helmets... it personal preferance really, if the rider wants to risk getting totally F'd then its his/her fault...
Ok i took it too far with saying to all BMXers. At the same time I asked for saome certain argument besides that stupid personal preference argument which in fact is not true either. Lets just skip it. WHAT IS THE REASON NOT TO WEAR A HELMET WHILE RIDING IN PARK, STREET OR OR DIRT?
dude, sure some kids are idiots and think its cool to ride without a helmet, but some riders just feel more comfortable riding without a helmet park - i always wear a helmet (if its a real park) street - only if im tryin stuff im not used to, if im just 3 tappin off a curb or doin a manuel then i don't wear one ( personal preferance) dirt - i normally wear a helmet cuz the stuff can get sketchy (especially if your in a wooded area
the argument is, most people would wear a piss pot/skidlid/whatever, which would save the top of your head, what about the other 60-75% of your head?! surely that suggestion would mean everyone wearing full face lids?!
nah nah nah, im sorry but your wrong, i work as a paramedic, the risk of serious injury or death from an impact anywhere on the head is high, e.g. cervical vertebrae on back of neck, nasal bone intrusion into brain, the eye orbits, fracture of skull (area under helmet). Dont get me wrong, i agree a pisspot/xc lid cuts down on the amount of vunerable areas but even if you take a hard hit directly on the lid theres still concussion.whiplash/etc to consider.
so basically long story short, ride within your limits, if it looks silly, chances are it will be and your gonna screw up.
the whole point of wearing a helmet is to protect the most important part of the body, the difference is if you break a leg or an arm it will heal in time. break your skull you might be able to make a full recovery, but in the most cases you will have serious damage that will never heal. this is one of those arguments that you just cant win, so stop trying so hard to fight it and just accept that every one should wear a helmet regardless of riding ability or terrain.
It's funny that (seemingly) a lot of 20" riders still don't wear helmets because it's not cool or they are too badass for a helmet. Brain damage is pretty cool too though. They'd probably crash less if they wore something besides those leotard-jeans.
they only dont wear them as they think its not cool and will probs mess up there hair and there mates will rip them for wearing one
but who gives a shit what u look like i would rather have a face and wear a helmet than not and have my friends think im cool
just to let you know its not only people who ride bmx that don't wear helmets... i know tons of MTB riders that don't lol, but oh well...stereotypes are fun?
dude, thats pretty harsh... just because some people wipe doesn't mean its more stupifity that skill. let see you try to fo half the stuff aaron ross does...
i don't get why some bmxer's think its funny 2 face planting walls and fuck themselves up and wear jeans around there ass...... so that is why i think the majority of bmxers are stupid and they should get a life.
okay
1. whoa, i know a crap load of downhillers that wheres their pants low.
2. people don't purposly fuck themselves up, shit happens sometimes... and some people are just willing to risk it. if its not your thing then thats okay, don't complain about other people doin it since we're not complaining about it either.... just chill out dude
i suspect konastuff guy is a bit of a noob?! bmx is way more tech than MTB, i know, i ride both, plus look at the trail type tricks bmx riders pull compared to MTB riders?!
Konastuff13: Your a dolt. I mountain bike. Yes, MOUNTAIN bike, with my pants low. I realize Im commenting on a super old argument, I dont care. It pisses me off when idiots like you stereotype others, for how we wear our pants, for our tattoo's, for our hair. Its like saying, hey. You got blue eyes.... Are you gay? On that note, you got blue eyes and blonde hair. Are you a nazi?(No disrespect to german's, Im german, strictly an example.) Bmx'ers are bikers, just like you or I, I dont like bmx'ing personally, but the riders are sick. Were ALL bikers here. Are you saying that if you saw a bmx'er wiped out on the sidewalk, youd ride by and laugh? Because he or she is on a different style of bike then you? I admit, if I had to ride with a bmx'er, or a mtb'er Id obviously go ride with my own people. If I was ripping up street and saw a bmx'er, HELL YES I would go ride with them. They are still a rider. I agree with 'rebeliousbiker' in saying that they dont purposely mess themselves up. You crash, I crash, we all do.
Its stereotypical retards LIKE YOU that give us all a bad name, bmx'ers, mtb'ers, all accross the board, we all have to represent ourselves, and eachother. Idiot.
Look Aaron Ross may be an amazing rider but never the less, SHIT HAPPENS, that's why I agree with what browner said, a cap isnt gonna help JACK if you land on your head, just wear a helmet and be safe, I dont think you wanna give your mom the trouble of having to feed you with a spoon everyday for the rest of your life just because you were dumb enough not to wear a helmet when riding...
FFS, guys, i hate to point this out but a pisspot/skidlid aint gonna save your face and somehow i suspect a full face myabe a bit unyieldy for the average joe bmx. correct me if im wrong.............
