They arent harder to control, they are just more reactive so thats why you gotta be more carefull with it.

Uberurban you can't get the same stiffness with a smaller sprocket, and it's most likely that the chainring weighs in very similar to a smaller chainring.
It would be lighter with a smaller sprocket but if you tried to get the same ratio then you just put ALOT more strain on the chain, sprocket and cassette wheel than if it was 44-16
The spokes are radial laced. Instead of crossing each other like on a 2x or 3x pattern, they go straight from the hub to the rim, allowing shorter spokes and thusly less rotational weight.
