Gripshifts are wank if you dont cut down your grip. Otherwise you end up having one brake lever a lot further from the end of the bar on one side than the other. Then you hands tend to be no longer level because you want to hold it in a good position for the brake. Then it throws you off on most riding styles. Otherwise they're all right.

 To be honest I think triggers are way better as you have more room on the grips whe doing tricks like no handers, etc.
