Selected by Scott Secco - Harookz joined Graham Agassiz, Matty Miles, and Sherpas Cinema on a photo and video trip to Iceland. If this shot is anything to go by, we're in for a treat.
Sometimes a photo is about the emotions it stirs. Yes clarity is important but think of the intentionally blurred photos out there and the wow factor they have. Opinions are like a*sholes, everyone has one and my pucker factor says: Great shot!!
No offense to the cameraman and the rider (because Sherpas is obviously top notch - same with Aggy), but I really hope something better than this gets nominated for photo of the year. Pinkbike, how dare you make such a recommendation. Its grainy AND blurry, which ruins the depth of the photo. It might make a cool poster, but its no POY shot. Yah, its better than a potato shot of a kid hitting a 1ft tall wedge in a field and jumping over his friend, but COME ON.
This is fog. This is not grainy. It gets a bit grainy if you zoom way in, but how does the photo look on a computer screen when you can see the whole photo?
The biking photo is grainy at regular size. What kind of screen are you using?
First- There's nothing wrong with grain. Some of the greatest photographs of all time have had monster amounts of grain and it doesn't ruin the depth of the photo. Second- It's not blurry. Go to the 1600 pixel version & look. Graham is in focus (which is a challenge in conditions like this) Third- What makes you think that Pinkbike recommends this for Photo of the Year?
It was how it was advertised a month ago when I saw it (it might have been on the homepage or something), combined with the fact that it is titled POY submission.
Its a cool photo, but the graininess takes away from the photo rather than adding to it since the rider is already hard to spot. It might also have to do with where the rider is in the composition - my eyes weren't drawn to the rider at all, whereas with that golden sillouette POY a few years ago (I think with the Claw), you couldn't take your eyes off of the rider.
Ok. Well, I won't get into an argument about your personal opinion of the image but just for future reference- any Pinkbike user can title any photo album that they upload whatever they want. Harookz just chose to title this album "POY-2014-Submission" because it contains the one image he wanted to submit. But you could put up an album filled with pictures of your neighbor's cat and title it "The Most Amazing Pictures the World has Ever Seen".
I said it was advertised AKA endorsed by pinkbike a month ago. Holy Mother Trucker!
Picture of the fucking year here everyone! And yes, there is a mountain biker in the photo for anyone who didn't see it on first glance because he is lurking in the back like a sasquatch in a scifi nut's photo.
