@Livewire88: If that's correct Pinkbike needs to give an explanation for this surely!!! What are the odds that someone is chosen at 'random' twice?
  • 38 0
He clearly needed a helmet to go along with his new bike.
  • 14 3
 I am disgusted!

@stinkbikelies you should get on that case!

 Merry Christmas to him...

IT is possible, if unlikely. Winning one draw has no effect on the outcome of the next. Hes been a member for nearly 4 years and seems to use the buysell, so its not a bot account.

but he'll need a proper helmet for his new jumpbike

I remember reading some where that a computer can never be truly random...

Yeah we read the prize didn't sent to the winner and now double winner..your clarificatio please @pinkbike thanks a lot
  • 17 6
Also, as it stands, all but one of the winners barely even use PinkBike... prizes should be "fairly" given to those who actually use PinkBike as it should be used....
  • 9 11
 @cbro7092: Couldn’t agree more...
  • 66 4
I would actually love to see the outrage if I won something... it’s the only thing that keeps me clicking on that thing. The vision of world on fire. I would read the comments listening to peacuful cello music
  • 49 0
@cbro7092: I don't think that Pinkbike useage is something you can define. I rarely comment or post stuff on buy/sell, but I am up do date with most posts and I do buy stuff off the classifieds. Lots of people are probably just hear to read stuff rather than actively contribute to conversations.

People, chill out. Considering the activity in his/her profile, you should be able to buy these products straight from the Pinkbike buy/sell department a few weeks from now.
  • 1 0
@K1maxX: Nee, he needed a jumpbike to go with his new helmet.
  • 6 0
@SuperXav I'm not saying this one is rigged but some of these web draws are not random, the marketing guys sometimes pick a winner based on a location they want to sell more stuff/raise awareness.

Curiously not long after entering one of these advent giveaways I received a contact request from one of their staffers on Linked in so I suspect marketing teams are scanning them or it was a big coincidence.

@BenPea: Well as discussed in previous articles... what about people creating loads of accounts so they can do multiple entries in the competition? Or even people who don't care about biking winning and then selling the item straight away?

 @cbro7092: So true!!!

@cbro7092: It's not a charity for "deserving" pinkbike commenters. Otherwise prizes should be given straight away to @WAKIdesigns and @redshift

@cbro7092: what we need to do is only allow PB users registered for 10 years or longer ...
  • 5 2
@cbro7092: ah OK, not PB in general then... For a minute I thought there were accepted conventions, e.g. rule 1: don't compare MTB and skiing, rule 2: don't insult cities in Nevada, rule 3: don't review Evil bikes...
  • 1 0
@nojzilla: If you are ever interested, reading up on ways we try to generate "randomness" is pretty fascinating.

@WAKIdesigns: pinkbike lies you know they're all backdooring each other when no one's looking. Remember the results from their shitshow last year. Oops we accidentally posted the results from 2 years ago. Sure I believe you pinkbike and I won't come in your mouth either.

  • 1 0
Burn it to the ground!!! @Smallbright:
  • 8 3
Damn, just when PB was doing so well with Field Test stuff and things were looking up. Now we gotta grab our pitch forks again and make our empty threats of discontinuing our use of this free site, as we have zero leverage elsewise. Just give give Waki the wheels and someone else the helmet and all is forgiven.
  • 2 1
Would you comment this if you'd win twice?
  • 11 1
I was at a Christmas party last week with my wife and 2 kids. I got 4 tickets handed to me for the draw prizes. I won twice, well technically 2 members of my family won. When I won the first prize I was stoked, when my other ticket was called I turned it down and gave the call guy my remaining tickets, I didn't feel me winning twice was fair. Maybe pinkbike should implement the same sort of idea, win once and your name is pulled from the contest.
  • 1 0
@cbro7092: There are legal reasons this can't happen.
  • 2 0
@TheR: Fair enough... but what @Tmackstab says is at least a small thing PB can do.
  • 2 1
@stinkbikelies: hey hey don’t leave, I need your input on your workouts, cardio side of things in particular, unless you want to tell me it’s all skill and luck... come on, I am your channel for the cockyness you cannot otherwise exercise to not get people talk sht Smile

Cheers!
  • 5 6
Congrats to cjewell he's just a pretty lucky guy! Don't blame him or pinkbike! Nothing is impossible ????????‍♂️
  • 2 0
Might have been a typo? It is now showing the winner on the 2nd as Kdawg323. I'd love to win twice so props if someone else is that lucky! Thanks for putting these together Pinkbike.
  • 2 0
@meathooker: 10...thats an exclusive group buddy, I see what you did there. 5 though, seriously.
  • 3 0
@snl1200: Common Sense might have kicked in. Pinkbike contacted the double winner and asked them to keep one and then they could re-draw for the other to keep things fair
  • 2 0
@nickirwin: and surprisingly he went for the bike...That´s a shocker for sure.
  • 3 0
@Mondbiker: Give the guy/gal a break. Call me naive, but I don't think this PB member is to blame to have won more than once. If PB then comes saying "technically you have won both but it would be nice if you could return one of these, whichever you choose" I think it is fair enough this rider goes for the bike. Also because a quick scan through the profile reveals he/she already owns a mid/long travel bike so chances are the helmet is already there, but a smaller flickable bike would be welcome. Nothing wrong with that. Sure we shouldn't miss any opportunity to complain but there is a time to stop.
  • 4 0
@vinay: in a positive nihilistic way... why would anyone give a damn if they haven't won anyways...
  • 4 0
I'm showing two different guys for December 4th and 2nd. Did they change it?
  • 1 1
@WAKIdesigns: Impossible! With how much you comment, I would figure Pink Bike employs would be disqualified.
  • 1 0
@Jenstin: I don't have it... I also searched for the word "winner" but could not find anything except comments...

 @JesseE: money laundry
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: No, he just got two free bikes from pinkbike, one of which he sold for clean money. They can't handle randomization.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: get off this pathetic sight and go out and spend time in the wonderful Outdoors on a modern-day marveled two-wheel analog bike.
  • 1 0
@stinkbikelies: it's the dark days here man. Sun is up 9-15. I work in this time with no hope of flexing. I ride weekends only. I just lift and sprint in the evenings. I may even consider a road ride.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: it's in the 70s here nice and sunny. To the rest of the haters out there in the world please tell me again how horrible it is to live and ride in flat Florida. I'll think about all you snowbirds while I'm out on a shred today shirtless. May your spring arrive soon or a good freeze to get rid of that sticky mud. I hate cold temperatures because they mess with my tune.
  • 1 0
@stinkbikelies: I am fine with that. There is nothing I hate more than folks who tell me to ride in the dark with lights... I do it once in a while, but I hate it. It give you a few interesting spooky esperiences and then wires your brain to do look down what is coming under the front wheel. No thanks. I'd rather setup slalom cones on a snowy parking lot and do scandinavian flicks on a DJ
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: you need to go ride in the dark with lights between some cones. The next day you will find out you will have skills like Aaron Gwin. You know this is true it's on pinkbike and the internet.
  • 1 0
@stinkbikelies: I actually do that from time to time Smile I have 20 cones and setup something inspired by ski slalom track, long turns mixed with fast rhythm turns. How do you think I learned to take off 1 ply tyres off the rear wheel in berms Smile when done on a bmx this simple thing can actually get sketchy. I even put them so that there is a water pool on the way. Did it on gravel road once too.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: gravel for the win gravel in the rain separates the men from the boys
  • 1 0
@stinkbikelies: really? I find dry gravel way worse, it's like riding on ball bearings or sand on asphalt. Water binds the finer particles and you can sink the tyres into it. I like wet. everything wet. Wet slides seem more predictable, on the dry, you're down, BAM! Even wet roots on off camber. I know they are deadly, it's in the contract. So I pay attention. But bone dry park, welcome Sir all the grip in the world for you today, everywhere, except... THERE! BAM!
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: Do your DJ tires bite? I expect them to be similar to my BMX tires and they don't bite at all. I dropped pressure to just below 1.5 bar or so and that helps but I'm not expecting much from them. My local pumptrack is gravel over concrete and if I lose it and go a bit wide so that I end up on the off camber end of the next bump the bike slides out and my body slams into it. I haven't found an other solution than to just sweep it before my session and wear more and more protection. Guess I'm just a boy then Wink .
  • 1 0
@vinay: erm... I run my DJ tyres at 3.5 - 4 bar. Bontragers XR2. Plenty of bite for what they are. When they will get worn out I'll get Kendas small block 8. Or Maxxis Pace but Kendas are much chaper. Maybe Schwalbe tabletop. BMX? Slicks all the way, no bite, just speed. How can you pump a corner on a pump track or land a dirt jump a bit sideways with 1.5bar?! Every case when doing a double will end up with a puncture. Bejesus.
  • 1 0
 @WAKIdesigns: This is the pumptrack:

twiskemountainbikeroutes.nl/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/pumptrackvanboven900x600.jpg

When going counterclockwise, the left upper corner and aiming for that left straight gives me trouble. I can go high in the berm and get all support, but I end up wide scrambling to get back onto that next bump instead of sliding off the side. I can go lower in that berm to line up properly for that straight section but I need grip to make it through that level corner. Other lines are fine but you need to be precise or you'll slide off the sides. This is no pretty Velosolutions tarmac track with perfectly perpendicular bumps, but I've got to do with what I have. Yes the pumptrack at the bottom of Isaberg is gravel too but I recall the bumps were wider and not as rounded to the sides. Haven't managed to double anything on this one, just transfer from berm to berm in that right hand section. Haven't punctured yet. It doesn't have any sharp lips and BMX rims aren't as narrow as MTB ones.
  • 1 0
@vinay: try the dmr supermoto. it rolls like a slick but offers a lot of traction on dirt and gravel. i used to ride them with around 5bar and they still hold on quite well.
www.dmrbikes.com/Catalogue/Wheels-tyres/Tyres/Supermoto
  • 1 0
@vinay: Vinay - I cannot imagine myself or any of my friends riding pumptrack at speeds allowing me to do doubles and not puncture or warp a tyre even at 2bar. Especially those 90 degree turns you have there. All I can see is that roller spacing on your track is quite big so I am not sure I would be able to double anything there, we would though be able to get some considerable speed into some of these corners. 1.5bar is very, very little. Most Dirt Jumpers and (skate) park riders run 3.5-4.5bar. They are more than fine on Ikons, Pace, Kenda Smallblock 8, SChwalbe Tabletop, even Maxxis DTH.
  • 2 0
@K1maxX: That tyre looks like something I might like! Did you try the Halo Twinrail?
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: no, haven't tried them but i know them from my bmxy friends.
  • 1 0
@K1maxX: not many places who sell that DMR tyre, but it looks damn well. Actually, since I am a dweeb with both brakes, I could consider getting this for the front and slick for the rear.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: thats right, they can be hard to get.
i currently ride the schwalbe tabletop for the front and the dmr in the back. it feels quite good but I'm not sure if i can trust the schwalbe a 100% on an asphalt pumptrack.
  • 1 0
@vinay: how do you like that track? I’m going got be building one in the next few months and have been looking for ideas.
  • 1 0
@meathooker: check out Lee McCormacks book on the subjectS
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: I completely agree with you on that. I only say the rain because of the stigma of today's Riders and riding on wet trails. In the early days of mountain biking that was a guaranteed we'd all be out when the trails were muddy. We used to root like pigs on those trails. I remember unhooking the cables off of my the brakes so the tire would be able to spin from the amount of mud that was sticking to it. Today's mountain biking is nothing like it used to be in the early days. The only thing that stays the same is Everything Changes. Try to ride a muddy Trail in today's world and get beat down by Trail Builders with pitchforks and shovels. Maybe one better maybe you get a citation and have to pay a fee to the local Trail builders. I love riding on wet muddy Trails I don't care what it does to the system. I'll go back when it's dry and do my grooming in tuning if I did any damage. Those who ride in the wett slick can ride on anything. Now let go of your brakes and pedal pedal pedal and follow me through this wet muddy Root Garden.
  • 1 0
@meathooker: The track is indeed a design bought from LeeMcCormack. I personally have his book on pumptrack riding, but I don't own the actual design. Someone else bought it, I merely maintain.

I think it is fun but yeah I'm still struggling a little as I find it hard to trust it. And to line up properly after that upper left corner as mentioned.

@WAKIdesigns : Yeah, I probably need to increase pressure a little again. I used to be at much higher pressure than you're mentioning and I decided to go the complete other direction to see if it works. Grip has increased so that's good. Not sure if my tires are squirming or I'm just drifting over the loose gravel. I don't see myself double one of these yet, at least not on the BMX. Riding the track on my hardtail is much easier. But I like the BMX because I can ride for a half hour and put it away dirty without any care. Either way, if it does work well with grip but I do end up puncturing too often I thought I could always go tubeless and install an insert. But yeah, I might need to look at different tyres too. Not sure what I'm using actually. Tioga in the rear I think, Odyssey in the front probably. They're probably a decade old. They don't really wear but yeah I guess you're right and I should be looking for a replacement.
  • 1 0
@vinay: I am not sure what to tell you. Sometimes I ride slicks pumped to 3,5-4bar on my local gravel pumptrack. Weird about that pumptrack being designed according to Lee’s principles. The distance between those rollers there is quite big.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: I don't know. It is easy to develop a lot of speed. At least much more than I'm able to control on my BMX. So in that respect the distance between the rollers is fine. But I need to be very precise. I might take my bike to that huge tarmac track Velosolution built in Roosendaal. It seems like you can get away with anything over there, so wide and such high berms. But yeah I don't see myself double them yet. I've seen pictures of people doing so, so it should be possible. The picture in the link below appears to be the gap in the upper left corner from the final roller into that berm. So yeah, it is doable.

twiskemountainbikeroutes.nl/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/pumptrack02-1.jpg

That said, rode it on my hardtail a few times and it was surprisingly easy. I've got 120mm of travel up front so it is more forgiving if your timing is off. If you're on the BMX, you're down.

I'll check with the guy who bought the plan from Lee. This is the first time I looked at the areal view like this and now I'm wondering if it was really supposed to be like this.
  • 1 0
@vinay: everything is forgiving with right technique. I cased the crap out of rollers on our loca BMX track, including those straight after the run in. As long as you extend the landing gear... if you try to tuck and don’t make it, especially on a bigger gap, you get fragged
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: Oh yeah, I can absorb and compensate for a lot. It is not about the impact, more about the timing. Even though I'd probably not be able to gap anything, it is easy to catch some air even when you don't intend to. And it is when you touch down that the bike is at its most nervous, skidding and with the bars trying to flip around. I can hold on most of the time, just saying that on the mtb this simply isn't present. But this is when I do need some grip from my tires. Of course I don't need much just for riding berms and rollers. I do have to add that I'm just starting to ride that track again. I decided to ride the trails while they were good (until recently) and get back onto the pumptrack when riding the mtb trails could lead to excessive erosion. Which is now. So I'm probably not great at analyzing the whole thing. I do feel the suspension fork helps with traction and so do the wide and soft mtb tires. Not for the riding the track when all is well, but for saving my ass when it goes pear shaped. And yeah as for pressure, I think I used to have these tires at 6bar or so. Just dropped them to 1.5bar to try the other end of the spectrum. I still need to try that middle ground. I might try new tires too someday but I'm always a bit hesitant to invest in that fifteen year old bike. 48 spokes per wheel, 14mm axles, ACS freewheel, American BB... New tires are almost as expensive as half a new bike, 4kg lighter than mine.

I’m surprised more than a handful of people actually entered the competition. I thought 99% of pinkbikers think Enve wheels are too expensive, overrated and they wouldnt be seen dead riding on them.

I don't believe these giveaways. Regarding the ENVEs, there's no way they're giving away a 3k wheelset. Sorry. I'm sure a staff account will win, or someone who would've been receiving them from ENVE anyway. ENVE isn't making enough sales from PB to be giving away wheels like this. There's no ROI.
And how many times have we all seen the IG/FB/etc giveaways from these social "influencers" go directly to their friends when it's supposed to be random. It's been documented.

Hell...I started a business and ran it for 5 years before selling. I did holiday giveaways that were legit. It was time consuming AF, but I did it honestly. I also wasn't giving away 3k wheels. I'm talking 100 in product 2 or 3x a year.

It is obvious the majority of the winners will be staff accounts. No one will ever be able to prove it so not much we can do.
