Some beautiful bikes this year! Got to be the grey Chromag for me!
  • 7 3
If you think the Chromag looks good you should see the limited edition oil slick electroplated version. Match it up with their oil slick stem, bars, and pedals!
  • 10 1
 Chromag Helm yes
  • 9 8
I agree, but I do feel the style/quality of the photo also helps it out . . . would have been nice to have consistent backdrops/lighting to compare . . .but still the Chromag for me. . . oh those tan walls!!
  • 5 1
@spgrace: Chromag, is so good looking it allows me to look past the gum wall tires. For that reason, I vote for the Stanton with over frame sexy appeal and build of the bike.
  • 5 8
@airtym: the tan walls are great dude!
  • 5 1
There are probably more exotic and higher-level craft bikes but the Chromag is the one I'd want to own. Numbers and ascetics are bang on.
  • 6 1
More detailed "Greymag" photos can be found here for anyone interested:

@privateer-wbc: tan walls look nice at first, but keep them far away from any AM/FR/Enduro bike I'd ride...

 CM 4 shore!

@privateer-wbc: Stealth appeal is real, black side walls for life.

 @airtym: I rather like my tan-walls =)

Beautiful thing about tires though, is they are easy to change!
  • 2 0
@MuskratMatt: up early buddy??? I thought I saw one of those hangin on AMC ‘s wall eh???
  • 34 1
I'm not sure how many of the nom's are actively chatting here, but I for one feel compelled to say thank-you. I built the "Greymag" purely for my own enjoyment not thinking it would catch any sort of attention. Not long after posting it was scooped up by the thread, and you have all been so complimentary after - or at leas most of you - which is totally cool, as like anything else, "sexy" is subjective! I'm absolutely elated that so many people have enjoyed the build. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year, and that 2019 treats you with tremendous amounts of kindness and fun!
  • 2 0
@privateer-wbc: I like the orange bits here and there rather than all black when you can get a custom build. Have a nice day
  • 1 0
@MuskratMatt: An oil slick finish stylus???? Point me in its direction to behold its beauty!
  • 1 0
@enduro29erHack: yeah buddy! We have one of only 2 in existence!
  • 1 2
@MuskratMatt: But even more unbelievable is that this beauty didn't make it on the list!

www.pinkbike.com/photo/16621840
  • 1 0
 @landscapeben: That's 3ds Max
  • 1 2
@RedOctober: But at least it's not last year's winner and it's a worthy contender by design for sure!
  • 1 0
@landscapeben: it's a render, not a real bike. Plus if it was a real bike, promo/company built bikes weren't included as per rules set on the thread for nominations.
  • 2 0
@landscapeben: Its also a rule that last years winner is automatically put into the final selection for voting... along with the above rules stated by @Dav82 which refer to the fact that the "beauty" you are refering to is not only not a real bike but its stock per say and taking on a blank background rather than the mountains of someones garage Smile
  • 2 0
@landscapeben: probably because it's a rendering and doesn't exist yet?
  • 3 1
@radude: weirdos.... dude the poll is an anual thing that closes on new year.... why is that weird, please explain?
  • 2 1
@Scotj009: ok fair enough guys, rules is rules Wink

Sick bikes Year 1 OG Gnarcissist in Unicorn Jizz paint. Wish i could have snagged one of those 10 frames.
  • 2 1
@kingdick: No point in giving the link and no context. That is the company the builds sick bikes. So @FqqTBawL you could probably speak to them and have them build you up a similar frame to the 'Year 1 OG Gnarcissist' Not sure if you would be able to get the paint design though.
  • 1 0
@jawa: I wouldn't go saying they build their bikes as if they do every bike for them, as that is just not true in any way.
  • 2 0
Agreed. Sick bikes for the win
  • 1 0
I was looking for that bike on the list! I really like what they've been doing!
  • 1 0
Yeah I wish the frame I got the frame I paid for 6 months ago too...
  • 11 0
No point in people just suggesting bikes now, some people have had spreadsheets and all sorts to get down to this list. Get involved in the forum in 2019, post and share some sexy hardtails!
  • 14 5
I really like the Glamorous Glennis, not only for the good looks, but mainly because this bike is the result of an intensive and meticulous research.
On the other hand, valuing as “sexy” a bike, reveals a rather troubled & perplexed personal perspective…
  • 1 0
His Pink Bike is nicer tho IMO. Would love to ride one of his bikes.
  • 10 0
For those saying this bike should’ve been in or that bike should’ve been in. No good pics, no nominations, not in the voting. Simple as that. These bikes were nominated by thread followers, not picked.
  • 13 2
I voted for the PVD, only to notice afterwards it's made by peter verdone... (weird geo guy...)
  • 8 2
That's the exact reason why I didn't vote for it.
  • 6 3
@seraph: I would vote for a Walmart bike before his bike just because the guy comes off as a real asshat.

@tgr9 You can change your vote Wink

sort of kidding. he is a craftsman. but question his geo and hell call you an idiot. im sorry, im 5'10 and I dont was a 720mm reach and a 69 degree seat angle

Please learn to read bike geometry.

Warbird is a relaxed fit for a 5'10" rider. A racer of the same size would be on something longer.
  • 2 1
@bigredone: dunno what warrants that personal attack since I took a look at his bikes and they all look amazing. I might prefer a steeper seat angle since it fits my position better.
  • 3 0
@pvd666: just read that whole thing what a tool.

The only thing I agree with: "The problem with everyone having a voice is: most people don't deserve it or shouldn't have it."

Oh, the irony.
  • 4 0
Didn't the 'expert' put a 100mm stem on a Nomad?
  • 3 1
@blackthorne: because he personally attacks everyone else. Sometimes someone needs to have it slung back their way... Literally he has negatively blogged in 3 locations about a certain frame builder that's asking questions. He smears everyone's name. And people let him get away with it because he is good? I'd rather ride a bike with f'd geo than deal with a person with such little regard for others.
  • 2 2
 @bigredone:

Can you be specific about what you're talking about? I don't believe I have a habit of personally attacking people. Stupid ideas and junk science, yes. Not really people.

Who are you btw? Another anonymous?
  • 10 0
Curtis, always. From afar they look great. Up close they look like artwork. Artwork you can abuse for years and years.
  • 6 2
Graymag is the winner for sure. Looks great, detailed build.

The Stanton is nice but it won last year. The previous years bike should not be in the running. Not sure why it always gets added again the following year. It’s about a new year, new build.
  • 2 0
Totally agree the Stanton shouldn’t be there
  • 6 2
I voted for the Glamorous Glennis, not least because the name comes from Chuck Yeager's Bell X-1 rocket plane, the first manned vehicle to exceed the speed of sound in level flight.
  • 7 1
Chromag for me, but the unique Portus Pinion and the BTR were in the running
  • 4 0
If you’ve ever seen one in the flesh, then the Curtis is hands down the most stunning bike. But if you’ve ever ridden one, then the BTR is insane fun and the best bike I’ve tried!!
  • 4 1
Btr ranger as a custom build is sublime, not many manufacturers can offer this service and have the know how. A true radical hardtail. #notmadeinafactory #propergeo actually is long and low!!!!!
  • 5 0
Has to be that Pinion bike! That straight top tube leading right into the seatstay makes it look so clean Drool
  • 6 0
 Stylus all the way.
  • 7 1
 Also, vote Curtis!
  • 6 1
 It's a raw Curtis: www.curtisbikes.co.uk
  • 4 1
Weird combos of parts on some of these bikes. $50 rims and XX1 on one bike and $3,000 wheels with $300 drivetrain on another.
  • 5 0
The enves with misaligned logos and vee tires...
  • 2 0
Aluminum rims can have a better feel over carbon. This can become even more amplified on a hardtail. Dont underestimate decent aluminum hoops such as those from Stans, WTB, or Race Face.
  • 1 0
@JDFF: agree... for me there is no place for carbon hoops on a non-XC HT
  • 7 4
The 2019 Kona 30th year anniversary Honzo is a pretty bitchin' looking steed!
images.konaworld.com/2019/full/honzo_st_se.jpg
  • 1 0
Is that Portus the Krowd Karl (in a custom colour) or a full custom job? Definitely a cool bike (and was high up my short list). I wonder whether my bike go anywhere close to be nominated. Definitely loving it but I'm sure it goes for the owners of all these bikes here too!
  • 1 0
I would vote the Prova which I saw in the spotlights at the bike show in Bristol last year - what an amazing maschine and wicked painting! .... but checking Prova website, turns there is no such 'Rapido' in their line.
What the heck @provabikes ?!?!?!
  • 6 6
Where's the Honzo ST? I know it has been around awhile but the newest version has better lines than most of those bikes. In addition you can run different dropouts to accommodate 142, 148, and single speed all with sliding dropouts. Also fits 29 mid + tires.
  • 2 1
Honzo ST is already in the Hall Of Fame for best shreddy metal hardtails, unbeatable in terms of price looks and compatibility. it can rest easy on its laurels
  • 2 1
It is about someone building a version that is deemed sexy enough to get through to this stage. Clearly no Honzos were deemed good enough this year.
  • 9 6
Why can't we just leave skin wall tyres in the history books where they belong.
  • 8 4
 Never!!!!!
  • 8 3
Because, amazingly, not everyone is as closed up to other options as you seem to be.
  • 1 0
@mgolder: I mean not everything written on the internet is 100% serious. Maybe a wink emoji was required or something.
  • 11 8
That Chromag is perfection...until someone went and ruined it with skinwall tires
  • 4 2
I didn't realize the tan wall was so polarizing =P
  • 4 0
@privateer-wbc: Each to their own, I have personally never been a fan of them but as long as you like them, that's all that matters. You have done an amazing job on the build nonetheless!
  • 2 1
@AD4M: I think they grew on me. I think when I saw them for the first time I wasn't so enthusiastic. Thanks so much for the kind words Smile
  • 4 1
The Prova is the one you vote for; the Chromag is the one you buy. Curtis is runner-up with no-upcharge custom geo.
  • 4 0
 Curtis AM 7...gets my vote.
  • 5 3
All of these bikes are beautiful. For me the BTR is marginally more so than the others.

My second choice after the Curtis. The pencil seatstays are beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

Any recommendations on a 29er made in small with aggressive geometry and not steel? Preferably aluminum.
  • 2 0
I'm not a big fan of small frames and 29er wheels, they look out of proportion, 27.5 would probably be better for shorter riders. The Nukeproof Scout would probably be a good option though and aren't too expensive either.
  • 4 2
 Commencal Meta ht, NS Eccentric.

  • 3 0
Just curious why you would want aluminum over steel?
  • 3 1
Aluminium? What for? I think you completely missed something about steel and its advantages. Dig it Bro` ;-)
  • 1 0
@JDFF: ive had a steel hardtail (on one) before. It rode awesome but was heavy. It was the same weight as my full suspension bike. Im trying to differentiate between my fs bike by just having a lightweight, just grab and go for cardio rides.
  • 2 0
 @t1chan: OK, differents things:
1: On One frames are often out of 4130 chromoly, the heaviest steel after Hiten, and also the less confortable and responsive btw.
2: a bike needs to be a bit heavy if you`re into commited practices, otherwise it won`t be steady at high speeds.
3: Weight is relative, and this is an important point that most people are completely wrong about: do we talk about static weight or about weights in motion?... saying that the most important thing on the bike are the masses in motion. For instance: i used to have a 11,5kg hardtail once, with a bad steel and shitty wheels: that bike was crap.
Now I own a 13,5kg Stanton Switchback in Reynolds 631 + good wheels + good tires. The bike is well balanced, confortable, responsive, nervous, fun, climbs well and relaunch well... without being an XC bike, but I never said I wanted an XC machine :-)
4: What is the rider`s weight? In my bike shop, some clients piss me off with the weight of bikes when they actually weight 80 or 90kg!!!! My bike is probably heavy for them, but I weight 65kg for 1m73!!!
5: Aluminium is lighter than steel, OK, but it`s less confortable not to say extremely rigid. It breaks more easily and sooner than steel, and it is not repairable.

Don`t forget that STEEL IS REAL - but a good steel though ;-)

You`d better look at a Stanton Switch9er for exemple, with a good pair of wheels, etc... then you`ll have a bike Dude.
  • 2 0
@t1chan: many people are completely ok with a hardcore hardtail weighing in as much as a FS bike. Infact, I prefer that. I try and get my bikes to weigh in at about 32 lbs (hardtail and FS). I want them to be about the same, as I ride them in the same locations on the same trails (steep DH, steep tech, steep loam). The ride qualities of good steel tubing are what makes a modern slack hardtail worthy. Not all steel tubes have the same qualities. If weight is really a concern though, it may be that your trail system is more xc oriented? In that case maybe aluminum works or perhaps even a carbon frame? Especially if you are just zipping along on smooth featureless single track? If I didn't ride steel, pretty sure I wouldn't bother with a hardtail. To each their own though!
  • 1 0
@JDFF: i have a transition patrol for more technical trails. This is more for smooth singletrack type trails that i typically ride during the week for cardio. Thats why i am not too worried about having a forgiving steel frame. If it were my only bike, then yes, you and @Franzzz are 100% correct. I would be rockin a nice steel solid geometry bike.
  • 1 0
 @t1chan: fair enough.

As much as I wanted to vote for the Chromag, as they make great products and I am a satisfied customer, nothing is sexier than raw titanium.
  • 1 1
The Curtis is not the best color but surely build quality is better than the Cromag everyone seems to be going for.
My 2 cents, this Devinci.
