Just cause she's a girl? The front flip no-hander was pretty wild, but other than that she didn't exactly do anything that wasn't being done in 2006.....Now, the fact that it is a girl riding a moto like that is out of this world.
@mildsauce91: To be fair the guys aren't doing all that much that wasn't done in 2006 either. First front flips were done almost 10 years ago, and Pastrana landed the first double backflip in 2006. There just isn't the same level of progression in Moto tricks as there is in other sports, and for good reason really.
@sino428: Oh totally. I don't know how they could progress that much more honestly, as you mentioned. Pastrana just completely ate up the sport, and I wouldn't wish it any other way. Such a good dude.
@mildsauce91: Yea its just limited by what it is. There is only so many things you can do with a 300lb dirtbike in the air. I mean you can't really spin it, you can't spin the bars or do tailwhips, etc. Its basically flips and variations of flips. And as we saw when Josh Sheehan did the triple backflip the extra height needed to go beyond the current crop of tricks and start adding more flips is basically just obscene.
They are all rad, Raha is that old school Crusty style that love but the stuff that Josh Hill is doing, particularly when you consider the hard concrete, the raw terrain that isn't manicured, and the fact that he basically tossed his Supercross racing career away doing a backflip and breaking his pelvis yet here he is in his 30s sending it in raw terrain, is particularly impressive. Also, Hill is moving Pro race speed where as lots of the other FMX guys, are definitely not racers.
wow ...seriously. If Raha is participating he is always a contender. Years past he was a walk to win. This year he is still a contender and the concept of "going big" never does that dude justice. Need a new term. That being said, the story is important part as well as the riding. Strong was next level from all angles, film maker, story, riding.. and is my top pick hands down. Golden was my next pick. Story, riding, film/style was terrific. All of them are nutters though. Ooze skill, style and crazy.
Those were all pretty nutty. Colby Raha stood out to me as letting the riding speak for itself, and then seeing Vicki doing those tricks was pretty rad. I've always felt a bit confused that women are the best gymnasts and dancers in the world but that they aren't represented more in freestyle action sports. I would think given their general grace and flexibility, we'd get some way sicker moto or slopestyle tricks out of the ladies than most guys could pull off.
Women aren't really the best gymnasts in the world. They are just the most famous as they get more attention at the Olympics. Watch mens gymnastics and they are basically doing everything the women are doing and more. There is a reason that the men complete in 6 events and the women in 4, with only two overlapping between the two.
@bcoleman3: Yes she is awesome, and in some cases like the floor exercise very close to what men can do, that does not make women the best gymnasts as the original poster suggested. The huge floor move that she does (triple double) that no other women has ever done, has been done by a few mens gymnasts in the past. Biles may be the best womens gymnast ever, as in shes dominant against women, but if we are just comparing overall physical ability mens gymnasts would blow away women overall at the highest levels. And this is pretty standard across almost any sports. The best men's at any sport are better than the best women. I'm not sure of any sports where this is not that case.
Every time I ride mine I get off thinking these things are insane. Most of the time on my mtb I feel like I'm not going to die, the moto requires asking the question frequently to make sure I don't do something crazy. Every time I have huge smile on my face.
@facelessghost: Thanks for compiling this Pinkbike, was going to watch today and you made it in a nice list, appreciate it! @Charlotroy sorry your entire day was inconvenienced by all the radness you didn't have to click or comment on...
I love these real contests and it is interesting how from one sport to the next what the allowable amount of filler is.

Agree, only so much can be done, and it's pretty much been done and limits been pushed to max....
