Video: Christian Rigal's Street Sessions on the New Ripmo AF

Today, we dropped the new Ripmo AF (Aluminum Frame). This bike brings the award-winning performance of the carbon Ripmo to a wider, rowdier audience. It’s everything we love from the carbon Ripmo, plus a few tweaks. Best of all, complete bikes start at only $2,999.

To show you what the bike was capable of, we handed a stock Ripmo AF to BMX Pro Christian Rigal. Instead of hitting the trails, he banged a right out of his garage and went in search of some of San Diego's sickest street spots.

No flat bill hat flying off his head on each landing. Fake news.

 2true!!!
  • 7 1
Is it even street riding if this is not happening?
  • 33 1
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess this is is about to be a 'best seller' AF for Ibis.

Yet more proof: if you want to get skills, or have your kid develop skills, ride BMX.
And, you'll spend more time riding rather than recovering if you wear a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads (so says my trauma surgeon).

Can never figure out why people buy little kids enduro bikes.. aside from being rich...
  • 31 4
@arthom: because they can and their little kids wanna ride enduro and not BMX?
  • 11 2
@arthom: pretty happy I'm doing it. Been putting my daughter on legit bikes and now at 12 she's faster than me ????
  • 7 5
@arthom: lol yeah just saw an ad on FB... dad bought his little girl a new carbon Stumpy, surprise... she didn't like mountain biking, so now he's trying to sell a several thousand dollar flop. Big Grin
  • 9 5
@Justfucnsmash: you are just slow then!
  • 12 1
@arthom: because I like mtn biking and I like riding with my kids. They can ride street or go to the skatepark on their own time or when I'm at work, but we love riding together in the mountains as a family!
  • 4 1
 @mtbikeaddict: What a loser!!
  • 2 0
@arthom: some of those kids have bmx bikes too...
  • 5 2
@arthom: Most kids that ride hard have both, plus variety helps keep them on the bike. Indoor BMX over the winter and skateparks in the summer are easier for Mom to get them too when not on the trail.. Every kid needs a BMX freestyle bike. They are dirt cheap used and never stop. That being said, my 7yro also rides his 145mm 24" 65HTA Enduro bike like a BMX bike no problem...cost about the same as a nice 100mm whip too. Every hip is a whip and the bonus hits for him are freaking endless on the trail (bikes are still little), especially the ones he rides a couple times a week. Its inspiring riding behind little guys on his team and seeing them just have a blast nonstop. The extra travel helps when bigger gaps go wrong and is definitely used if its a kids specific tuned suspension and not just a cheap adult light rider setup. Plus its awesome on the steeper blacks as those little wheels take twice the hits where as mine just roll over. I know 8-10yrs that will gap your car and hit scary lines. Plus there is no suspension bob when they are 60lbs so not nearly the pedal downside of an adult long travel rig (7yro can easily do 1k ft climb). Don't hate on kids bikes man, the kids scene is big time these days especially if you live on the mountain.

@mtbikeaddict: Cool. More power to me.

 @SL13: ay fair point..
  • 1 0
 ..
  • 1 2
@Svinyard: Just get them an eBike then soon too no? It’s kids cant spend those years on a 20 and just enjoy building skills and riding without being wistful for the allure of full suspension, and MTB bro-dom. It’s painfully unnecessary, you literally have your whole life to ride an enduro bike. Can’t argue that mountain the bike industry created a thriving new market for sure..

@arthom: lol ok. The kid does what he wants. He lives for it man. I just support him as it's a blast and outside family time not in front of the screen. We live on like 90miles of sick mtb riding with two kids teams etc. They.love.it. He also does plenty of street riding and skill building on his bmx bike. Especially at our 80k square ft indoor bmx park (its insane). He loves that too. What's your problem with kids mtb? (My kid climbs just fine, ebikes suck for skill dev, dont be a douche).
  • 2 0
@Svinyard: Well I mean from what you would have us believe it wouldn’t really apply to you, but my main problem is with parents just pushing their kids into a skate park or bike park or ski mountain etc. moving to other sports. Without caring if they know what they’re doing or not..
  • 1 0
@arthom: Agreed there. On a recent trip to a bike park... I got stuck behind a group on my favorite freeride trail... A dad on his enduro bike and his two little kids on balance bikes. First the gateway feature was a bottleneck, as the one kid took the go around but the other was too terrified to ride anything. Once they made it through, I waited before riding, then came to an abrupt stop around the next corner... all 3 stopped at the top of the roller. With Dad watching, one kid finally got the nerve and took off towards the jump. I'll probably never forget seeing him shoot past me and disappear over the rise, immediately followed by the *thump* and various drawn out skidding sounds as metal and flesh tumbled down the hardpack... followed closely by a piercing wail. I'm all for family riding etc, and heaven knows I saw some kid a fraction my age ripping the black trails... but I really don't think those particular kids were ready. Learn to pedal, balance, steer, ride on uneven terrain... then the pumptrack? But straight into the FR stuff... my family was there too, but the others split and rode the green trails and skills area. Anyways...

So this is what happens when Jeff Kendall Weed is broken while Ibis launches a new model. I approve. Get well, Jeff!
  • 1 0
What??? Jeff is out of commission?? That's not possible! I've seen that man ride and there is no way he crashes on a bike! I won't believe it. . .

This was rad, Christian kills it!!
  • 17 8
Huge fan of Christian, and his riding Anything that takes the normal douche-bagger out of mtb's and showcases actually skill is a huge step in the right direction.

 Make Alloy Great Again!
  • 7 0
They should have done it on the coil shock...I'm dying to swap my Ripmo for an AF for that reason alone.
  • 6 0
Did you notice that rear shock was not really moving? Full suspension with a locked out air shock that probably over pumped and filled with volume spacers. Still awesome.
  • 4 0
Remember than Ibis handjob cable stay? That was cool AF too.

Love the vid, love the frame....super confused about them marketing their latest frame with a street vid, but love it....
  • 3 0
I had the bottle opener too.

raw aluminum so you have plenty of room for Black Flag stickers.

Wait...what rebellious & destructive band do kids listen to now that would be good to slap on it?

Wait...what? They still go with Black Flag stickers!!?? F*** yeah!!!
  • 12 7
Nice video, but if you are going to bring new metal bike to market then the soundtrack should be some sort of METAL!

  • 7 1
 We want Kirt on Ibis!!!
  • 4 3
He had to work pretty hard to make that big ole 29er work for street, super talented rider, but not the right tool for the job. Given the choice he would gladly ridden a smaller wheeled bike. Seriously, once the koolaide goes bad, I hope folks come to realize that there is such a thing as too much wheel.
  • 2 0
Now we know what it looks like when Pot has been legalized and Ibis has been ordained cool. Only thing missing is this guys will work for Ibis sign and a pit bull. lol.
  • 5 0
 yo that was sick.
  • 2 0
Definitely a different kind of "street riding" being a 160mm 29er! Guess what the vid is communicating is that it'll take some knocks.
  • 4 1
This video put a smile on my face

I'm always stoked when I see edits filmed here. I work at a local Ibis dealer and they came in with the AF about a month ago. I have barely been able to keep my mouth shut about it! Good thing I'm about to put my HD4 up for sale haha

Those skills and bmx tricks on a well rounded enduro 29er... Impossible to think about it some years ago... Willing ri swap my carbon one for this...

  • 1 0
That guy ripped..!! Unbelievable how these kids send it on 29 inch wheels nowadays and make it look good too..
  • 1 0
To say he did all of that on a bike with a derailleur is bloody impressive. Manny gap was nuts!

Guessing the DVO coil spec'd one is a bit more than 3Gs. Dope video! Loved the fast plant 180 over the chain

  • 1 0
So cool full suspension street! dont see so often! Nice!
  • 1 1
Sick riding but frame size used in the video looks a bit small for anything other than street / trials use.
  • 1 0
nice moves, nice edit, nice tune.
  • 1 0
How was he rolling that quickly on 2.5 WT Assegais? Razz
  • 2 0
I did see any fast rolling, kinda seemed like the bike was slow, slow enough to make the tricks harder
  • 1 0
Lots of pedaling, nice tricks, but no flow just big hits?
  • 1 0
 What a confusing video...
  • 3 2
 Street AF

guess nobody showed Christian how to adjust the air or clickers.... CLAP CLAP CLAP THAT THANG
  • 5 1
BMX bikes don't get adjusted. You get on and ride them. And then you ride them some more.

 Oh thought it was niner
