Jet!! She will always have a special place in the hearts of Brits of a certain age!

I was more of a lightening fan myself

I feel somewhat sad at being described as ‘of a certain age’…

Today's elderly are getting pretty sensitive.

Ahhh Jet, the one that got away.

I remember someone proudly writing into MBUK to say they'd worked out they could reorder the stickers on their Met Jetstream to Arsemeat Jet Big Grin

She actually used to ride mountain bikes as well (maybe still does) but I got to go for a ride with her many years ago when she was at a bike shop test weekend /mini bike festival type of thing that was being held in the Surrey Hills. Good times.

I was always more of a Rhino/Hunter kinda guy. For moving furniture and things like that. Big strapping guys. I'd make them cold drinks and just watch them re arrange my lounge. Nothing kinky.

 woops!

@Woody25: Are you referring to the young lady in the sweater dress with the mic speaking to Rob Warner?

If so, I concur, She's "a bit of ol'right!" Smile

Suspension = 3 inches of hideous movement.
  • 17 0
The "long travel" and "downhill" definition back then. But other than the crap suspension, just think about those tires. You wouldn´t fit them to the bike of your worst enemy.

He makes the bike look tiny.

3 inches of hideous movement. Sounds like my lovemaking technique.

They should edit it and get him to commentate on the run, ”and he’s down like a fat woman on a cruise ship”
  • 16 0
"And he hit the deck like an old lady on a cruise ship!"

He is down like a homesick mole!!

I'm 44 now and watching Rob reminds me my first mtb attempts. Was so fun doing first drops on little 14" frame (I'm 6.1" Smile ). But despite this I much prefer my current enduro bike and prepared enduro trails. I just regrate I was born to early Smile .
  • 2 0
I'm over 50 and been mtbing for the last 5 years. I wasn't born to early as I would most likely be dead in a bike park. My 4 year old son is pretty much the only thing that keeps me in check when I drop in a gnarly trail ( at least in my perception of gnarly).
  • 1 0
@crazyfrenchy: Well, I know this pretty well. When I took my older one (14) on dirt jumps,in the first day he was jumping much better than me Smile . Higher, further and with better style Smile . That's age. One day they will find same feeling with our grandsons for sure Big Grin .

Can we get him to do a voice over for this?

Everything was better in the 90s because I was young!

 All hail the egg
  • 6 0
This reminds me of the movie 'Chainspotting' which featured a young Rob Warner shredding mtb and hitting dirt jumps with long hair and no helmet. It was great.

Being from the UK, I remember watching this live!
How times have changed?
I wonder if rob still has the medal and that really tight asparagus suit lol
  • 4 0
I'd imagine he would have been more interested in getting Jet's number...
  • 6 0
So did Rob and Jet swap hair care techniques or what?
  • 7 0
Based on what I’ve heard about Gladiators I doubt it was hair care tips they were swapping.
  • 3 0
@Superburner: 90's and the Gladiators... what where they swapping? Steroids, cocaine, STD's or a combination of the following?
  • 3 0
@Sscottt: Yes, Yes, Probably. Add to that: domestic abuse, blackmail plots and that fact that some of the Gladiators were drunk during filming it’s a wonder it aired so for so long.
  • 3 0
I think they definitely swapped something...
  • 2 0
@Superburner: I that it will be making ANOTHER comeback (in the UK)... This time on the BBC.
  • 6 0
Far too much pedalling needed for Warner to be in contention.
  • 5 0
I remember Rob being on a dating show back then too.
  • 2 0
 That I'd love to see
  • 2 0
I reckon he'd be well up for Naked Attraction

These days, some dh racers are going as fast as highway speeds! Watching them on camera may not seem fast, but they are easily hitting 50mph. Insane!
  • 2 1
Love that one and tonight matthew im going to be rob warner yes i kniw its a diffrent game show as this was you bet but hell we all love a warner moment just look at that hair lol
  • 2 0
Haha, ‘You Bet!’ with Matthew Kelly…remember watching this and being so chuffed I knew who Rob was, and some mountain biking was on tv.
  • 3 0
 Wasn't it Darren Day?
  • 1 0
@jaame: It was in the clip, yeah although I don't remember him presenting it, only Matthew Kelly but obviously he did. Obviously the memories have faded over all those years lol

The Vario with a Spring fork is similar to this one, it was my Dreams DH bike when i was a kid www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1995-vario-no-limit-downhill-prototype.439382
  • 1 0
I believe it was the Marzocchi DH3 that was an air fork, but according to this article it they had a coils spring upgrade and disc brake adapter. dansbikestuff.blogspot.com/2015/12/from-archives-marzocchi-dh3.html. I had this fork back then and the hair.

Knew the chap who did the timing for this. He reckoned Warner exploded quite a few wheels during filming.
  • 1 0
Ha! this is awesome. MTV Sports where they'd show the sport but no context other than "isn't this rad/cool/extreme"? Either way, mtb wouldn't be where it is today without bits like this.
  • 3 0
Cheating with french lines! Rob already knew what's good Smile
  • 1 0
French lines lined with boards no less!
  • 4 1
the difference between 1995 and 2023? style/lack of it....
  • 1 0
That's true... Modern racers have thrown away any style, just to be the fastest down the track.
  • 3 0
Did Rob have combination rim AND disc brakes?
  • 2 0
 I'm wondering the same...
  • 2 0
no, the hope brake wasnt fitted, this is the same bike as the famous JMC ashes picture where he has a Hope disk and wheel but running a Magura up front

There was a guy on FB claiming to be selling this bike but it was likely one of the other 4 team bikes (Titley / Peat / Mortimer)

Those videos were posted on robs Yt page yesterday , That’s a GIANT video from way back , looks like he’s gone full circle…..
  • 1 0
Yes, he's on Giant this year. There is a video clip on his 'gram and you can make out the "ANT" on the head tube, which just so happens to be painted the exact same as a Giant Reign-E...
  • 3 0
I would like to see the "gopro" they used on his forks!!!
  • 1 0
The mass of which kept him from getting the “W”!

That would be SICK. Hey Redbull, make it happen!
  • 1 0
That's the only time I've ever seen Rob pedalling! If Jet had been covering DH races back in the day, he'd have won the lot.
