WTB's New Devo E-Bike Saddle Has a Handle

Apr 20, 2023
by WTB

PRESS RELEASE: WTB

There's no getting around it...e-bikes are heavy. Even light e-bikes are heavy. Every other heavy item has a handle, so why not e-bikes? The Pickup handle on our new Devo saddle provides a simple yet effective place to grab and lift your bike during both transport and on-trail situations. Examples include lifting your bike onto a rack, moving it around the garage, or hoisting it over rocks and logs on unrideable sections of trail. The patent-pending Pickup handle makes life easier when you want it, then disappears beneath you when you don't.

Unnoticeable While Pedaling
While it may look like the hole interferes with where you sit on the saddle, we placed Pickup behind the sit bone contact area to make it completely unnoticeable while pedaling. We’ve confirmed this through hundreds of hours of ride testing and pressure mapping. Pickup provides an easy way to lift, push and transport your e-bike without sacrificing any pedaling comfort in the process.

bigquotesI don’t notice the hole in my saddle until I need it. I thought I’d notice it while pedaling with the saddle dropped a bit but even then it disappears beneath you. That’s coming from somebody with a big ass! Asses may vary. Probably suggested by 9 out of 10 e-bikers.Mark Weir, e-bike aficionado who needs no introduction

Fiber-Infused Fusion Form Base
New Fusion Form base allows us to more precisely fine-tune the amount of fiber infused into the nylon of each specific saddle model to create a flex profile that balances comfort, support and durability to match the intended use of a saddle. E-MTB riders tend to remain seated and spin through technical climbs where a rider on an unassisted bike would likely stand up to pedal. Due to this, we reduced the amount of fiber in the Devo’s Fusion Form base, which improved base flex and damping to make it more forgiving and comfortable while pedaling over rough terrain.

Full-Power, Full-Battery Comfort
The Devo features our Medium level of padding thickness, which eliminates pressure points in the sit bone area while still providing lasting comfort for both quick laps and full-battery adventures. The width outline of the Devo gradually increases through the front half of the saddle before quickly widening out to create the primary area for sit bone support. This allows you to stay seated in a locked-in position and crank hard without the insides of your thighs rubbing on the saddle edges.

The Devo’s wide nose encourages riders to scoot forward to maximize power output and keep the front wheel down on steep, technical climbs. Its short 260mm overall length and rounded tail profile prevents the Devo from snagging your shorts while moving on and off the saddle, while also making it easier to quickly return to a seated position.

photo

One Width. Two Padding Options.
The Devo is available in a Medium (142mm) width, which is designed to best fit riders with sit bones that are 100-130mm apart. Versions of the Devo with cromoly or stainless steel rails feature our HLX padding, while the model with titanium rails features our premier DNA padding. HLX padding is plusher than our DNA padding, which makes it a great option for those who prioritize squishiness rather than weight savings. DNA is our highest performance and lightest weight padding for unbeatable comfort and support on long rides.

Availability
The suggested retail price of the Devo is $95.95 for cromoly rails, $119.95 for stainless steel rails and $142.95 for titanium rails. Devo saddles will be available at WTB retailers around the world in the weeks ahead and are immediately available in North America through WTB.com.

@scary1: It’s the new tool stash spot or maybe a lash point for a tube.

@sngltrkmnd: putting a tool there makes sense but the tube is just plain nuts.

Can dropper posts be pulled up these days?

Only tried it once with a Reverb...avoided doing it again after the rebuild
  • 18 0
AFAIK any dropper using a hydraulic cartridge, which is almost all of them, will not like being pulled up while the seat is lowered. Shouldn't be an issue while the seat is extended though.
  • 4 0
Not many. It's a selling point when its possible because the post uses a mechanical lock instead of a hydraulic one. Spesh command post for instance.
  • 6 0
@inked-up-metalhead: My BikeYoke Revive don't have mechanical lock and can be picked up by seat. If trying hard enough you probably could make it extend a little bit by force, but never happened to me just by bike weigth.
Trick is that it doesn't use IFP.

Works on BikeYoke posts. I do it all the time.

@n734535: damn so superman seatgrabs will ruin dropper posts
  • 2 1
What i'm saying. It's always been a no no to lift your bike by the saddle when it's lowered! I've done it very gently just an inch off the ground to swing the rear over a few inches to lean against a tree or wall many times but i would never do so with force or especially a hike-a -bike using it to climb over down trees or through creek crossings while lowered.
  • 1 0
Maybe they should replace your post once you claim it ruined your $400 dropper

From reading the headline I thought this was for your mates without ebikes to grab a tow
  • 10 0
That is actually the only thing this would be useful for.
  • 4 0
Of course it is,they just don't say it because it's not safe or something.
  • 38 0
“Duuude, why don’t saddles have a handle?”
Perfectly suited for 420.
  • 35 1
Or just grab the back of your saddle and lift the bike as you normally would. I don't think the handle saddle combo is really needed .
  • 3 0
Much easier to grab the frame in front of the seat tube when I'm carrying my 57 pound e bike. I've actually considered putting some type of handle there because I do alot of hike a bike scouting and have to lift it over stuff. But it would look awful and people would ask questions. Grabbing the seat is useless unless you are just wanting to just pick up the back of your bike.
  • 3 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: i seem to remember seeing a paracord grab handle meant for bike packing hike a bike sections.

And yeah, I'm 6ft 1 with gorilla arms, I can't pick my ebike up high enough for anything useful with the seat. I usually just hook a finger or two under the rocker link combined with the nearside grip, or grab the seat tube/post and nearside fork stanchion if its a big lift, means you can tilt it back to get extra height, there's some 4ft tall gates round here (on paths, they have a swing gate next to them you can't get a bike through) and that's pretty much the only way to get any bike over. I still remember my mate trying to lift his 48lb 07 demo 8 over one and ending up with the pedal hooked into his bag strap and being pulled half over the gate by the bike when he dropped it

 We need more Mark Wier.
  • 2 0
Yes, but not necessarily for this product. This product would have deserved a video with a rearwards rodeo rider. Riding the dirts seated rearwards on the saddle of an e-bike. One hand holding the saddle, the other one holding your cowboy hat. That would have attracted proper and positive attention. Now what do we have? Funny comments in the comment section and no one taking this product seriously.

I don't work in marketing but I know I should. I'd teach y'all some proper buying habits.

Came here to say the same...
  • 12 0
i mean, even my waistline has handles so...i guess it is pretty fitting?
  • 8 1
Never knew dropper seatposts were also designed do deal with the loads of picking up your bike. The Fizik Freak had a handle too though that one was to comfortably hold your saddle for extended Superman seatgrabs (where a regular saddle nose would be uncomfortable if you're flying for a while like a proper Superman (or SuperGrover). This was from when dropper posts were less common though.

I wonder whether anyone still rides that saddle (for a long term review). I'm still riding the Fizik Zeak from that same era. But that's an "all mountain" saddle (which gives you an idea of the era we're talking about. The nose wasn't necessarily designed for picking up the bike, more for pushing the saddle sideways with your legs.

Least it leaves an interesting pattern on my taint from all the mud and slop fired up on my behind!

You could open a very large bottle with that saddle.

it is easier to haul up the hill back to the car !

I thought the whole point of e-bikes was so lazy people didn’t have to push their bikes
  • 7 0
Bikes that pedal themselves, and handles for walking when you get tired of the bike pedaling itself! Brilliant!

I have the best idea to go with this saddle!
Tool Strap Back Brace!
Safely take your ridiculously heavy e-bike on and off of your tailgate with confidence by employing the tool strap back brace. Just velcro it around your lower back, heave your 50 lb digital behemoth off your truck and do a few back cracking stretches. Unvelcro the strap and populate the Tool Strap Back Brace pockets with a mini-tool, tube, pump, gels, spare battery, solar charger, stator, rotor and AN/PSN-13 GPS Receiver. Wrap it around your absurdly large downtube and off you go. Ready for everything and anything, plus lower back safety.

I hereby release all IP described above as open and free to use without risk of copyright infringement.

I can see it would work for making friends... I mean, I'd grab it if an ebiker with one was passing me!
  • 9 3
I actually think this is super handy. I'd put it on a real bike.
  • 5 0
Shouldn’t this be a non-ebike saddle? I thought with e-bikes there was no such thing as hike a bike.

I'm confused now. So now they have a reamer/plugger that allows you to plug both your tire as well as the hole in your saddle? Sounds like the reamer will do more harm than good to your tire.
  • 4 1
Is this a problem people actually have? I've never had a problem grabbing the back of any of my regular saddles to push, lift or carry my bike.
  • 5 2
Ahhh.........you haven't even tried one. Such a simpleton. I can tell you with certainty, once I installed this not only did my riding get better, but now my lower back doesn't ache and my girlfriend states I even stand up more straight. Oh and my fingers no longer cramp. Seriously, get one you wont regret it. 5 stars fo sho.

 1. You have an awful username.

2. Is this sincere or sarcasm? Honestly cannot tell.

3. If it is sincere, did you mean to reply to me? I didn't question the saddles comfort, just that a handle hole seems unnecessary because it is. Your brief review doesn't mention the handle at all, which is the entire selling point of this specific saddle. I'm glad you think it is comfortable, I've owned many WTB saddles and most were fantastic, but this is adding a handle to something that already fits into your hand like a handle.

 @tpfenning: It's sarcasm, my apologies.

Amazing innovation, now they can make the E bikes heavier. I hope soon they come up with a handle for the handle bars and the top tube of the frame
