Video: Myles Rockwell Takes His Beer Cooler for a Shred

Aug 21, 2019
by James Smurthwaite

Check out former downhill World Champion, Myles Rockwell, taking 24 of his best Buds to the trails in Boulder, Colorado, for this promotional video. The RovR Rollr has 9" tyres and a 15-gallon capacity, which is apparently enough for 40 cans, 10lbs of ice and 4-6 bottles of spirits, which all adds up to a real party on the trails. Of course, we in no way condone drinking while riding but it is cool to see how much of a beating one of these coolers can take, although you'll probably have to open the cans very carefully after the shaking they get.

The cooler costs $369.00 with the bike attachment an extra $54.00. More info here.

I thought Myles preferred a different type of bud for relaxation. Surprised there wasn't a business opportunity there...

@scottlink: and a beer cooler is? Lol.

 @nouseforaname: a $400 cooler is pretty notable.

Ever notice how almost all of the expensive cooler companies are named after animals (real or fictitious)? Yeti, Orca, Pelican, Grizzly, Bison, OtterBox, Kong...I should start a cooler company and name it Narwhal Cooler because I can put a spike on it...because nobody else has a spike on their coolers...seriously though, does anybody actually buy a $400 cooler?
  • 2 1
 Never pay retail. Ever

I bought one without the animal name. Until you are 4 days into a trip, open up the cooler and grab an ice cold beer, you might not get it. Using a high end cooler on bike trips has saved me time and money on food and drinks.

bought a pelican over a year ago and haven't regretted it for a minute. Like @Bksports1 said, when you're 4 days into a trip and your beers are still ice cold, you'll get it. Not to mention that any food you have leftover after a long weekend goes straight back into the fridge at home instead of getting tossed in the trash because its soaked with meat water.

Oh, and lifetime warranty.

@erikvehmeyer: 4days in the desert? seriously doubt it, if its not with active cooling compressor etc running on bateries and solar power...
  • 1 0
@matzx: It's possible, but you need to know what you are doing. Get the whole cooler down to temperature first (if it fits in your deep freeze at home, put it in there for a day before you need it.) Make sure everything that is going inside is as cold as possible. Then pack every available space with really cold ice (fresh from that same deep-freeze vs. a kinda-cold bag from the grocery store.) Keep the cooler out of the direct sun as much as possible.

10 days later, you still have ice. No active cooling required.

Hilarious but as a product guy I have to ask WHY? Who for? is there a "real" market for this?
I love beer and riding and it doesn't appeal to me... I have many better things to spend $450 on. just saying!

It's awesome for cruising down to the concert series in the park with all the picnic stuff. This video shows how easy it is to bring the party!

If you ever do have a beer or soda can that is really shaken up, squeeze it nearly as hard as you can for at least 30 seconds before opening it. This will force the gas back into the liquid and it won't fizz all over the place when you open it.

this right here, is so you can tow a cooler, behind your bike
  • 1 0
Actually, my BOB Ibex trailer can hold a pretty large cooler /ice chest, and not shake the beers up too much.
I think its' big yellow dry bag, with a bit of mylar- type insulation, could also be mostly filled with ice and many beers,. and towed to the most remote point on your trail, where you can setup under a shade tree and do a bit of free-enterprise on a hot day.

I ride with Myles a handful of times a year, I think he could still drop me down or up with this cooler attached on our local trails.... it's hard to fathom how fast that dude can ride bike

Man PB losers just can't stop whining about prices no matter what the article is about. If you can't afford anything you're reading about, maybe get of PB for a little bit and work on your career. Or if you're just young and starting your career.. maybe don't be so damn self-centered that you think the world is built for you. These coolers are made for 30-40 year old outdoorsy people who love camping/biking/etc on the weekends, but work all week and make good money so $450 is really not much.

Well you certainly put me in my place. I better buy two after you bitched me so hard.

Hate to be that guy: sexond click and go to their site you'll see a video showing a bear trying to unlock the cooler; animal of yourself aside along with ant concrete jungle and Plato's cave is the best way to test a cooler giving it to a caged animals as lollipop only to take it away again a correct test? Call me the PETA police but give a toddler a locked fridge to knaw through after their baby teeth have left and it's only a cruel mockery of boths own pursuit of unlocking a sealed jar of goodness, bubbly or otherwise. This comment was deleted, not like i can do that with my account, but buy a trailer- with suspension then go on craigslist getcherself a nice cooler and with the savings you will have a mutlipurpose, bigger trailer and leftover savings for beer. Keeping beer cold so easy a caveman could do it wrestling a bear in a snowbank. *hold my beer* 'bout to go kick gas butt. Also pinkbike dont delete my comment when the site they have doesn't have any. Furthermore dont delete my comment when people reply to it. Cool and all i may not be the most literate aboot Canadian laws on informing others of business practices nor Canadian laws on on net neutrality and enunciating thoughts on a platonic cave, however none of these nor to my knowledge any reponse to those of which hereby expressed are in any way endangering, yet the own practice of keeping bears in cages to throw dinosaur fat too may possibly be more andangerin then using bike tubes and rope to bear hang the craigslist cooler to keep beers cold and away from bears. Simple and easy to keep a weight 10 ft roughly 2.5 meters off the ground with a good rope and carabiner and really do we drive larger and larger vehicles over a bridge until they fail? Or de we simply know how the largest vehicles all at once could weigh and make sure a bridge could withatand all of them? I for one will tell you the former sounds like an A-hats waste of time and the second seems like simple good planning. Moral is don't be out in the woods with bears and leave your possessions about you didn't get to the woods leaving everythinf to be taken from you don't let the bears rob you. If thats too much for you: stay out of the woods. Rule number one: Obey rule number one, Rule number 2 refer to rule number 1, rule number 3 don't blow up the spot.

Your comment wasn't deleted. It was downvoted by a number of people. This makes the post hidden from view.

I'd guess it was down voted because it didn't (and still doesn't) make any sense whatsoever.

@Mfro: what are you talking about? It's the comment of the year if not the GCOAT... Smile

Quality advice: Get a suspension trailer and a second-hand cooler, hang that cooler up out of reach of a bear.

I sense a real down-trail business opportunity. On a really hot day, I bet you could auction those beers off, one by one.

one would get dysentery from drinking that beer
  • 10 0
@cuban-b: most of the Oregon trail pioneers died from dysentery simply from NOT drinking beer but instead the water. Ergo: Beer saves lives

@autechre: Fully aware he was DH WC 20 seasons ago. But when someone introduces themselves as "world champion" anything, they sound like a tool. I'm betting multiple champs like, Rachel Atherton, Greg Minnar, Steve Peat and co don't say, "Hello, I'm Rachel Atherton, DH world champion."
He may have been trying to sound like a tool for the ad, I don't know. But he succeeded either way.
  • 5 1
@JiminOz: Who pissed in your WeetBix? Rockwell was World champ - last time I checked he can use the title when endorsing a product. It was a pisstake if you didn't notice.
