Video: Brakeless Bike Trials in the Czech Republic

My name is Vašek Kolář, I'm riding bike trials for over twenty years and I am a nine-time World Champion in bike trials. Every year at the beginning or end of the season I shoot a video, because the schedule is usually open and there are no major competitions. Two years back it was my pallet project "One Shot - The Pallets". Last year I did some bike shows in Abu Dhabi, so I used the free time between shows to shoot a street trial video all by myself, which you can find on my YouTube channel.

This year I wanted to shoot a video on my new 24" inch street trial bike, and to do it brakeless. Riding trials without brakes is very difficult, maybe even unimaginable for some, but when you know where to land and can react and control the bike the right way, then it is possible and the riding has more flow because there is no braking.

Before flying to Spain for a training camp this spring, I decided to visit my friends in České Budějovice, as they have plenty of experience with shooting videos and riding bikes as well. We were shooting for three days straight and all went according to plan, except for the last clip with the wooden spool which took me about three hours to complete cleanly. The whole video is shot in České Budějovice and it was created by my friends from ER Crew, namely Benjamin Jícha who did most of the shooting and editing. Big thank you also goes to Jan Bílý for additional filming and also to Dominik Puffer, Jan Hála and Filip Rýc for help during the shoot. I have many interesting ideas for the upcoming season, stay tuned!!

I can't even begin to get my head around how that's possible... to control movement and track to static so precisely without braking or a foot dab! I get how you can land with precision, but you also need to control your momentum, so it's not just in the balance, this is some kind of bike magic Geek

9 time World Champion. That's for me 100 more impressive then even this awesome movie.

Exactly. And he doesn't look very old either.

Nicely done.. But nothing new about it.. there is one guy who killed it riding trial brakeless and he really deserve to get some attention, i swear.. make sure you watch him! "Flipp" from the UK, there is nothing like this!! Flipp on Vimeo: vimeo.com/user8094401

Awesome riding and vid. If the tribute to Matt Hoffman Pro BMX PS2 sound track was intentional, well f$@kin done! I rate it as the best game ever made to date. PS4 is soooo disappointing, with not one BMX game, an terrible moto offerings

Man, I lived for that game! Everytime I roll around on a BMX I hear the passenger on loop. In fact I just setup an emulator the other day just to relive it!

 Chainless next year.

This is almost a modern day masterpiece of art and culture. What historic masters did with paintbrushes, pianos, engineering, knives and bows (and other martial arts), etc. this man does with a bicycle and his mastery of it. Just need a higher level production of it, at least as high as Road bike party.

Pretty impressive. At least he's wearing a helmet. I dunno, not a fan of disabling things, like, "let's make our wheels square"......."or fill our frame with lead"..............."uh how about we don't................."

Lived life brakeless at times... wasn't a long term solution but here a good reminder there are moments you need to send it!

Wow; just wow. Utterly bonkers amount of skill and commitment on display right there.

Bet ya he doesn't give fu.k what his seat angle is. Insane skill that he needs and has.

That's pretty amazing. The stress on the chain must be crazy though, I would be very nervous about snaps

Fantastic video but Akrigg's brakeless video is maybe the best trials segment ever made.

Holy hell! Get him a redbull lid. This is talent.

Normally, trials is pretty gay. But that was unbelievable. Cheers

yeah!!nice video , but I would not consider this a bike trial video. Most of the tricks are street bmx videos on a bike trial. Smooth as butter and nice style to be honest. GOOD JOB!!

I counted only 2 scenes where a street rider could have done the same thing. Everything else required a bunch of trials experience.

Isn't brake less trials more or less just kind of like BMX riding...??
  • 6 0
Ähmm. NO!? Yes.. it's a kind of streetriding and you'll see a lot of things trialsriders do on street a good bmx-rider can. But the most bits are technical trial-skills. Combine the best and mixed up to #nextlevelstreetriding ;-) !
Watch 2-3 vids from the link i posted before, than come back and say something else ;-) !

@NiklasRausch: come on! Don't make another backcountry :/. It has a name. It's called street trials. Period. D
