Vecnum Launches 212mm Dropper Post

We've seen prototype dropper seatposts as long as 220mm, but we think the 212mm Nivo dropper released today by Vecnum could be the longest one currently available on the market.

Vecnum are a German brand that manufacture their dropper posts in house at their Friesenhofen factory. Paul Aston picked their move LOC 200mm post for his EU made Nicolai, but they've trumped even that with this longer post today.

Different O-ring colour choices that don't seal anything, but help you match up your ride with black or grey, or RockShox red, Maxxis yellow and Fox orange

Designed to work with shorter seat tubes, or just very long legs, the 212mm is at the extreme end of a range that also includes 182 mm, 152 mm and 122 mm versions of the post. The post can either be ordered as Travelfit, with 4mm drop intervals, or Indexed, with four preset points. The Travelfit version allows you to externally adjust the travel up to 32mm to tailor the extension to your maximum ride height, so there really should be an option for everyone. There's also a low stack height of 42mm across every post, so you can use as much of the available travel as possible.

Travelfit allows you to adjust the post's travel up to 32mm.

This is the first Vecnum dropper to feature internal routing and the German brand have developed the patent pending Shutloc mechanical indexing mechanism to ensure that the reliability stays high. Vecnum also claims this is a little bit lighter than the old moveLoc, hitting the scales at 395 grams.

The full press release is below.

Press Release: Vecnum

Internal routing Like it or hate it, but it’s the state-of-the art for several years now, and you rarely see a bike rolling around other than with the cables in the down-tube. However, so far none of our previous thoughts and designs with internal routing convinced us in terms of weight and reliability in the same way our moveLOC did and still does. Now, after more than many prototypes, we are able to offer a design with which we are more than happy. An internally routed post naturally needs an internal locking system. With our patent-pending Shutloc mechanism we achieved a maximum of reliability and long-term consistent performance. No matter how much or where you ride, or if you’re on the heavier side of the body-mass-spectrum, the NIVO will keep you seated just right.

More Drop With up to 212 mm of travel, the NIVO accounts for the shorter seat-tubes of modern bikes, or just for longer legs and more technical riding styles in general. If this sounds too much for you: The NIVO is also available with up to 182 mm, 152 mm and 122 mm of travel. A low stack height of 42 mm takes care that you can use as much travel as possible.

Travelfit You can order all four lengths of the NIVO as Travelfit or as Indexed version, depending on your liking. With Travelfit, the NIVO can be dropped in 4 mm increments, quasi infinitely adjustable. Moreover, Travelfit allows you to adjust your posts maximum travel by up to 32 mm without taking it apart! You want exactly 196 mm of ravel? No problem: Get the NIVO 212 Travelfit and reduce the posts travel with just an allen key. You won’t even need to remove the post from the bike.

Indexed Personally, we like indexed dropper posts. Once you get used to consistently find the middle position, ideal for technical climbing or up-and-down-pedaling, you’ll miss it when it’s gone. That’s why we decided to offer the NIVO as an Indexed version as well. Four predefined saddle-heights add consistency to your riding experience. Attention: With the NIVO Indexed it is not possible to adjust the posts travel! You need to decide in advance which length will fit to you and your riding style.

Your bike, your style The NIVO comes with a bunch of differently colored o-rings. They are not really there to seal anything, they just look cool. By swapping o-rings you can adjust the style of your post to match your bike. O-rings come in black or grey, or Rock-Shox-red, Maxxis-yellow and even Fox-orange. Your choice!

Light-weight and solid If you already know us, you also know that we’re big fans of bomb-proof, solid, well-engineered solutions. By carefully designing every little detail of the post, we can proudly say that the NIVO is equally reliable and even a touch lighter than our moveLOC. Despite being so light, the moveLOC survived all of our accelerated stress-tests without any problems. Therefore, we could set a high maximum rider weight of 120 kg. The NIVO comes either with our universal remote, or with our left-side trigLOC thumb-lever.

Easy to service Like with our moveLOC we took special care to make the NIVO as easy to service as possible. Just unthread the upper ring (the one with the o-rings) to refresh the grease.

Production and availability Typical for Vecnum, the NIVO is completely designed, machined and assembled in southern germany. By combining design and manufacture under one roof, we can guarantee highest quality standards. Also, we’ve been quite busy during the winter: NIVO is already in stock, und waiting for you to get one.

Being a taller ride I love the idea but are these any use for most modern frames with interrupted seat tubes? can you insert them far enough down the tube to get them out of the way for the downs? its one of the reasons i'm sticking with my Knolly Delirium with its straight seat tube.
  • 7 0
Also a tall rider here. My XL transition smuggler has an insertion depth of just 245mm, according to their website. My current 170mm Reverb sits out of the frame almost 70mm to get my saddle height to where I want. I can put it deeper into the frame, but then I can't get the saddle up high enough. When my saddle is dropped, it's not as low as I want. So I could def use a longer dropper. Right now the only thing that is longer is a 185mm drop BikeYoke and a 200mm 9point8. An extra 15mm isn't worth the price of the Bike Yoke, and unfortunately the 9point8 is too long and can't be inserted deep enough. Which means I couldn't run the actual 200mm, and it would still stick out of my frame 55mm. This Vecnum...sounds rad with 212mm of drop plus I can customize exactly how high it goes. BUT...the insertion length of this Vecnum is 317mm. Which means 72mm would be sticking out of my frame. Which is almost exactly what I have out of my frame right now with my reverb. Unless a company comes around and makes a 200mm+ dropper with a short insertion length, I think tall folks are out of luck.
  • 4 1
Also I didn't realize the currency conversion. $650 canadian before taxes, shipping, duty, etc. And before lever. Adds up to the most expensive post on the market, I think?
  • 4 0
@gbeaks33: I've got a 200 mm 9Point8 on my Bird Aeris ... sooooo good. If anything, I'm finding I want a touch more drop! If a 225 mm dropper was available, I'd be all over it. (The Bird is pretty sweet, its got a straight seat tube from the BB on up).

I tried to buy a Vecnum before, but they weren't selling in NA then. I hope they start selling them domestically!
  • 5 0
@aireeek: Dude i'm so jealous of 200mm drop. I've wanted to ditch this terrible Reverb forever so I never have to bleed the damn thing again...but can't justify the extra cash for the same amount of drop.
  • 2 0
@gbeaks33: i have the Bike Yoke 185, its awesome, it sits almost all the way down to the collar and the extension is perfect for pedal stroke. i was looking at Slayers and Spartans etc but they all have interrupted seat tubes and I don't want to have to deal with moving the seat post up and down all the time again.
  • 3 0
@gbeaks33: Revive is worth the $$$. Apart from how well it works the BikeYoke crew are exceptional. I lost the clamp bolt from the remote, Saki responded personally to my email asking about the thread and dimensions so I could buy a replacement and asked the local (New Zealand) distributor to send me a new one.
  • 1 1
@PhillipJ: yeah totally heard good things. But it's only 15mm more drop than my Reverb. If it were a 200mm version, I would have bought it long ago. I'd still have to run it ~55mm out of my frame to get it to the height that I am comfortable pedaling, and then still won't be able to drop it any lower.
  • 4 0
@gbeaks33: so when your reverb inevitably breaks, you should replace it with a bike yoke revive. It’s the only post I’ll run.
  • 3 0
@gbeaks33: this is European pricing. It includes sales tax of 19%. That will be subtracted usually if you buy from outside EU. And they do worldwide free shipping. So expensive yes, but less than you think.
  • 1 0
@gbeaks33: The Reverb AXS says "Hello other droppers! I can barely see you from way over here!"
  • 2 0
@Unrealityshow: yeah that'd be my replacement choice for sure. And yes, my reverb will 100% break this season. And every season. Probably multiple times per season. What a shitbag post.
  • 8 3
Realy shims? Voids the warranty on many frames, whether it should or shouldn't is debatable, but I know I wouldn't drop big money on a new post that needed shims for a 31.6 when there are plenty of others that don't.
  • 3 1
As it does not make any difference for the frame when you use a well proportioned shim I would just not mention that in case ;-)
  • 8 0
What's frame does a shim void your warrenty on?
I have never had a problem shimming seatpost and honestly prefer to do it as I would rather have a smaller post that fits on more bikes.
  • 1 0
If you don't like shims, get a BikeYoke Revive instead. Suuuper smooth action, and they have long options
  • 7 0
All PB dropper-post posts should include height and trajectory data for a full 12oz beer can launch.
  • 1 0
Specialized Command post I think wins, the velocity that post comes up can make my bike bounce. Plus beer launch is substantially more than Fox and Reverbs, from personal experience.
  • 7 1
 That's a shame, I was really hoping for a 213mm dropper post....
  • 3 0
571mm... No go for my frame/inseam length, but if the total post length got shorter (by a lot) I’d have room above the seat collar.
  • 5 3

I wonder if the weight limit is dependent on seat tube angle? Surely this would affect the bending & binding motions?
  • 1 0
Not that much at typical bicycle seat tube angles.
  • 1 0
Triggered so hard at the price of these things. Doesn't it seem like in the 1990's they would have been $150 CAD dollars max? Instead of $652 CAD......................

Does anyone know who is working on 220mm posts? The longer the better...damn trend of short seat tubes is horrible for tall people.

I'm 6'1 and i ride a 150mm dropper. I never wanted a longer drop, why would anyone? Things are getting silly. Well, maybe that could be an option for Shaqu's 36" Bike...
  • 1 1
Try the mega avalanche. Low as possible is the he best option for something like that.
  • 1 0
@Serpentras: up on the glacier is actually the only place missed more travel before. Funny i'm not the only one on here to notice. But i won't buy another post just for the few minutes you can actually ride in the slush ice style of snow Smile
  • 1 0
@Muckal: yeah true, I still would grab more travel if I must buy a new dropper if it fit my frame ofc. Just for whatever reason I can go low as possible even if I never will use it.
But the frame I am looking for has a really small seattube so I can only dream about it haha.
  • 1 0
If you haven't already also try the Mountain of Hell, also lots of fun and actually rideable snow. And it's just the weekend before the mega.
  • 1 0
@Muckal: hehehe I know but never could make it, all people I ask seems like they have to much fear. Other just don't think they can made a long descent like that in one go.
I really want to go but not this year.

 @getsomesy:

I wasn't sure either, but the enduro-mtb.com review says:

"The NIVO allows for a generous saddle adjustment and has a light setback of 7 mm. If you ride with the saddle pushed all the way forward, you can turn the lower rail around to get more support."
