We go back to 2001 with this freeride classic that's perfect for self-isolation. Watch as Wade Simmons, Thomas Vanderham, Andrew Shandro, Jordie Lunn, and others help shape freeride as we know it. Ride To The Hills from 2001 is an all-out metal driven freeride assault. It features all the early Canadian freeriders ripping it up on what have now become the standard locations from The Shore to Virgin, Utah. You will get a glimpse of the short-lived urban freeride trend and a lot of XC helmets. There are plenty of big Southern Utah hucks as well.

 YES!!! Thank you Mike. Everything about this movie is amazing. I still own two copies on VHS, one is still shrink wrapped.

"Ride To The Hills" and Jorli Ricker's previous film "Shift" were the epitome of mountain biking both then and now.

You should post "Shift" also if at all possible. Wade's section to the cover of Rocket Man riding an original Pipeline is pure epicness.

 ...ever! Absolutely right. Seen so often and always inspired to go riding. The young Vanderham on the Giant ATX One DH...epic!!!

 If you look at what these boys were doing on janky late 90s bikes (even look at Pulp Traction much earlier) back then its so impressive. Puts into perspective whether we need an extra 13mm reach and 0.5° off the HA to justify a new bike (as the media would make us believe) or just get on with it*, commit and skill up.

 @snl1200: No less than 2 broken cranks in that segment and one of the best cover songs ever.

 That powerwheelie at ca. 2:14 got me into biking. I saw that as a 13 year old kid, and figured "I want to do exactly this". 6 years later I was bumming in Whistler for a season, and still go riding as much as I can.

And it was such a fantastic movie in general.

 Can't count the number of times I watched this as a kid, and watching it again now I can see where my riding influences came from. I still try to hop/manual everything I can from watching Ryan Leech's segment, I still try to throw tabletops off every jump because Wade made it look so good.

 A classic! This movie is responsible for a LOT of employee purchases at the shop I worked at back then. At one point there just about every bike in the catalog could be seen hanging from a hook in our staff parking area. My RM7, shop mgr's RM6, my Reaper, a Pipeline, Instincts, a few Oxygens, a few Blizzards... etc.

 That 2000 Whistler Joyride Bikercross jump was epic. 60 feet lip to landing during racing. Qualified #1 in pro, finished 6th, a few weeks after graduating high school — quite a party w/my friends and the most fun I’ve had on a bike!

 Great watch and fascinating to see how freeride/slopestyle have progressed since then, especially when you compare to trials (except for fashion choices, Ryan Leech's segment wouldn't be out of place today)

 I LOVE OLD SCHOOL MTB. It makes me wanna jump and go riding. Now when I see bikes vids I feel like watching a Nolan movie, shit is so unreal I can't even relate to it.
