 Canada, you're one stunning country.

That's how heaven is imagined. Simply beautiful.

The full screen photo's just work so well too

Its this x1000. Its a large province and has a lot to offer. Pinkbike, this is the best article I have ever seen on here. I loved the panning images and how they were full screen width. Well done.
  • 15 1
Yes Revelstoke is amazing. I wish they would give credit to the trails ridden though.

The Cabin is on the Keystone Standard Basin trail...which is an out n back in alpine terrain. roughly 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. Spending the night at the cabin would be fun but not necessary to do the ride.

Maybe a few other shots from the Frisby ridge and Martha Creek trails too.

A great trip report on the Kootenay range can also be found here:

Another great resource for BC/Alberta riding here:

Canada needs to stop rubbing it in our faces. That goes for you too Wayne Parsons. I'll say it again though, I'm going to make a pilgrimage up that way next summer. I am just kidding when I say stop the in face rubbing action. Don't stop, I'm so close I can taste it. I'm sorry and not sorry about how that sounded.

This site has trails with photos and videos of 1000s of trails in BC www.trailforks.com/region/british-columbia
I hate you BC

outsmith, no worries. When there is snow on the ground and I can't ride, I dream about being in the south western US. You've got some gems down there too.
  • 3 0
can't decide if vanderham's office views are better than hunter's office views

Very smart to get out of Whistler during Crankworx... absolute gongshow.
  • 7 1
@outsmith - I see you're in Spokane. From your way you could work Rossland - New Denver - Revelstoke. Then cross over the Divide and work Golden - Invermere- Fernie and then back.

Since Spokane is a medium - sized airport many other US visitors could also do the same thing. There's lots of resources about Revelstoke area riding on Pinkbike also - do a search and they'll pop up.

Thanks leelau, it looks like you have my itinerary all planned out for me. When would be a good time for such a trip? July? Would I be able to do any kind of camping at these locations?
Wayne I think snow blows, Unless your are into that kind of thing. I don't like being cold but I love the mountains. I need to get over it and take up some kind of winter sport, like curling!

And can anyone tell me how to do that @ thing when responding to someone? Pretty please?
  • 7 0
@outsmith all I did was type in @ and the PB javascript autofilled in your name (probably pulled from the thread). Works on desktop but not mobile. July can be still snowy in the alpine. Matt and Andrew likely didn't do variations which put you into the deep alpine from this ride. These variations are hike-a-bike to Keystone Peak or mixed hike a bike and ride along Standard Ridge both of which put you into views of the heart of the Selkirk Range. So it's best to check snow levels to ensure you can avoid snow cover.

The horseflies can be bad if you do it in August. This trip looks late enough in the year that this was avoided. Personally I like the trip in mid September. If you google you can see TR's written by myself on other websites for people who will ride with or car-drop you out and back variations in New Denver also. For Revy contact www.wanderingwheels.ca - it will cut your farting around with car drops time substantially. Here I'll throw in another @WanderingWheels

@whatyousaid thanks for the links and info! definitely added to the bucket list
  • 2 0
@outsmith and @leelau the flies were non existent this year in late August on Frisbee Ridge. And if you're coming this way I would suggest also trying out some of the bike parks on the way if you have time or want to. Some good riding to be had.
  • 2 0
@leelau BAM! Now I can do that troll thing people are always talking about! Thanks for the knowledge.
  • 1 0
Yeah I totally forgot to mention that @Frederick3. Silver Star for example isn't far. You can actually get to that pretty quickly by taking the super cool Fauquier ferry (free over to Vernon). It's got some pretty nice trails around the Vernon area and a really nice looking alpine trail with view potential - consistent with the alpine riding flavour if that's what you want.

Kicking Horse is more DH Oriented but I haven't ridden there so someone else will have to speak to that. Same with Fernie - no personal experience with their park

Surely someone is cashing in on multi day guided MTB tours in BC, include food, a MTB instructor, a guarantee of an amazing trip and a cold beer at the end of day 1 and i think you'd be pretty busy during the summer. Only problem is you can only ride these trails a few months a year i guess. If anyone is doing this, i have my MTB quals, cert IV in Outdoor Rec and WFA. I want to work with you!
  • 1 0
You bet there is. Johnny Smoke (MTB legend) running Bush Pilot Biking Tours out of the okanagen. I've heard nothing but amazing stories. I'd love to take one sometime.

@hoolydooly That's my job and it's the best job in the world!
  • 3 0
Wanderingwheels you're a turd, and my hero. I'm too poor to hire you though, I'm afraid.
  • 1 0
Do you do any 3+ day epic trips? or is it just 1 and two day adventures that you offer?
  • 3 0
@hoolydooly Next summer we will be offering a range of all inclusive bike trips from 3-10 days in length. Ride hard, stay at our lodge, eat great food, and repeat everyday! Most trips will be for strong all-mountain/enduro type riders, one for purely XC, one for DH, and one will be for novice to intermediate riders and will have instructional segments along with lots of sweet rides and an alpine ride! All trips are guaranteed Epic! Have a look at this little teaser slideshow I put together for our trips: www.pinkbike.com/video/389731 All of the info will be up on our website soon. I am also hoping to create a front page blog for Pinkbike in the coming weeks. Cheers.

Would love to see a more detailed breakdown of the kit that was carried on a trip like this. I live in North Wales and do overnight rides year round. Just wondering if there was anything essential I'm missing! Love the new format too.

I can't say a styrofoam cup would be at the top of my list, but that's just me...
  • 2 0
This looks awesome and I'd love to plan a trip like this but assuming the water and shelter are already covered, how do you get a sleeping bag, food, jacket and whatever else would be needed (TP, fire, utensils?) into a bag on your back with all of the other stuff? I think the answer is helicopters.
  • 2 1
I carry a lightweight sleeping bag and a gore-tex bivvy. it's normally freezing but I can get everything into my 20L evoc pack. it's taken me ages to get rid of the stuff that you don't really need!
  • 2 2
@JenMcp and @bvd453 - see answers downthread. Also see the recent article posted about biking the entire Continental Trail on PB about even more aggressive ways to bike-pack. No need for a helicopter

POD's density on this, one just blew out onto my computer the joys of adding a comma and a word.
  • 5 2
He meant: "The density of PODs on this one just blew out my computer." Adding a comma where you did makes it completely nonsensical. Also you could do with some speech marks and a colon to make your point more clearly.

It appears that Matt Hunter makes a living by sticking Dakine and Clif stickers everywhere, and then doing whatever the heck he wants. I've got to get in on that!
  • 2 0
He's also a stand-up kind of guy who not only rides phenomenally well, but is a great rep for the companies who sponsor him. I'm not particularly motivated to purchase said products, but if the sponsorships keep him riding and filming, then I'll continue to eat up dakine of specialized pictures and film in which he's featured. Of course I'd trek to the edge of the clif to watch Shandro ride too... Another fine human being who can ride the tires off a bike regardless of the size of the wheels.

Yet again Sterl shows me how to take a picture. This is the PB frontpage writeup of the trail in question if anyone wants more detail www.pinkbike.com/news/revelstoke-riding-keystone-standard-alpine-dreaming-part-1-2014.html

@JemMcP here is a checklist for some ideas for self-supported bikepacking. You can pare the list down substantially since on this one you can camp at a cabin so can skip a lot of the wet weather or cold weather gear . Was also on frontpage www.pinkbike.com/u/leelau/blog/Self-supported-Bikepacking-a-sample-packing-list.html

Damn. That just made me want to quit my job, grab my bike and get straight on a plane.......
  • 7 0
You know you have an awesome life when you gotta run away from Whistler, haha
  • 5 0
You beat me to it. I was sort of amused at the beginning of the video when it appeared they were so fatigued of the Whistler crowds and routine that they needed to "get out of town" as though Whistler were downtown Detroit. I guess routine is routine. Great video and amazing photos.
  • 7 0
That's the kind of content I long for more than anything else. More, more, MORE!!!!
  • 3 0
Yeah... that looks a very boring thing to with some very boring landscapes and places along side!!! I prefer my run to the office every day in every week in every month and so on... Razz

Envy and jealous is something hiting me hard right now... And for sure a lot of other people that just put their eyes on this photo epic!

Dam thoose photos!!! A lot of PODs here!!!

This is an epic work.
  • 3 0
Man, I wish I had the luxury to travel all over. So many places to go so little money. Matt Hunter is an INCREDIBLE rider who gets paid to do what he loves to do and he doesn't even compete! I want his LIFE!.....and skills haha
  • 3 1
You're all invited to come visit next summer and ride some of the best trails in the world right here in Revelstoke BC! Seriously the best place on earth! Here's some more Revy eye candy for ya: www.pinkbike.com/video/389731

The rest of my family have lived in BC for the last 10 years. When I see stuff like this I wonder wtf I was thinking when I decided to stay in Scotland!!
I mean don't get me wrong we have plenty of nice mountains and scenery here too, but nothing even close to BC!
I'm going over for a week of riding next summer, something tells me I'll be back every summer Smile

Yep, Keystone is a pretty amazing trail. For those wondering, it's an hour drive north of Revelstoke, then 11K to the cabin, 11K back to the car, and back down the road for a dip in the lake.

Crazy good video! wishing I could go ride right now. I always wonder about these full day or multi day rides, do you pack like 9 litres of water or trust every stream you come across?

You know you get when someone gets their bike frames for free when you seen them draping their bike over the tailgate of their truck.
  • 1 0
 Why is that?
  • 1 0
Because if I had to shell out the money for a carbon frame, I wouldn't risk any damage to the downtube that might come from hanging it over a tailgate.
  • 1 0
So many props to the photographer(s), Anthill and Pinkbike for putting this feature together. Yeah the riders were cool too. Love me some Canadian wilderness!

Go tubeless, already. Strange to see people so deep in the sport not running tubeless setups. Beautiful trip and photos, btw.
  • 3 0
How do you know that's not a tube being stuck in there to repair a torn sidewall, or otherwise unfixable tire trouble?! And I'm all the people involved in this trip know what's up with tires. sheesh.
  • 1 0
The tube in the photo has what sure looks like drying rubber cement on it which implies a thorn or snake-type puncture to a tube. Maybe this is a thorn to a tube after a torn side wall. Could be.
