Last Summer was definitely one of the best summers I've ever had. I was a guide at Bear Back Biking in Whistler, BC. Living in Whistler seems like living at Disney land. It's got a lot of everything. I wondered if I would ever get tired of this place.
Without any doubt, there are plenty of trails to keep you occupied for a whole season. There's not just the all around famous Whistler Bikepark but also dozens of quality XC trails. A lot of trails also means a lot of maintenance. I was impressed about how many volunteers, who weren't scared to get their hands dirty, showed up at one of the WORCA trail days.
There wasn't much rain all summer which turned everything into a dust bowl. Dust combined with evening sunlight provided some pretty cool scenes mid summer.
What are guides doing on a few days off work? They ride bikes - who would've thought. For a change, we made a trip down to the Sunshine Coast. We expected a lot of good riding and the coast didn't disappoint.
According to the old saying "It's all shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits" I broke my ribs just a few days before Crankworx. A lot of friends came over from Europe that week while I wasn't anywhere near riding bikes. At least there were plenty of things to shoot photos of.
Canadian Open with it's well known Heckle Fest was the last and probably the most interesting one to shoot. Just a few hours after racing, the whole town seemed to return to normality.
Now, after a summer in Whistler and a couple of months back home, i'm already looking forward to go back.
I'm not tired of Whistler yet...
Thanks to Bear Back Biking, Scott Sports, Fox Factory, Gravity Components, Continental, Swagman Racks and all the people who made it such an all time summer.
Cheers
Joel
