Spank Riders are on a Roll

No dust has settled since CWX Les Gets, but the mud seems to have started subsiding at least! After a week of incredible rain and muddy conditions playing havoc with event rescheduling of pretty much every event, Team SPANK and friends are still washing off the mud from bikes, gear and even laptop keyboards! As we all set our eyes on the next events, it’s worth taking a pause and celebrating the total clean-up on podium results for the team this week.


In a total of 5 Crankworx Main Events events, SPANK Riders earned and incredible four 1st positions with SPANK Pro Bernardo Cruz kicking the winning streak off in the Official European Whip Off Championships presented by SPANK.

Fellow SPANK Aviator Louis Reboul joined Cruz on the podium with his 3rd position. The absolutely driven and focussed Reboul jumped back on his bike for the Dual Speed and Style securing another 3rd, but suffered a crash in the slippery, fast PumpTrack challenge on Friday preventing him from vying for a result.


Local French SPANK rider Chaney Guennet carried the podium baton over into the Pumptrack Challenge with a 1st position in the Men’s category, with German local SPANK rider Laura Brethauer finishing 2nd in the Women’s event.


The cancelled Slopestyle event saw riders, organisers and sponsors pulling it together in grand style to offer the hungry spectators a Best Trick event. SPANK Aviators Thomas Genon, Anthony Messere and Nicholi Rogatkin were fast favourites from the outset. While Messere undoubtedly recorded the greatest amplitude of the contest, Genon’s 360 Table was also nothing short of insane! In the end it was Nicholi Rogatkin’s Twister that clinched yet another podium 1st for the SPANK team.


Spank’s DH Pro Racing Teams Polygon UR and Commencal Riding Addiction topped a massively successful Crankworx event off by claiming yet another two podiums. Tracey Hannah claimed a 3rd position in the Women’s Pro Elite category despite taking a fall, while Remi Thirion slicked through the peanut butter and Nutella textured course to stand proud, and remarkably clean in 1st position on the Pro Elite Men’s podium.


While 8 podium positions were claimed by SPANK riders, the SPANK Team at large made their presence felt in many ways at the event. SPANK Rider Pierre-Eduoard Ferry could be found building jumps and lines in the mud in the run-up to the event, and constantly handling course maintenance around the clock in the challenging Les Gets conditions.

SPANK Pro Brett Tippie did a stellar job, as usual, of keeping not only the spectators but also the riders motivated, informed and entertained over the course of 5 days of non-stop event rescheduling and format changes, while SPANK Aviator Tomas Zejda provided around the clock support and encouragement with his welcome presence despite not being able to compete due to a shoulder injury.
