The City of Brotherly Love is America's 5th most populous and one where much of its youth have an enormous amount of obstacles to deal with on a daily basis. One thing that always helps to make the world, and certainly Philadelphia a better place is the bicycle. Through Pinkbike's Share the Ride program, we were able to facilitate an event in which 15 children were able to get properly set up with some great bikes from Fuji and SE, helmets from Kali Protectives and locks from ABUS! All of this was done via the generosity of the Pinkbike community and your shared desire to show kids how great the world can be when experienced on two wheels. The already vibrant cycling community of Philadelphia just welcomed a group of 7-12 year old kids and their families into the fold. With the Philly Pumptrack nearby, the Schuykill River Trail and a growing number of singletrack trails within the city limits, these kids are not only getting the opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle, but also the chance to see the many ways in which bikes can be enjoyed.
My friend Micah and I are excited to have these bikes because we can ride them real fast, anytime and anywhere. Even when it starts to get dark because we have these cool little flashlights! - Michael Dukes, Share the Ride recipient
We've been living in Philadelphia for the last 14 years and this bike means a lot to my son. It's his freedom. His first bike was stolen, so this means so much to him. Thank you Pinkbike so much! - Justine Epps, Share the Ride mom
Kind Snacks is really excited to be a part of the Philly Share the Ride today. It's an amazing and kind act to get these 15 kids all set with bikes. It's something that is going to stick with them for lifetime. They can ride, be healthy and really enjoy the world on their bikes. - Dana Mensah, Kind Snacks
I'm Kahlima's mom and we've lived in Philadelphia our entire lives. We came out to this event because Kahlima was chosen to receive one of the bikes and for our family that's a good thing. We try to be a healthy family and we want to ride bikes as a family. Her getting a bike is very good and it really helps us out, so I'm very appreciative for this event and Pinkbike. - Felicia Lawrence, Share the Ride mom
This event means a lot to us at Fuji and SE. We love to give back to the community. It's important for us to show some support with our gifts and love of bikes to the rest of the community. It's great to really be able to help out these kids during the holidays. - Juliet Jacobs, Fuji/SE Bikes
I'm just here at this event today because I'm excited to help put bikes in the lives of more kids. Today is really going to be a great day. - Carolyn Mulally, Volunteer and World Cup mom
