 Definitely - would love to go create something, but I'm yet to locate/get permission for any woodland in Kent where I can legally dig.

 @djm35 at the risk of getting a shitstorm of negative props, you're right I work for the FC the problem is that builders create lines and jumps to match their skill level, unfortunately the less skilled come along, fall off, get injured then sue the landowner, who is liable not the builder. And even if the landowner successfully defends their case it still costs lots of money better spent elsewhere. So if people want to build get in touch with local landowner and plan it together, or join in with dig days.

 gandalfsdad do you know if bike parks on FC controlled land need ridiculous amounts of public liability insurance, or can they get out of compensation claims by having lots of signs everywhere?

 @gandalfsdad can we have our trails back? Only kidding chaps. A lot of peeps in the UK will have had 'correspondence' with the FC and found them to be quite reasonable and I'd like to say first that we have a good relationship with the FC in my area despite not always seeing eye to eye. My advice if you're going to build where maybe you shouldn't then don't spend days building a perfect wooden booter that looks like an alpine lodge, just cut in a trail (even by just riding it) linking as many natural features as you can. Restrict 'building' to clearing the trail and packing in natural landings. It's not always that easy but that's one good way to do it and natural trails are always best anyway.

 Bike parks if constructed by or with the support of the FC are fine, adequate signs are part of explaining what riders can expect when entering the trail or bike park. The problems arise when individuals build their own trails or jumps etc. At our place like others we have Red, Blue and green graded trails which gives riders an understanding what to expect. We also have many more miles of ungraded 'Off-piste' stuff, we don't manage it there's mikes of it making impractical to do so, lots of people like riding it and accept the risk that as its unmanaged natural trail, if they fall off they out it down to experience. Recently though someone built a shonky jump using logs and dug a pit next to the trail in order to cover the logs with earth. If someone who regularly rides those trails and does so in the dark and has an accident because of these alterations, he could argue the landowner should have known the the trail had been altered and could (and it has happen in the past) look for damages.

 @ThomDawson I cant speak for other areas, but if riders get organised set up a club or something and approach the FC particularly concerning woodland that has a history of trail activity, with a plan on how it could be managed the FC might be interested in moving forward. It depends on other issues such as other users etc. But if its a woodland that requires the local office to go traipsing miles just to knock down a bit of board walk made with a couple of pallets or even a door (I shit you not), you might find a new ally.

 Thanks @gandalfsdad, we may try and do something like that going forward but right now we have a good status quo. Within our own small area we have a fairly decent idea of what we can and cannot do. We've spoken with the FC on numerous occasions over the last two decades I suppose and like I say we have a respectful relationship. We're only a small group. By the way I notice you're based at sherwood pines? Can you tell me how to get to the dirt jump area without riding around the trail? I don't know the area that well but I've ridden the jumps on my trail bike a few times, I'd like to get in there on the DJ bike but obviously it's not really the right tool for riding the trail, especially not at the moment!

 @ThomDawson the easiest way from the car park is follow the Blue route to posts 10 to 11, otherwise you're following fire roads, or head to the main offices through the car park, past the farm on your right and stay on that fire road for about a mile and a half. The Blue is hard going at the moment, motorbikes have been in and trashed it, its rideable but its not fun especially on a DJ bike.

 Cheers that's what I needed! Yeah the blue is the way I'd normally go but I was there a few weeks back and it was wet even back then! Definitely not ideal on a DJ bike. Thanks again @gandalfsdad.

 People need to stop being bitches and accept if you fall off your bike and hurt yourself, it's your own goddam fault.

 gandalfsdad, I know some of the riders from a group that has set up the bike park at Ribbesford and even though they got all the correct permission and built everything themselves and put up graded trail signs, they recently had their double black run flattened as it was deemed too extreme.

 The people who pointlessly dig out gap jumps to make them dangerous should be shot (and banned in case they come back from the dead)

 @djm35 maybe it was outside of the plans they submitted/agreed to. Perhaps if they graded it as a freeride area, they sit outside of red or black, with differnt signs like a traffic light, orange background with a white circle starting with one, then increasing upto three to show difficulty, if theyre in the trail create a 'b' line and have them as optional lines. Obviously, I don't know the details but it probably would've helped, or at least saved them a load have hassle if they'd checked first.

 I build my own jump trails, and have a great time doing so. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to ride theirs!
