The first run for the
Triple Crown of Slopestyle culminates in Whistler this weekend with the last slopestyle event of the FMB Diamond Series season,
Red Bull Joyride.
All eyes will be on Brett Rheeder this Saturday, August 15 as the Canadian athlete takes the opportunity to challenge the Crankworx Triple Crown of Slopestyle and clinch an early FMB World Championship when the FMB Diamond Series lands in North America. Rheeder has already won the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle and the Les 2 Alpes Slopestyle. With this event, he has the opportunity to make a clean sweep of the
Crankworx World Tour, a first in freeride mountain biking history.
Brandon Semenuk (CAN), Thomas Genon (BEL) and Nicholi Rogatkin (USA) are among the top riders standing in Rheeder’s way to glory. Competing at this event can be an athlete’s career highlight. Winning it makes you a legend. And with the Crankworx Triple Crown of Slopestyle on the line, the event also holds the promise of a $75,000 (CAN) grand prize.
Among the elite ring, the man to beat has always been Semenuk, who has already won this event three times and is no stranger to performing under pressure. But also breathing down Rheeder’s neck, Genon who won Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler back in 2012, has his eye on repeating his Joyride title. Just 500pts shy of Rheeder’s top spot in the FMB standings, Genon will certainly be turning up the pressure, and sitting in third place, 858pts behind, Rogatkin will power out for the challenge. The American rider from Boston knows that this final slopestyle contest is his best chance to stay in the hunt for the FMB World Championship. A win at a FMB Diamond Series contest is worth 1,000pts, so all top three athletes are still in contention for the overall title. With Rheeder’s impeccable riding, there is no room for mistakes.
