Trail: Dirt Merchant, Whistler Mountain Bike Park | Rider: Kyle Dunne

To close out 2023, we've narrowed down the top 10 rated mountain bike trails around the globe. These trails have been reviewed by the Trailforks community, representing the heart-pounding descents, addictive airtime and technical ascents that keep us coming back for more. As we ease off the brakes and coast to the end of this epic countdown, it's crucial to recognize that the rankings you're about to feast your eyes on are a culmination of the collective experiences shared by riders. The Trailforks community thrives on the stoke shared by riders like you, so the more you rip down these trails, log your rides, and share your thoughts into the digital wilderness through the Trailforks app, the richer and more accurate these rankings become. Alright, time to grab that protein bar and cruise through 'em!

10. Illegal, Trail Park Klínovec, Karlovy Vary

Our global tour kicks off across the pond in the Czech Republic to a trail so good, it should be 'Illegal'. This isn't your run-of-the-mill park trail—it's raw, wild, and slightly rebellious. Consider it an untamed adventure; it's not officially maintained, adding an element of unpredictability and a genuine rugged feel to the ride. This track isn't for the faint-hearted, but if you're up for it, be sure to 'Czech' this trail out when you're in the area.

"This is one of the best trails I have ever ridden." - Einfach

9. Big Chook, Blue Tier Forest Reserve, Weldborough, TAS
Venturing into the Southern Hemisphere, our ninth-ranked trail leads us to Tasmania, Australia. Part of the Blue Tier Forest Reserve trails network, Big Chook is a popular blue singletrack trail in the region, and for good reason!

"A fantastic flowy descent, continuing on from a similar descent on Blue Tier." - thetownbicycle

8. Yeah Gnar, Mākara Peak, Wellington

Next up we head further south to Wellington, New Zealand. Yeah Gnar is known as one of the toughest trails around the Wellington area, and was built to test the limits. It links a range of challenging features one after the other as it makes its way down the valley. It's always a good idea to scope out beforehand to figure out entry and exit speeds, lines and options, and don't forget if you're not feeling up to it... it's okay to say 'yeah gnar', not today!

"Such a great trail! Thanks for that! Scared the sh*t out of me!" - longliveenduro

7. Salmon Run, Fernhill Trails, Queenstown

Nestled in the stunning landscapes of Queenstown, Salmon Run at Fernhill Trails is popular for both its unreal beauty and diverse terrain. This trail provides a perfect blend of flowy sections for the speed demons and technical segments to test your skills and patience.

"Top 10....top 5..maybe....in the world!? It doesn't get much better than this!" - punkture

6. Te Poaka, Whakarewarewa Forest, Rotorua

Tucked away in the Whakarewarewa Forest, Rotorua boasts trails that are the holy grail for mountain bikers. The trail name Te Poaka, translates to "the pig" due to the discovery of pig tusks while being built by Empire of Dirt, funded by the Rotorua Lakes Council. This trail is suitable for beginners and provides all the fun for experienced riders too.

"Best trail in the forest, suitable for beginners and still huge fun for experienced riders, makes it worth climbing back up and doing it a few times." - Beemerdude

5. Boundary Line, Frederick Watershed, Frederick, MD

Deeply situated within Frederick Watershed, the Boundary Line trail is a hidden MTB haven that cranks up the thrill factor while immersing riders in nature. Picture riding through lush forests, manoeuvring tight corners, and navigating janky terrain.

"Starts off slow and then blasts down with nice berms and jumps all the way down - awesome trail!" - foco1515

4. Dirt Merchant, Whistler Mountain Bike Park, Whistler, BC

Yes the Whistler Bike Park may be closed, and the snow season is soon to take hold in Whistler...right? But it's never too early to be Dirt Merchant dreamin'! Locals will argue that the most popular lap in the Whistler Bike Park is Dirt Merchant --> Dirt Merchant Pro Line --> Aline Zone 3, where your wheels will spend more time in the air than on the ground.

3. Boneshaker, Velo MSM Lac-Sainte-Marie, QC

Tucked away in the heart of Lac-Sainte-Marie, Quebec, Boneshaker appeals to both seasoned riders seeking a challenge and those looking to test their skills. For those craving an off-the-grid MTB adventure that pushes boundaries while showcasing the unspoiled beauty of Quebec's backwoods, this one's for you.

"One of the nicest trail on the east side of North America! A rowdy yet very well designed double black trail that will get your adrenaline flowing…" - pierre22

2. Black Bear, Kingdom Trails, East Burke, VT

Named after the elusive black bear, this trail evokes a sense of wildness and adventure, offering riders the opportunity to immerse themselves in the lush forests and diverse terrain of the Northeast Kingdom. The climb up to this trail may be a challenge for some, the grind is undeniably worth the reward that awaits.

"Insane flow. You're constantly floating the bike up or down, left or right." - thesquid

1. Captain Kangaroo, Merry Creek, Castlegar BC

This is your captain speaking.
Ranked as the undisputed champ of 2023, Captain Kangaroo isn't just a trail - it's a rite of passage. Its flawless flow and ridiculously smooth sections make it a trail masterpiece that showcases jaw-dropping alpine views along the way - that is, if you can even tear your eyes away from the trail.

"This trail is definitely one of the top 5 trails off all time for me. If your natural riding style is to double up everything you see, this will have you giggling. It goes soooo good i cant believe its not butter." - KiwiClint

It's important to acknowledge that while this ranking system is founded on user feedback, it remains subjective and reflective of personal preferences and experiences. This ranking aims to provide a general overview of the trails highly regarded by the Trailforks community. The more you log your rides to Trailforks the more accurate this data becomes, so make sure you record your rides in the Trailforks app, and don't forget to rate/review your favourite trails!

Not a single trail from the “mountain bike capital of the world”?! For shame!
  • 30 10
Yeah there’s not even any Walmarts in half of these places.

Plus the EXACT SAME item costs 25% more in Canadian Walmarts than US Walmarts for some reason!!

I mean, a dollars a dollar right!?!?

What a rip off!!

Bentonville has so many USA Walmarts and so much better trails than any listed here……

Frederick, MD is the new king

I find it interesting, that there are no trails on the West Coast or Midwest. All are East Coast, BC or overseas. Would like to ride one of these trails. Especially NZ. But not Downevillle.
  • 15 2
@omegalung: most trails in California aren’t on Trailforks, most of the us population lives on the east coast
  • 6 0
@VtVolk: Until several trails are closed in Spring for some chupacabra that's supposedly holed up there.
  • 2 0
@FaahkEet: yeah. at least this time there is a compromise in place. Let's see if the city keeps their word.

 @VtVolk: always has been

@omegalung: bc is kinda west coast.

 What about dirt merchant

Bentonville isn’t the capital of jack shit
  • 5 0
@VtVolk: that place is f*cking rad, but you definitely do NOT go there for the f*cking flow trails. LOL

East Coast Jank on point!
  • 6 0
@omegalung: BC is pretty west coast
  • 1 0
@Mtbdialed: 100%, dented my frame there from all the loose rock and destroyed a wheel… if you love chunk it’s a special place!
  • 2 0
@iduckett I have never heard so many disgusting noises from rocks smashing into carbon in all my life. Damn miracle I came out with an intact frame and cranks. LOL
  • 14 2
@norcalbike: It just might be the capital of corporate greed. Exploiting third world labor, selling overpriced junk to first world fools, then posing as community friendly good guys by using a tiny percentage of their blood money profit building trails. Yes, it's the capital of Wally World. Ahhh, "The High Cost of Low Price" was a great documentary.
  • 4 1
I thought the same when I didn't see Glentress there. The most popular mountain bike location in the world.
  • 3 1
 YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I hated Bent0nville
  • 5 2
What do you consider the capital ? I only ask because I live there...Crested Butte

Congratulations to all the sick trails that intentionally didnt make the list. Well played.
  • 8 3
 Yeh, Colorado sucks! Zero fun.
  • 9 6
Unfortunately a lot of sick, but unsanctioned trails are still accessible via trailforks, Strava, and other apps. It's a shame they are all ok with taking subscription money to popularize these spots which will lead to closures of some pretty amazing trails.
  • 14 4
@racecase: haha.. Colorado has great views, and a lot of trails. Great trails, not so much! Not saying they are not fun, but dont compare to these trails here.
  • 4 6

@mcfadden999: read the comment again if you dont understand... I said the views are great, and there is lots of miles of trails, however, that doesn't mean they are good trails. Most are 2 way, and hiker allowed.... as well as horses. Thats what I'm complaining about. But stay here, make sure my houses all increase in value so i can retire sooner!
  • 1 4
@rzicc: say 99.99% of trails in the world allow hikers, even the shore and Whistler (outside the park) do. Ore chute is a pretty sweet directional trail, San Juans are nice and steep, gj has plenty directional. Where do you think is better?
  • 3 0
@racecase: This! Don't come here, no good trails to be found
  • 2 0
@Bdraugelis: Are they? Because locally we have some let´s say "admin" who is checking for illegal trails to be wiped off the app to avoid this
  • 2 2
@mcfadden999: unlike most people who want to put there trails of blast so they are busier, I wont say. But given your comment of Ore and the San Juans, it wouldn't matter anyway. Enjoy the FR.
  • 1 0
@rzicc: Utah is where its at.... Everyone check out Utah
  • 1 0
@rzicc: San Juans are on the fr?

@willyjaybob: once again, good views, not good trails. ... holy hell
  • 1 0
 @rzicc: define a “good” trail
  • 2 0
@mcfadden999: exactly that, a trail with purpose built features weather that is flow or tech. Think Capt Ahab, as I'm sure you have ridden that. What CO does is build "paths", think anything else here in the front range. We dont do maintenance, we allow people and bikes to climb the same trail which is so stupid. Even MM is worthless. a bunch of random "jumps" not placed in any sort of order or fashion. If we were to develop trails correctly, they would mostly drain and wear in correctly. Still would need some love, but not get blown out like they are now. Think bike parks... Keystone, WP are awesome.
  • 1 0
@rzicc: well it’s not the shore
  • 1 0
@mcfadden999: yeah, thats my point! Why is it so hard to do here? And the shore isnt the only place where that happens.
  • 1 0
@rzicc: think nowhere in the us can do that but co is cool
  • 1 0
@mcfadden999:what makes CO so cool? curious from a different perspective than what I already have.
  • 1 0
@rzicc: its got great diversity from high desert to high alpine
  • 3 0
Colorado: crowded, overpriced, overhyped. The views and variety of terrain are top, but the crowds and uniformly tourist trap vibe of the whole state is a big distraction.
  • 1 0
@rzicc: c’mon man. What’s wrong with Dr Park?
  • 1 0
@pmhobson: great trail, but 6 miles of fun, out of 20 total miles, and everyone and their mother is out there...
  • 2 0
@Bdraugelis: It's on the users to report if a trail is unsanctioned, how is Pinkbike supposed to know? They don't send a guy on a bike with a 360 degree camera like Google Street View and poll the municipalities to ensure everything is on the up & up
  • 1 0
@bok-CZ: This is absolutely an issue. Can you please provide me with some more information on who to contact to have these trails removed from the app?
  • 1 0
@shift9ears: Just pointing out a flaw in a user generated app such as this. Everyone wants to be a tour guide and show off everything whether it's appropriate or not.
  • 41 3
I wonder how much much Captain Kangaroo paid to win this. Obviously more than Mr Green Jeans.
  • 3 2
It should be Grandiflorum across the river.
  • 5 0
Captain Kangaroo passed away years ago.
  • 2 1
No idea...but it's deserved. Although Goose Creek is also worthy
  • 2 0
@liveslowdiewhenever: Grandiflorium will become much more popular now that there’s a climb trail up to the top.
  • 2 0
@liveslowdiewhenever: I don't get out there often enough from Rossland, but I'd take Awakener over Grandiflorum, even though I'm nowhere good enough to hit some of those wooden structures.
  • 1 0
@leelau: im a big fan of Snow Mexican but also loved Captain Kangaroo.
  • 36 5
Some are greats spots, that said you still just can't trust TrailForks for anything.
  • 10 3
definitely. any system recommending te poaka as the best trail in Roto is pretty f*cked
  • 1 0
 Not even navigation?
  • 9 0
@coney: it's a brilliant trail for what it's designed for . It's not necessarily my cup of tea but it's great to ride with my kids and people not that experienced.
  • 8 1
@coney: It's not the app, it's the users
  • 2 0
@vandall: which ends up being the same thing, as it’s the same users rating difficulty and conditions on these trails, and if all of that tends to be off, what would you use the app for?
  • 2 0
@vandall: I meant the system as in the users using the app…as in, the way users interact with the app is a system producing shitty recommendations.

@moonsaballoon yeah I understand that, and agreed; I’m glad it exists. But it highlights why aggregated Trailforks trail ratings are meaningless at face value. If I visited Roto and solely used those ratings to create my route, I’d be missing a LOT of “better” trails; at least those I consider better anyway. Local recommendations will always beat crowdsourced digital aggregations in my opinion.

Every single one of these trails are 1,000's of times better than anything near Bellingham Washington. Couple that with the fact that Bellingham has 29% unemployment and the highest taxes of any municipality. It rains 362 days a year, leading to incurable depression and 92% of the population has some strain or 2 of an STD as well as horrible gingivitis.
Worst place to visit or choose to live. Just a warning PSA from a miserable Hamster.

Black Bear is a national treasure. The climb SUCKS but no trip to KT is complete without a white knuckle full pull on Black Bear.
  • 14 0
Every time someone on PB complains about flow trails, I think about how I feel after a top to bottom run on Black Bear
  • 4 0
Love me some Black Bear! Especially the top third. But the climb isn't all that bad. Would you have it steeper and shorter or shallower and longer? It's doable on a single speed as is.
  • 1 0
@VtVolk: the lower half of Black Bear sure doesn't feel like a flow trail to me, but you guys in VT are mountain goats
  • 2 0
Ngl, I kinda like the climb.
  • 2 0
I'm not familiar with kingdom but how does black bear compare to sideshow Bob at killington?
  • 2 0
@querent: I just wish it was a little smoother. The gradient isn't terrible, there are a lot of small rocks and ruts that suck after spending all day using smoother climbing trails in town (or Victory Road)
  • 2 0
@Sscottt: Smoother and a little more tech with option lines and tabletops.
  • 2 0
@Sscottt: Sideshow Bob is much easier than Black Bear in terms of technicality. Sideshow Bob probably has a higher average speed and longer jumps.

Upper Black Bear is the "flow trail" part of Black Bear and its jumps, tables, and switchbacks are much tighter than Sideshow Bob - think of Upper Black Bear as a downhill pump track. Both the upper and lower Black Bear sections are much tighter than Sideshow Bob - I think the lower section is handmade vs machine made. This means it is more like a tech trail in terms of regular rocks, stumps, roots, and sizes of jumps, but it is very much not a pedaling trail.
  • 4 0
My favorite route is, after the climb, Upper Black Bear down to the haul rd, then back up to hit Upper BB again.

I usually go from Black Bear to Stormin Normin after that. Such a sick trail system over there.

We do a 2 car shuttle that starts at the Burke campground too. Leave a car at the East Haven lot. Start from the campground, Ride down Roly Grail, head over to Trillium, up to Magill Fields, Down Butter Tubbs to Shonter Shuffle (Awesome Trail too!) Besaw up to the Pavilion then do the Black Bear ride I suggested above. Finish at the EH lot, ice cold beers at Dirt Church brewery. Ah, love the KT trail system.
  • 1 0
If you you go up Haul Road, yes, the climb to the top of Black Bear sucks but you can get there from town in a much more gradual and enjoyable way. So much fun to be head up at Kingdom Trails. As I get older, I enjoy flow more and more...
  • 10 1
Hm, I wish you'd use bayesian ranking. These are trails that have ONLY 5 stars. What's better a trail that got 50 votes only one of which is 4 stars, or a trail that got 15 votes with only 5 stars (such as the #10 on this list)?
  • 3 1
Actually that's one of my feature requests for Trailforks. When I'm checking out a new area, it would be great if you used bayesian averages, so that when I sort trails by ratings I don't have to go through pages of "5-star" trails that only have one vote.
  • 1 0
I actually came here to ask how these rankings are calculated. Thanks for clarifying. Not sure there's a lot of value in rankings that don't consider the total number of votes.

 Canadians are so spoiled.

Love DM2A-L even though I case most of it and haven’t ridden it in years. Calling it a “trail” when it’s highly engineered, machine-built, and costs $ to access would seem to set it (and others) apart from a plain old bike trail. More like an east coast toll freeway.
  • 5 0
I've been a few places, Salmon Run in Queenstown is definitely a standout. Not just the trail itself, but the cool adventure it takes just to access it when riding from the Bike Park. The first time I did it was by myself after the bike park had closed, no idea where I was, no phone, no one around.... just winged it. Holy shit! The trail is proper wild and creative, the v@gina tree etc. I won't lie, I walked a few bits too. Some crazy exposure, stunning views and then rolls finishes back in Wynyard where you can just roll into town for a beer. Truly disneyland for bikes!

Boundary is so sick, but it's just one of miles of great jerky flow trails at Fredrick. IMBA has to step and help save the shed. The push trails and a few others getting closed there is pure shame. RIP Reanimator. If you get get to watershed in Frederick, do it.
  • 5 0
Was pretty surprised to see that make the list. Fun trail no doubt but not even close to top 10 in the world haha. That said yes the shed is a good time and at least a few there I'd put ahead of Boundary Line. Especially if you like jank.
  • 1 0
would you say it's worth a 3.5 hr drive from central Jersey? I was shocked to see something so highly rated somewhat in the area.
  • 2 0
@jbdiguido: I would drive 3+ hours from Pittsburgh for a weekend at the Shed. Worth imo. The town is pretty nice to check out after too for dinner and drinks.

My Son and I did Captain Kangaroo a couple years ago . The climb to the top from the very bottom is also epic , We had so much fun coming down he uses the trail picture of the Captain as his ID picture and actually so do I . Definitely a destination trail and there's enough other trails in the area to keep you entertained for a few days including epic 7summits maybe an hour away.

Lots of work being done in the koots as of late with new trails springing up everywhere. Rialto, Morning Mountain, Salmo and Kokenee creek to just name a few. Camp at Syringa and be at the center of it all!

Just seeing Frederick on this list made me not trust anything reported... I literally left MD because of the lack of challenging MTB trails/ elevation (reason for lack of proper gnarly trails...). This really just shows densely populated zones that have trails/ most heavily trafficked trails.

Klinovec "Illegal" - only because there is no other lift assisted trail of this kind that is so well known 150kms around.
Great bikepark line though. Flowy fast and technical.

This highlights how silly such a rating system is.

There are the stages from enduro series, also pretty good, Plesivec is also great if you prefer more natural trails

I’m sure these trails are great but I’m surprised to see nothing from CA here.

1. Demo Soquel Flow trail
2. Downieville - Tower to Town has some amazing riding
3. Mt. Hough
4. Mills Peak
5. Tahoe trails - too many to list but South Lake Tahoe alone has such incredible riding.
  • 1 0
I've only ridden 1 of the trails on this list, and Black Bear isn't even my favorite trail at KT. But it is the one on which people will yell WHOO! the most.

Also not a CA guy myself, but I've ridden there a bit. At Soquel I prefer Braille DH and Ridge over the Flow Trail. Although I will say that particular Flow Trail is far and away the best of the new generation of "Flow" trails that I've ridden to date.

And yeah, Downieville alone is worth getting on a plane for me. Butcher Ranch being the highlight, it's everything I personally like in a trail.

All this to say this list just looks like a Trailforks Popularity contest much more than an actual trail rating. Different strokes for different folks of course though...

Most trails in cali are illegal.
  • 8 6
The Trailforks approach is interesting and refreshing. Pinkbike (despite the numerous polls throughout the year) somehow comes up with a list of nominees behind closed doors, then from behind those very same closed doors decides upon a winner out the short list of nominees. Trailforks instead actually utilizes the user data they collected and uses that to declare a winner. It may not generate as much swearing, crap and conspiracy theories in the comment section but I can see positives as well.

  • 2 0
I find it interesting that all of these trails are relatively short. Under 5.4k. Big Chook being the longest. Some incredibly short. Dirt Merch being 500m. This reveals that the users are DH and enduro centric, bike park and trail center centric.Of course that is where you get the most traffic, i.e. user ratings. I wonder if you can breakdown the data to trails over 10k in distance or trails with a certain amount of elevation gain. Example, best ranked trail with 500m elevation gain and best rating for trails over 10k in length.
  • 4 0
Many of those trails are part of bigger trail networks, with options to reach them or continue onwards from their "end". Captain Kangaroo for example has a matching up track (Mr Green Jeans), which is also quite nice - probably part of what makes Captain Kangaroo get so many upvotes. The down trail got the upvotes, but the up trail was part of the experience that made the down memorable. If the up trail had been heinous it would have tainted the experience of the down trail.
  • 2 0
Captain Kangaroo is a pretty long ride. Long enough that you don't necessarily feel you need to ride anymore that day.
  • 1 0
Big chook is much loved by hubbards and xc riders who go for pilgrimages to Derby in TAS. Its only really fun when very wet and then you can drift and slide all the way down. Too much pedalling and too slow a descent to be DH or Enduro centric. Have to ride it absolutely flat out to be fun in the dry
  • 1 0
@woofer2609: And Captain Kangaroo doesn't end at the parking lot, so you still have to ride at least one more fun trail to get all the way down.

Terrible trail! The Kootenay's has crappy riding in general...
  • 2 0
It really is a hella good trail. I came away impressed. One of my favourites in the Kootenays. High value trail; the descent seems longer than it should be.
  • 1 0
@ridestuff: agreed. Especially Nelson, nothing cool in BC but Whistler. Dont bother visiting hahaha
  • 4 0
Boneshaker is dope, got to ride it this summer. Kind of surprised to see it on here though
  • 1 0
 Agreed.
  • 2 0
It's well deserved. Not many trails are built like that.
  • 6 2
 What about the Trek Trails?
  • 4 0
I thought Squamish was the BEST
  • 3 1
 Shhhhhhhhhhh!
  • 6 0
The danger of having the best trails in the world is that the locals who ride them will rank them against one another.
  • 3 2
@jayacheess: I guess this also explains why there's no Bentonville...
  • 3 0
Maybe we should all get together and rank Upper Powersmart 5/5 just to mess with Trailforks Smile
  • 3 0
@wake-n-rake: Nice! Just voted it 5
  • 4 1
I use trailfjords but only reverse vote trails so the joeys go elsewhere…
  • 4 0
I will have to check Trailfjords out, sounds cool.
  • 2 0
@Roost66: dont, it's a fake place used to keep people looking for good trails away from trail forks.
  • 1 0
@Roost66: I only ride lift access fjords personally
  • 1 0
Interesting there were no blacks or double blacks from the USA. Are there regional variances in the tendency to rate things lower because they were too hard for you, not because they were poorly built?
  • 1 0
Maybe the opposite in Canada. No one's going to rate a trail very highly if they are too easy.
  • 1 0
Paired with Mr. Green Jeans this imo is the best climb/descend combo in BC. Dont forget to hit wings after for just a little more!! Kudos to the castlegar trail society and all their work.

Should get PQs Drop on there. Trailforks would explode Smile
  • 6 0
Nothing from the UK because nobody in the UK would rate anything 5/5.
  • 3 0
@danprisk: True we are a miserable bunch of.....the best we would rate anything is "Not Bad, was alright that wasnt it"
  • 2 0
Love the picture for Dirt Merchant! It’s definitely my favourite trail at Whistler!
  • 3 0
So glad the heat maps haven’t come near my favorite trails…
  • 4 3
Ironic that all these trails are bike parks and are blown out and shit..west coast Sierra's , Oregon..has the goods .. mopeds not allowed
  • 3 0
They are not all bike park trails, unless you call every bike trail network a "bike park". But even if they were, I fail to see the irony.
  • 1 0
So you have ridden them all to form that enlightened opinion?
  • 3 0
Hahaha... They quoted me on Klinovec.
  • 3 0
 I love this track
  • 2 0
Gotta feed fake reviews into trail forks to confuse the masses and keep them off you local trails. Right babe?
  • 2 0
An InfinitElgintensity/Rich Piana ref on PB... Niiiiice
  • 1 0
@KDix85: Rich Piano was truly a blessing to fitness entertainment. One of the best personalities to ever do 8 hour arm workouts.

I still think to my self "uh-oh....busted!" Every time I eat a cookie.

Big Chook (Tassie) is really not that great, surprised it made it in here. And yes, I do understand that this is a Trailforks trail rating ranking.
  • 1 0
And today I learned you can rate trails on the app. Never do that function. Regularly report conditions and review trail profiles regularly.

 1) there are flow trails, jump trails, Technical rock gardens and then trails that have extremely unique features and a mix of all. This is fairly subjective but there are trails in Laguna Beach CA that would make a pro squeamish like PG's, Dirty Bird in Rocky Peak or Crestline in in the mountains of SoCal. Hangover in Sedona is incredibly unique and Pseudo-Tsuga in Squamish for an incredible flow trail.
  • 5 0
The admins of Laguna Beach do it right. Ride one of those trails and Trail Forks will flag it as sensitive and not publicly post your ride.
  • 1 0
@birdsandtrees: Chrestline and area 51 as well.
  • 1 0
@birdsandtrees: ssshhhh there aren’t anymore trails in Laguna Beach
  • 4 6
I really need help here: there is no one single loop trail? They are all downhills, how to you get there and out of there? With two cars? a skylift? or an e-MTB? Really?

And how are these ten trails selected? Is there an overall worldwide rating on trailforks?
  • 3 0
-Is there an overall worldwide rating on trailforks?
Yes there is. A whole stats page with plenty of information to play around:
www.trailforks.com/statistics/stats
  • 2 0
You can also pedal your bike up a climb trail or fire road, usually how I get to downhills.
  • 3 0
Click on a trail and go to routes, you will be able to pick up how most people ride them.

Glad my local trails did not make this list. Confirmation they are the worst.
  • 2 0
I just want to get lost so trail forks doesn't work for me
  • 3 0
I came here to say this.
  • 4 0
 This has been noted.
  • 2 0
Only one trail barely longer than 3 miles?
  • 1 0
 Length does not determine quality.
  • 2 0
Trail forks doesn't know where the best trails are!
  • 1 0
 No one does. It's subjective.
  • 2 0
The Tech Vs Jump trail ratio is awesome!!
  • 1 0
 Y'all forgot about pat down.
  • 4 7
one of my favorite things about trailforks is the ability to rate dogshit trails 1 star. If you built a flow trail, and a month later people are complaining about "lack of maintenance" you deserve negative stars on your trail lol
  • 4 4
ya nevermind I'm wrong, all dudes getting paid 200K+ to build a flow trail that falls apart immediately deserve nothing but props especially when its all switchbacks and huck to flat jumps. its the fact that their building anything instantly means they deserve mad respect always
  • 1 0
I can't believe Horse Poo Alley didn't make the list. Payola$$$$!
  • 1 1
No Northern Monkey? Nothing from Epping Forest. This ranking is for the dogs!
  • 1 0
No Flying Monkey either, definitely a miss.
  • 1 0
haha... yeah, nothing for a reason!

Endo shits on Boundary Line. Whos mans wrote this article?
  • 2 3
3 to less than 1/2 mile in length, am I reading that right? Don't think I'd drive more than 15-20 min. for any ride that short much less to a faraway land to who knows where.
  • 3 0
Do you not understand that these trails are usually part of a network of trails? How much you ride is up to you, and if you don't understand how trail networks have named trails within them to differentiate all the different ways you could ride them (and rate sections of the network individually), then you are indeed best to stay home.
  • 3 0
Captain Kangaroo is 4.4km long. Then there are 4 choices of trails below that up to 1.6km. So in total, up to 6km in descent. Add to that the 8.5km climb to get to the top of Captain Kangaroo and you’re looking at a 14.km ride. Or, in Yankee meters that’s 8.7 miles. It’s also a 2391 foot climb to get to Captain Kangaroo. I think I’d drive more than 15-20 minutes for that ride.
  • 2 0
@eastonwest: yup! its a big ride. The climb is actually fantastic too

I don't get it, TF and PB'ers don't climb? Why are all these downhill?
  • 3 0
DH trails are fun. Climbing trails are not, hence the ratings. Does this not make sense to you? If not your lycra is too tight
  • 2 0
Climbing sucks dude, didn't you hear? Get an e-bike loser!! /s
  • 1 0
@professed: you mom really liked what she saw under my tight lycra Big Grin
  • 1 0
@SoddenDeath: I thought that too, then I got a proper bike. I love climbing and being strong. Here have another donut after your bike ride
