A big chapter of the French enduro story has been closed yesterday with the end of one of the first and most popular series in the country, the Urge 1001 Enduro Tour. Created in 2007 by 1001sentiers, this series has organized over one hundred of races on the Riviera over the last 12 years and brought amazing riding and racing on the iconic trails of the Maritime Alps to thousands of riders. It has also been a precious school for lot of young French talents who made their class on the Urge 1001 Enduro Tour before reaching the world scene, like Florian Nicolaï (4 times winner of the series) or Alex Cure (1 title). And no matter they are now frequenting professionally the EWS, they continued to take part regularly of these local races, for fun, training, friendliness and good trails.
Thus, November 4th of 2018 will enter in the books as the date of the last ever race of the 1001sentiers series. This day, Sospel MTB organized the Bévérally Sospel, final round of the last season, and provided 4 amazing stages to the participants. A great race pursued with rainy weather, as to escort the mood of the day.
Holding the biggest quantity of victories and titles on the series, Florian Nicolaï (Canyon Factory Racing) didn't miss this opportunity to win a last race. Winning the whole stages of the day, he took the victory at Sospel in front of an impressive cadet, Thomas Lapeyrie, only 15 years old!
Leader of the general rankings since the second race of the season, Rémy Quillévéré assured with a 3rd place at Sospel. Thanks to that result and 4 podiums this year, Rémy takes the title and join some prestigious names on the 1001sentiers prize list: Florian Nicolaï, Alex Cure, Julien Camellini and Olivier Giordanengo. Valentin Escriou finished 2nd and Sylvain Baud 3rd of the series.
By the same time, Julie Duvert (Ibis) finalized her perfect season with a 6th victory in 6 races and owned here 5th title in a row. At Sospel, she wins the race in front of Séverine Cigana 2nd (3rd of the series rankings) and the Italian rider Cinzia Oliva 3rd, while Léona Pierrini (out of the day after a crash) takes the silver medal on the series rankings.
Finally, Jérôme Gilloux was the fastest eMTB rider of the day, and Kenny Muller sacred in the eMTB global rankings.
