In other news, hey Red Bull! LET BEN CATHRO DO HIS JOB!!!
  • 9 1
His making full length videos this weekend?
  • 44 0
@Cob4lt: On Pinkbike's behalf he is doing an 'Inside the Tape' today and Red Bull said, that he can produce longer videos about the WC, but the raw footage is limited to 3 minutes of riding. Finally it is moving into the right direction.
  • 4 0
Patron it's still up there. Great video!
  • 77 3
Hey RedBull. Hire CATHROVISION to do his show and play it between men’s and women’s finals. Give him a cameraman/women and a camera on a tripod to do his comparisons and it will look pro as bro. I will even buy more red bull.

Maybe red bull is concerned that hes boring and that leads to less viewers.
  • 17 3
@thesharkman: If Redbull was so concerned with being boring than they would not have clipped Rob and Claudio's wings..
  • 1 0
@Waterdown: where are you getting this info?
  • 17 13
@rideitall-bmx-dh-road-unicycle: he said it in his first podcast from VDS
  • 4 2
@WAKIdesigns: why are you being down voted? He did say it? youtu.be/ST7utpt7VpU?t=920
  • 7 1
@hexhamstu: there's been the downvote patroll recently on PB. i blame russia, of course.

Anyone who says anything against Trump, gun violence, trophy hunting, I.C.E., MAGA mania, or anything remotely Leftist, gets a DV barnacle cluster attached to their PB hull -- people who 'Follow' you just to DV your every post. It even happens to me on every post. You know who you are. Wait for it..........
  • 10 4
@endlessblockades: c'mon, everyone knows that downvotes from losers posting from their mother's basement at 10am on a weekday whilst stewing in their own hatred is much more effective than civil discourse.
  • 11 0
Maybe the people who find Cathro boring are the ones who cant ride good enough to benefit from his insight???
  • 2 0
@endlessblockades: The MAGA down vote boogieman strikes again.
  • 2 1
@endlessblockades: tbf I think that's probably more of an anti politics thing here. Like leave that shit out of it, we just want to ride bikes.

I might be wrong, but I am saying that from the POV of a (literally) card carrying lefty.

I think the real question here is how did Hugo Friztalon do it. Rain doesn't mean anything in Val di Sole. You can see it was a lot of sector two and a little sector three. (/pinkbikecomment) worldcup.eliotjackson.com/results

Damn Eliot your site is simply amazing!
  • 4 0
Thank you @EliotJackson for this super nice tool!
  • 1 0
Great work, kinda nuts to see a 10 second spread so evenly spaced between the top 4. Especially when 4-7 is in the same second off the top time.
  • 8 0
I think we found the analyst we need
  • 2 3
And there I go and hit the wrong button. Sorry for the downvote
  • 15 0
Yo Eliooooooooooooot !!!!!! you website is freaking amazing man, good job. Do you think you could do the same for the EWS ?
  • 2 1
"Rain doesn't mean anything in Val di Sole"?? With those roots? You got to be kidding, right?
  • 1 0
@Gamsjaga: it is a great site. I’ve been using to help me, to no avail, choose a winning DH fantasy team.
  • 1 0
Wow, this is an incredible tool. Thanks @EliotJackson!

Unreal, kudos! Exactly the kind of site I've been thinking about building myself, ha!
  • 4 0
 Someone sign Monika Hrastnik already!
  • 1 0
 @Gamsjaga: Right? That's super cool!
  • 1 0
@yoannbarelli: Thank youu Yoann!!! I did a couple little things awhile ago, enough to see McKay and Josh had the biggest drops in position in a race hahaha. Maybe next year. No promises Wink

 'vali höll would've been ... in elite women' comments in 3, 2, 1 ....
  • 19 0
 1st!
  • 17 1
well... first this time!! haha, not that I don't believe in her skills, but surely the weather got way worse for her to be able to beat the top women qualifier by over 10 seconds.. and also, Hrastnik? awesome to see it changed up!
  • 7 0
@macimecdufour: also not to downplay Vali, she's incredible... but yes, the weather turned.
  • 4 0
4 juniors would have made the top 5 in Elite, the conditions probably changed
  • 4 4
Yah thats great and all bu the #1 junior man was the fattest down the hill for the day. Thats even bigger a deal.
  • 3 1
 @lennoxrider: probably? ????

Val Di Sole + F1 at Silverstone. Quite a few beers will be had this weekend, starting - NOW.
(succer not included since it's a "sport" for sissies)

And cos you’re gonna lose Wink
  • 3 0
They no longer have f1 coverage in Australia without ppl - I will support Troy and Conner at VDS.
  • 3 1

  • 2 0
+ XCO short track just now and the main events on Sunday. Hectic.
  • 5 0
@harrybrottman: F1 is not as good as it used to be. You Don't loose anything mate. If you can Watch AMA Motocross or moto gp, you would spend a better time.
  • 6 1
F1 is a joke and has been for decades, it's basically a human passenger in an overpriced robot. The drivers are talented individuals mind you but money = wins in F1. The best drivers on the planet, bar none, race in the WRC.
  • 1 0
@smartfartbart: last race was ok, but we will see if overtaking will be improved with new aero regulations for next year.
  • 5 1
I'm sure I'm not the only pinkbike forumenger looking forward to Tour de France Grand Departe tomorrow?..
  • 6 2
Soccer for sissies and then watch f1? OKAY
  • 3 3
@Globu: I shall be watching it mate ,with a bit of luck England will get knocked out of the soccer tomorrow so I can watch uninterrupted cycling for the next 3 weeks Smile
  • 4 1
@Bomadics: Glad I saw Senna, Mansell, and Prost battle it out live back in the day.
  • 1 0
@endlessblockades: Yes, racing before driver assists, I was watching the race live when Senna died, and some of the passes Mansell used to pull off where ridiculous.
  • 1 0
@Bomadics: Have you seen the on board camera lap of Senna at Monaco 1990 its on youtube I think .. Talk about driving the wheels off a car !!!!
  • 1 0
@Bomadics: Me too - on TV. RIP to a legend. I made it to Phoenix 91 and Montreal 99 in person. Security was so lax at Phoenix we were able to walk up to Mansell's disabled Williams-Renault in the hairpin near our 'bronze' cheap-seats and could have reached in the cockpit and pulled the key out! - during the race!!
  • 1 0
 @smartfartbart: a WAY better time!!!
  • 1 0
@endlessblockades: where is Schumacher in your words, the one and only
  • 1 0
@Chridel: Schumey's lips and attitude always bothered me a bit but he was a great driver for sure. I don't think I saw him race - maybe he was on Benetton in 91 and he had a broken leg at Montreal (I think - too much Molson),

  • 11 0
In France we do. He's a young gun supported by Commencal Wink
  • 12 0
@Rideuse67: thanks for that info. Hugo clearly has some speed!

Commencal is KILLING it right now with awesome bikes and even more awesome talent!
  • 1 0
@Speeder01: Absolutely, they look like an amazing team...
  • 1 1
Edgy, artistic and packed with awesome shred! Hugo Frixtalon is a young rider (18 yo) who rides on the World Cup DH circuit. He finished 7th in the junior category in Val di Sole. But beyond his competitiveness, he is a huge fan of videos.
  • 2 0
@DaveJube: haha is that straight from his Insta bio!?
  • 1 0
 @frankwizza: Haha..yep, just googled Him
  • 5 0
now Barth goes in 5th position? whats the deal in val di sole? Is the track getting faster again or just a magic run for Barth? doesnt completely make sense to me
  • 3 0
It has clearly rained and heavily - look at the jnr men times compared with elite
  • 3 0
@tomo12377: yes it must have rained after the jnr men times. Then the fastst men tackled the course and scored relatively slow times, but then later some "underdog" riders deliver good times (Barth, Frixtalon). Could the track dry that fast? normally its getting even worse when the rain stops and the mud thickens
  • 6 0
This is Luca's race. Hopefully, not starting from the top spot will make a difference.
  • 5 0
Oh hell conditions must be gnarly by judging of these results. Wish a safe race for everyone!
  • 5 0
Amaury is on fire - then Finn up over by 6 seconds over Hart and the rest. Gonna be a real nail bitter tomorrow.
  • 5 0
I look forward to watching the (new) Blenki Show this weekend.
  • 5 0
 Myriam Nicole DNS? What's happening?
  • 6 1
Frown Hope she can ride tomorrow or RIP my fantasy team...
  • 3 2
 Shes protected, she'll be fine.
  • 8 0
@jeffakalucas: I think when you dns you can't race even if protected...
  • 3 0
@jeffakalucas: doesn't she have to start qualyfing still?
  • 2 0
 @russthedog: I think you're right. Good call.
  • 3 0
@ORTOGONAL555: she has to roll out of the gate.
  • 4 1
she crashed this morning and wont race according to commencal_vallnord instagram Frown
  • 1 0
 @lerouge: Rosters are still open...
  • 1 1
@lerouge: yeah same here, my fantasy team is f*cked anyways, I didn't know the race was on Saturday so I was planning to decide it today. so I can't modify my team from last race...
  • 1 0
@drexel23: she won't start tomorrow then
  • 1 0
@zede: you still can right now
  • 1 1
@ORTOGONAL555: no it modifies it for next race
  • 1 0
Looks like she crashed, her times stop after split 2.
  • 2 0
@zede: It seemed we still had time until qualification end. There was a counter with some minutes left. But I left my team that I picked yesterday anyway.
  • 4 0
If she's DNS she can't race tomorrow, DNF she can - the rider needs to make the start in qualis to race, but doesn't have to finish.
  • 2 0
@mattwragg: Someone at PB screwed up and had the Fantasy DH lock-down setup for a Sunday race (as is normal for WCDH), it was for July 7 instead of July 6 lock-down...

so now anyone in Europe who was paying attention had the chance to change their roster post-qualifying...
  • 6 0
 @mattwragg:
The Fantasy DH needs to be locked down BEFORE qualifying starts. Nobody down here is going to wake up at 2am in the morning to check times and make changes to their team.
Its an unfair advantage for everyone who happens to be in a favourable time zone.
  • 3 0
@blockie: it was the last race, I think someone at PB didn't realize VDS is a Saturday so they got the date wrong. IMO they should've just left it open the rest of today to give everyone a chance to make post-qualy changes but oh well.

Alternatively, PB could just back any changes out of the DB that were made after qualification started, that would be fair and pretty easy to do.
  • 5 0
Team Commencal is on a rampage!
  • 2 0
it actually rained in between the qualis for the junior riders and the expert riders, this is why the juniors run much faster lap times compared to the older riders.
  • 2 0
Gwin had a crash on practice and landed on his thumb. Bye-bye fantasy team

Sad news Frown (and I don't even have him in my team)
  • 2 0
I was about to ask what happened to him... well... I'm screwed.
  • 5 0
Thanks for sharing the post. "That's racing, success is never owed." What a champion, despite the setbacks and the title slipping farther away he still expresses humility.
  • 3 0
All we need now is for him to break something on his bike and he'll be sure to win it.
  • 3 0
Gwin's IG says he crashed and landed right on the thumb again, tomorrow is suspect for him. Bummer!
  • 1 1
Can he race if he didn't make quali?
  • 1 0
@DaveJube: Yes. He is protected. He started his quali run, just didn't finish it.
  • 1 0
Monika's time must have been affected by rain (i.e. did it start raining right after or while she was qualifying?... she can't have been the only woman that made it down clean? 10 seconds is a ridiculous gap.
  • 6 0
I heard it started raining 30 minutes before women's qualifying. And she was 7th at the start gate so it was raining while she was on track. She just didn't crash. She is that good - everything just clicked for her today. She is training hard and giving 100% at every race (I know all riders do though). It was just a little bit of luck she needed and today was her day. I respect all girls and wish them all the best at every race but there can only be one winner. And this time I do wish luck will stick with Monika till tomorrow. Because she already has skills, talent and speed.
  • 1 0
@zoya: Thank you for the rain info... after checking Eliot's site it's obvious she is really riding that well... I was just surprised because she hasn't been a consistently high-ranked rider until this year in the UCI DH. www.rootsandrain.com/compare67651,747,13153

Awesome to see more women coming up to top pace!
  • 3 0
 what's happened with Giacomo Masiero's time? I assume it's 3.59 ish?
  • 3 0
Joshua Barth on 5th...yeah dude!!!! thats awesome
  • 1 0
Must be nice to be a protected racer in this event! Ive been there and it is truly a gnarly course. Anything can happen, and it does!
  • 2 0
Anybody know what happened to Dakotah Norton? DNF... hoping he's not injured.
  • 2 0
Dislocated his shoulder from what I've seen in IG.
  • 1 0
The “V” website has a start list for everyone wondering who’s in and who’s out. Dak is in. Finn starts 48th. . . Wtf.
  • 2 0
Connor in 13th, and TB in 52nd, lurking. Going to enjoy watching the SAust connections run well here.
  • 2 1
what about 'Murica pinner dakotah norton? He's showing up as a DNF....is he protected?
  • 1 0
Beat me to it by a couple minutes... I'm pretty sure he's protected since he's ranked 9th, just hoping he's not injured at this point.
  • 1 0
Gwin's IG says he took a spill and wrecked the thumb again. Says he will try to race tomorrow if he can...
  • 1 0
Nobody has mentioned that Hugo is riding 26" wheels, unless he has changed for this race
  • 3 0
 YES Joey, you got this!!
  • 2 0
What is happening with the women's times? Rain?
  • 1 0
I dunno, seems like few are getting down without problems...
  • 2 0
YT Intstram states "Qauli time and it just started to rain..."
  • 2 0
Both Rachel and Tahnee seem to have had a crash between splits 2 and 3. And Miriam Nicole DNS...
  • 3 0
Its chucking it down at the moment!! Heavy rain must have started about an hour ago.
  • 2 0
rain? that would explain why Valentina Höll is so much faster than elite ladies
  • 3 2
Valentina Holl is the new queen of DH! First time riding this track and absolutely slaying it...
  • 1 0
She is a beast and so fast! Sad the women's field is so vastly non-competitive for DH. Before anyone cries, Rachel has embarrassed the Pro women's field up until recently. After the top 3-5 the time gaps are ridiculous. There women's field is better than it has been in a while. However, it's depth really isn't there.

Vali is a solid up and comer and has a bright future and I wish her the best. Ok, I will take my Pinkbike beating now. :-D
  • 2 0
 Did Gwin just crash?. DNF...
  • 1 0
Also conditions must be gnarly. Junior men almost 10 seconds faster then Pierron (Who has beasted the rest of the men).
  • 2 0
i guess i just rolled out of the gate
  • 1 0
Babaaam - Pierron is going for it. Back to back start with Vergier and Brosnan and still 10sec faster.
  • 1 0
Kate W! From NZ hiding in the middle of the pack. Warming up for Worlds are you? Give me a break,,,step on the gas.
  • 1 0
If only this would be the final results.
My fantasy team: Pierron, Iles, Shaw
  • 5 2
 NEW NAMES YES! ! ! ! !
  • 1 0
He's dangerous, he's French. It's what the French do, they win world cups. -Rob Warner.
  • 1 1
It's gonna be a good race. This is the year that some changes are taking place. The young kids are movin in and take their spots on the podium. can't wait to see race day.
  • 1 0
ok hows monika hrastnik gone almost 10 seconds faster than tahnee?
  • 2 1
Looks like Tahnee had a crash - she lost from one to the other segment over 10 sec
  • 4 5
 @tomonda: nice denglish!
  • 1 0
 what happened to nicole??
  • 1 2
The top two junior women have faster times than the pro woman....can we just get Vali Holl into pro already. +14sec is disgusting lol
  • 1 0
faster but drier = not faster
  • 1 0
14 seconds up on second, wow
  • 2 0
 Finn is on a flyer
  • 1 0
 Yes Finn and Joey Foresta!
  • 1 0
1st and 2nd juniors with fastest time of the day 'bravo' youngsters
  • 1 0
6 protected Men outside of qualifying. Has that ever happened before?
  • 1 0
 Daje Giacomooo!! A tuono!!
  • 1 0
I have a feeling this might be one of the best world cups to catch ever!!
  • 1 2
Val smashed Elite Women’s Qualis by almost half a minute

Did the Junior Men’s really post a quicker time than Elite Men’s as well?
  • 3 0
Hearing there was a rain storm between juniors and pros, could be why there’s such drastic differences.
  • 1 0
Scratch that, 19th from last I suppose.
  • 1 0
congrats Max Morgan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KILL IT BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 1 0
Frixtalon? Don’t know how it auto corrected to Dritzlan
  • 1 0
Sucky for Eddie masters, he is riding so good this year.
  • 1 0
Just hoping the weather doesn't mess with things on race day.
  • 1 1
TT 3:46 and calif 4:07!! did it rain??
  • 1 0
 is Dakota ok?
  • 1 0
 Who is Hugo Driztalin?
  • 2 3
GWIN DNF?!?!??! WTF!! Probably a power move by the Gwinner!
  • 1 0
Does he start first tomorrow in this case? If so, maybe hoping to have luck and just miss the rain?
  • 4 0
@InfraRed: Yes, he is protected. He just has to leave the starting gate and he will be in the top 20 for finals. He's nursing a still-injured thumb and if it is raining like crazy, then he won't risk further injury or death.
  • 4 0
@InfraRed: Exactly! Gwin has done this previously. He just need to roll through the start gate to race tomorrow. However, he'll go first in finals and as you said, maybe they're watching the doppler!
  • 2 0
@jeffakalucas: not sure he'll start first with thenew rules...
  • 1 0
@ORTOGONAL555: Oh yeah, didn't think of that either! Good point. Maybe he's just taking it easy on the thumb considering the conditions!
  • 2 0
Yeah, that's why I asked. But still that might be a smart move and start just "early enough" for the win tomorrow, without risking it further down the track in qualification. Waiting for Cathro to explain it Big Grin .
  • 3 0
@jeffakalucas: Pretty sure Gwin has his own Doppler satellite. He was just playing it safe but no starting first this time.
  • 1 0
@fecalmaster: According to my Doppler the weather should be much better on Saturday, with a 7% chance of rain.
  • 6 0
With the overall being so tight, I doubt he do that as he’d want the points from qualifying. Also, playing it safe doesn’t seem to be Gwin’s style.
  • 1 1
@fecalmaster: He call always call upon the lord to help a little. Big Grin
  • 1 0
Nope, crash and reinjured his thumb badly. Unlikely to race.
  • 3 3
 Jesus Holl.
  • 1 3
 ENGLAND PLAY TOMORROW
  • 2 0
