Too early to call, but wow, Vali Höll up almost 15 seconds up on Miryiam Nicole, what an impressive entry into the elite category!
  • 24 0
That women is just fast. Home town advantage? Just a little. But just raw speed to take on the best like that. Can’t wait to see her in the finals and into the future.
  • 37 2
smells like chicken line vs. full send
  • 4 2
So stoked on her first in Qualifying, but let's wait for Sunday. Not sure if some ladies can't find an extra few seconds in their final runs.
  • 17 0
Omg - so happy to be an Austrian tree citizen - go valli!!!!
  • 28 2
So Vali could potentially be this year world champ in her first elite year if sunday's race is cancelled.
  • 5 0
@Lagr1980: You are right. Checkin at the splits It seems that the biggest difference between the first two riders and the rest of the field is in the last part of the track.
  • 7 2
@fracasnoxteam: she could also be works champ next year if she just wins this Sunday as well
  • 2 0
@Lagr1980: You are right. Checking at the splits It seems that the biggest difference between the first two riders and the rest of the field is in the last part of the track.
  • 6 0
@flowisforpussies: Agreed, but the splits also reveal that Vali Höll already had a lead of about 8.5 seconds over Nicole at split 4 and about 3.5 over Hannah. Still super impressive. Anyway, the real race is (hopefully) on Sunday. It's gonna be a great one! And just as a sidenote: the new live timing feed and its features are quite nice. Not quite like live coverage, but a much appreciated substitute.
  • 2 0
I would agree if Hannah was not close to her, Nicole more than 10s behind Hannah she didn't ride fast (no idea the reasons)
  • 2 9
flag andypandyuk (Oct 9, 2020 at 4:55) (Below Threshold)
@Lagr1980: Or the PC definition, "alternative route" haha.
  • 3 1
Huge time gaps in every class, this is going to be bonkers.
  • 2 1
It's too bad she doesn't have a chance to race Rachael Atherton at her height.
  • 5 1
@TheR: And Rachel could say that about ACC, but that's life innit?
  • 1 3
@suspended-flesh: And it's a shame Jordan never got to play LeBron. Yep, that's life. It's just a shame that there can only be one extremely dominant woman at a time.
  • 3 1
There is still a lot of gamesmanship and strategy with qual times...I wouldn't look at these times anything more than that
  • 2 3
@RadBartTaylor: Yep Gwin has been known for that.
  • 1 0
@RadBartTaylor: @suspended-flesh except it's way different this year. The UCI already stated that if Sunday is snowed out, then the final results will be the qualifier results. So waaaaay more to play for in qualies this year.
  • 1 0
@Trudeez: still hedging bets, if it doesn't snow, pressures on the top qualifiers on a course that's potentially totally diff than when they qualified....not to mention the risk associated with full speed race run....

Will be interesting!
  • 2 2
@Trudeez: Aaron has a deal with the weather god.
  • 1 0
@Lagr1980: Chicken line got World Champs last year!
  • 39 0
Anyone on site know if Brook is ok? Dnf next to his name is not good. Hopefully a mechanical...
  • 1 0
what a bummer! something was off with the track anyways... Wyn and a few others restarted after Bruni (and were on track before)
  • 3 0
Looks like he got a re-run. Must have been a red flag on track
  • 1 0
 @Nick224: you mean Wyn?
  • 37 0
UPDATE (from a green website): Handlebars broke, had to roll down the fire road. All good.
  • 2 1
 @jamesdunford: from a what?
do you have a link?
  • 35 0
@danimaniac: from a green website, full of Vitality
  • 2 0
@jamesdunford: thanks mate. I’ll check out the ‘green’ website...
  • 7 0
@jamesdunford: Handlebars broken, normal day at the office for a bulldog
  • 1 0
Looks like he crashed during practice according to the photo report on here yesterday. Looks like he was fine though and then had the handlebar issue during qualifying.
  • 2 0
Brook hit an explosive tree, and this broke his handlebar. God dammit stupid Austrian explosive trees
  • 18 1
Who is gonna send it today given the uncertainty about sunday? Will experience pay off or will the youger guns take it with raw speed?
  • 100 0
I read this in Rob Warner’s voice and it made my day
  • 2 0
 Theres a few with both
  • 5 0
@SquattiePippen: Crazy how your brain can just synthesize someone saying something
  • 6 0
@simooo: that's how fake memories are made, very interesting topic.
  • 1 0
Sunday is looking like a soaker for sure. Who ever stays on the bike will take it.
  • 5 0
 No Denin Destroyer
  • 17 0
Should of defo filmed qaulis given sunday may not happen weve all waited a year to see this
  • 13 0
Reece Wilson lost 20 seconds before the first split and finished with 18 seconds back in total...Fastest in sectors 2-5 with 25 riders left..
And Thibaut Daprela doesnt seem to be injured (as marked in fantasy)
  • 3 1
Wilson would have finished Top 3 with a "normal" top 15 time in the first sector :o
  • 3 0
Judging by the clips getting posted, he's getting comfortable with awkward muddy lines
  • 14 0
People racing elite with year of birth in this century. God I feel old.
  • 4 0
I was also reading through the YOB field...then I felt better when I saw Greg coming in at 1981.
  • 1 0
I always thought Wyn and Ed Masters were “older” so I was a little shocked when I saw I’m actually older than both of them. I think I need to change my self-conception.
  • 11 0
YES VALI! Her and Tracey are gonna have a battle Sunday. Please stay away snow!
  • 9 1
So if the finals get cancelled due to bad weather/snow.. this will be the run that counts for the medals!
  • 4 1
Yep, UCI confirmed that yesterday, so I doubt anyone held back this time. Would be a risky decision to take it easy knowing that.
  • 5 0
If the weather is going to be that bad on Sunday they should just bump it all to Saturday. We Dh fans and riders deserve atleast one race this year
  • 4 0
@grundletroll: they have a full schedule of xc racing on saturday, it's pretty much impossible to have that at the same time
  • 1 0
@likehell: Thank god, XC is where its at.......
  • 1 0
@Imabigboy82: Yep. It’s going to be brutal.
  • 5 0
@Freakyjon: Gwin is a strategic rider and has often held back in qualifying. I wonder if he's taking gamble with qualifying slower and saving it for the big day - or did he just have a slower run?
  • 3 0
@jaydubmah: In his IG story he says he went off track in the first split and had to hike back up to stay on course.
  • 1 0
@MarcusBrody: Hopefully safer than the last time he went off track (Ft. Bill)
  • 6 0
DAMN! What happened to Brook? Was really rooting for a solid finish. Not going down in the first section.
Also Laurie lost it somewhere in the second... too bad really

My stoke is fleeting
  • 3 1
hopefully both as protected riders they can lay down a fast run early on race day!
  • 3 0
@holden-biking: I thought the start list was decided anyway - so they'll be setting of when they were going to anyway
  • 1 0
@holden-biking: I'm not sure that Champs has the protected system, in fact I'm not even sure whether it's top 60 like a WC or whether everyone rides and this is more like timed training.
  • 2 1
@thingswelike: I checked the UCI rulebook:

The start order is not affected by quali, they'll be going in the set order anyway, top 80 from quali to go through (not 60 like a WC).

Regards protected riders:

For all DHI events (Men Elite, Women Elite, Men Juniors and Women Juniors), riders are
required to ride in the qualifying round. The number of riders qualifying for the final are as
follows:
- Men Elite: top 80 riders in the qualifying round
- Women Elite: top 40 riders in the qualifying round
- Men Juniors: top 60 riders in the qualifying round
- Women Juniors: top 15 riders in the qualifying round
For the final in the Men Elite and Women Elite, the “protected riders” are: Riders ranked in
the top 10 Women Elite and the top 20 Men Elite of the final world cup standings of the 2019
season.
Even “protected riders” must start in the qualifying round in order to be entitled to ride the
final.
  • 1 0
 @GrandMasterOrge:
so just by rolling out of the gate today then at least they should both get to start then! fingers crossed they’re all good for race day
  • 1 0
Laurie had a great top section.. hoping for race day
  • 1 0
@DANKimball: dislocated thumb I'm hearing Frown
  • 1 0
@thingswelike: yeah snapped a tendon according to his Instagram.

Looks like he is OK to race though.
  • 2 0
 @thingswelike: might be schizophrenia...
  • 1 0
@DANKimball: He tore his thumb ligaments. They'll have to duct tape him to the handlebars or something
  • 8 0
Vali Höll 14 secs faster than Myriam Nicole... the fok?!
  • 2 0
 Myriam had a crash
  • 5 0
Looks like Holl and Hannah went full banzai, whilst Nicole and Seagrave held something back. It's between split 3 and 4 that the real big gaps emerge. Should be an epic showdown!
  • 6 3
 chicken line
  • 1 2
 @Lagr1980: Or a crash perhaps?
  • 1 1
@Lagr1980: But Nicole already sent the gap in practice (saw a video). But there is always a chance of a mistake at the exit of the wood before the jump - and then you have to take the chicken line.
  • 3 0
 #FULL_BANZAI
  • 1 0
@ka-brap: Yep, crash before the motorway so no speed and a huge loss of time
  • 4 0
Something has happened on track. Wyn, Lucas Cruz and several others with DNF and stopped mid-run all at the same time. Must be course hold, and I guess re-runs. Or a computer glitch and I am reading too much into this.
  • 1 0
Yep, all starts from 45 through 50 is DNF
  • 8 0
They're back on again now, and Coulanges is on a fast one! Absolute bargain in the fantasy league.
  • 1 0
Laurie Greenland DNF...does it mean he won't race?
  • 1 1
@miguelcurto: I think he's protected, so should be okay to start (very early)
  • 1 0
@danimaniac: Do all riders who finished qualifying get to race on Sunday? or is it only the top (X) riders ?
  • 1 0
@Johanvdb: pretty sure it's all and qualy normally only decides running order but unsure if you can start with a DNF - need to do some googling!
  • 1 0
@danimaniac: got it,he still had second time on split1, nothing serious hopefully
  • 1 0
@miguelcurto: he managed to get a timing stamp for section 2,too.so hopefully not seriously injured, but a mere mechanical
  • 1 0
Grrrr, the UCI regs don't explicitly call our DNF in qualies - need an expert to weigh in. Really want to see Brook and Laurie in the finals!!
  • 4 1
 @sourmix: www.tissottiming.com/File/0003120001010601FFFFFFFFFFFFFF03
Found it at the bottom it reads "Qualification Rule: Riders ranked 1-80 and the protected riders who started qualify for the final." Brook and Laurie are protected. So if they are fine should race on sunday
  • 2 0
@Johanvdb: On VitalMTB there is an interview with Brook where he said that he had an issue with the handlebar and hat to ride down the fireroad. He seems to be ok.
  • 5 0
@miguelcurto: Riders must at least cross the start line. They can then pull out at any time before the finish line, or of course finish. Then still race in the main finals for the World Champs.
  • 5 0

 @si-paton: thanks fella!
  • 1 0
@Footey72: Picked him up for pennies myself!
  • 8 0
 Yeeeeh jack moir!
  • 6 0
I was going to say the same thing. I am not a bike hater but it seems like getting off the Intense was the absolute right move.
  • 1 0
 @jmhills: or racing enduro works?
  • 5 5
@jmhills: I'd argue that getting off Gwin's intense was the move. That team is stale and boring now - just like Gwin. His first two years with intense he was absolutely killing it, multiple top 10s. (Also, adjusting to new suspension, tires, wheels, cockpit, drivetrain and brakes probably wasn't that ideal either).
  • 1 1
@Trudeez: Okay dude. LOL - Tell me about Gwins domination riding a completely new kit, for YT. Didn't slow him down then.

Also, maybe you forgot about his injuries that have actually slowed him down the last 2 years?

Gwin being boring... Its like you barely have paid attention to who his competition is, and what's been going on with him the last 2-3 years.
  • 7 1
Vali has just torn them to shreds
  • 2 0
Tracey Hannah not far off the pace though
  • 12 8
Seriously? At the Mega us mere mortals ride slush ice on a stupid glacier, but these guys and gals can't handle a bit of snow? That sounds quite ridiculous to me.
  • 11 2
I'm with you. Can't see any reason to consider cancelling due to snow. It's like mud, but white. They can ride mud.
  • 4 2
I'm sure they can handle a bit of snow but the weather conditions will effect the ability to help/remove an injured rider.
  • 6 0
Have you watched the videos from practice?? No way anyone is getting down that track without crashing if it's covered in a layer of snow.
A glacier is a totally different proposition.
  • 2 0
@Paco77: oh come on, anyone of them has ridden snow before. Ruts will be ruts, even in the snow. If it stays that wet, everybody will ride the ruts, no matter if there's a bit of snow or not.
  • 6 0
The Mega up top is wide open- no trees, stumps, etc.. that could seriously ruin a riders career/life at unstoppable speeds. Spectators may think it's cool, but I bet the WC racers would rather live to race another day.
  • 2 1
@mluk2004: Maybe, but how do they manage it in ski season then? Or is this half snow/half rain more dangerous perhaps?
I get the feeling that they will run the race tbh
  • 1 1
Marked skiing slopes (or marked ski racing courses) are generally much more accesible by helicopter, snowcat or ski-doo due to their width, gradient and "vegetationlessness" than most downhill mountainbike tracks are.
Might be that snow together with bad visibilty is too much of added difficulty for the rescue teams then.
  • 2 0
@neimbc: you do realize that i wrote 'a bit of snow', not conditions like on a ski slope, right? Which is very unlikely in those woods anyway. Well, we will see.
  • 2 0
@mluk2004: come on, it's a Ski resort, they can med evac in snow. Snowmobiles, cats, tracked quads with sleds.. choppers can land in snow or mud.

And they can ride it in snow as well as mud. Speed gets reduced but it's about who is fastest on the day.
  • 3 0
@FredrikWestman: its because of mountain safety and search and rescue. ESPECIALLY after the absolute budge job last year with Brook's injury and subsequent mountain rescue fark up. Organizers need to be sure first responders can safely and expeditiously get to an injured rider should the need arise. I'm sure 99% of the riders will ride given the opportunity, but theres bigger things at play.
  • 2 0
@Trudeez: of course it's ok if they cancel it for the right reason, safety. Ie if the weather/visibility means a chopper cant land. They still need to move any injured rider to the landing zone which might be easier in snow than deep mud btw. Here's hoping that wont be necessary.
But, cancelling for the wrong reasons, just because someone thinks you cant ride in skow, would rob all of the one race of 2020, and potentially one h-ck of a race. They need to watch some of Robin Wallners insta ripping DH bikes in deep snow if they believe that.
  • 1 0
@muckal it's the UCI calling it, not the riders.
  • 1 0
@ColquhounerHooner: yeah, I know, thanks nonetheless.
  • 7 0
 Yes MATT!! DO IT UP
  • 2 0
Hell ya , kid! The Stars and Stripes are proud! Get that rainbow jersey!
  • 2 0
 S T E R L I N G !
  • 1 0
Can anyone explain to a Rookie like me what the 'P' against some names on the left, and what the 'Q' on the right means? Laurie Greenland did not finish so i'm wondering if he is still competing and if he is, how so? Just trying to get my head around how the qualifiers, and scoring works in the world cup. Really excited for the action this Sunday. Cheers in advance.
  • 2 1
The P means he is protected meaning he can DNF and still Qualify for the finals. Q means qualified, which a select few riders needed to do.
  • 4 0
Compared to EWS the live timing is pretty solid! Didn't expect that from UCI :o
  • 3 0
Stoked for Moir, too. Angel Suarez is on pace - maybe he will get a chance to show his true speed next year. The kid in underrated.
  • 3 0
Are the men off yet? Does anyone know the link to live timing. I’m Lost in a sea of UCI web tabs..
  • 1 0
Suarez and Burns seem to be the hot tip for a longer hotseat period
  • 1 0
 Thanks.
  • 4 0
 Vali ♥
Just watch out for exploding trees and sent it!!!
  • 3 1
Can we not get a stream of qualis since it seems they could be quite important this year?
Also why is quali's on Friday with the race on Sunday? is there practice tomorrow?
  • 7 2
It's like that EVERY world Champs. It's not a wc.
  • 4 0
Marine 35 seconds back is definitely a curveball. Wow.
  • 1 0
She migrated towards the back of the pack more than I expected, too.
  • 2 0
Watching the live timings - did Wyn go down? Seems like a red flag might have happened between split 3 and 4 - hope he's all good!
  • 4 0
damn Laurie Greenland with the crash hope he is all good
  • 1 1
might get lucky as a protected rider and get down early before the track is dead now!
  • 1 0
His insta says he dislocated his thumb and popped it back in, so will have to see how he is tomorrow.
  • 2 0
@joshleb: Couple jiggers of schnapps at the start hut. This is Worlds!
  • 1 0
@holden-biking: aren't all riders protected at Worlds? Seeding is only fir starting order right?
  • 3 0
Thirion always fast in the mud, and beware for sunday he is also ski teacher during winter!
  • 1 1
 My Report:

- Seems the ones who´s been racing a bit in the season it´s a plus... (french army, Moir...) In contrast some others seems to not have the ritdhm..

- Shaw and Hart had great splits but looks like they speed down before finish line...

- Holl finally confirms her potential in Elite at home.
  • 2 0
I would love to see Tracey win one before the next generation of dominators comes along. Vali will have plenty of time to win many many races.
  • 1 0
So it’s whoever got the best run in the slop, unpredictable and no run is the same or consistent. I don’t believe in luck so it must be who has the best leg to push down in the slop to push off
  • 3 0
Ed Masters is quickly becoming the most versatile rider in mountain biking. My opinion.
  • 2 0
 He even balds well.
  • 2 0
Tracey only 3 secs off her, will be nice race on Sunday. We need Rachel back!
  • 4 0
 Vive la France.
  • 1 0
Can somebody tell me what the P next to some riders numbers means?? I am asking myselft this for a few years now and couldnt find an answer ob the internet...
  • 1 0
 P=Protected Rider
  • 3 0
Looking at the junior men's splits, it's still a lottery up there...
  • 3 0
 Hölly f.. she's so fast !
  • 3 0
 Feniak?
  • 4 0
 Go Coulanges!
  • 3 0
Both brook and Laurie with the DNF, the problem with the timing chip?
  • 1 0
don't think so as Laurie had a 7:50+ time for Section 2
  • 1 2
How many riders, rider the final? Is it top 60 like the WC's? I'd hate to see Sik Mik not make the cut - 1st in the speed trap and good first 3 splits - must have crashed the last split. Would have easily slotted in the top 10.
  • 2 0
You've looked at results and analysed the splits yet missed seeing the 'Q' in the last column?
  • 1 0
@stage-a: I guess so. That's good news! So I guess it's everyone in the final. Thanks.
  • 1 0
Angel. I had a feeling he'd be right in there. I know he can ride, just something not quite meshing for him the last couple of years. Its coming.
  • 2 0
Mick Hannah looked pretty good in the splits, hope he can keep it together on Sunday!
  • 3 0
 #Finnforthewin
  • 1 0
what did he do between splits 3 & 4!!??
  • 7 0
What did Vergier do between 3 and 4? :o
  • 2 0
Congratulations to him for keeping it from being a French lockout!
  • 2 0
Looks like a controlled ride. Hung in there in the ‘Bikepark’ section and smashed it out of the park in the slime!
  • 1 0
@ThrillPhil46: he and Greg must have found a secret line Smile
  • 1 0
@ThrillPhil46: 3,5 Sekunden auf Bruni.. whhaaaat!?
  • 2 0
I want Sam Hill time Smile ))
  • 1 0
Good luck picking a winner, so is qualifying going to be filmed in case ends up final results?
  • 1 0
I think usually they use it as a testrun for the equipment, because you can see the fastest qualifier run in the RBTV if I recall correctly. So I hope in that case they can use that..
  • 2 0
Spoke too soon - Tracey Hannah!
  • 3 0
 Live timing link anyone?
  • 1 0
It started just now, for whatever reason not 30 Minutes ago.
  • 1 0
@MadCyborg: No idea what you're saying here
  • 2 0
@jimmythehat: The live timing started 12:45 and not 12:15. I thought you asked for a working links since between 12.15 and 12:45 there was no link available, although the quali should have started 12:15.
But for any reason it started later: 12:45.
The link to the link was given in the article alle the time. Carefull reading would have revealed it.

Damn, Wyn crashed too...

Vali is so f****in good ! If results are like this on sunday for men, I would be an happy french !
  • 1 0
Awesome to see the juniors in action. Such a shame they have missed an important season for them to grow as riders.

  • 1 0
Anyone know what happened to Laurie and Brook?
  • 1 0
Its not about the snow its safety for riders if they need to get out
  • 3 2
Vali would be 69th in the mens. That's nice
  • 2 0
 Nice
  • 2 0
 vamo Chile!
  • 2 0
Thanks, if the snow line is at 1160mtr, then only the top 150 meter of the track would be at risk of snow, the more open, more accessible section. The hard to access and more risky woods section would be below the snow line.
  • 1 0
Anyone knows what happened to Laurie Greenland and Brook Mcdonald?
