Press Release: Prevelo

Prevelo Bikes is the only brand to offer a 16-inch dirt jumper, with 20 and 24-inch also available.

Prevelo Bikes is a family-owned brand dedicated to building high-performance bikes and components made specifically for kids. The brand’s launch of the all-new Bravo Series line of dirt jump bikes is the latest example of the brand’s premium, kid-centric engineering at play. Available in three sizes—Bravo Two (16-inch) Bravo Three (20-inch) and Bravo Four (24-inch)—Prevelo is the first and only brand in the market to offer a 16-inch dirt jumper.

bigquotesThe impetus for designing the Bravo might have been a touch self-serving. When our city got a dirt jump park, we started spending a lot of time there with our two sons. I knew Prevelo could use our kid-focused design ethos and create a quality dirt jumper. I am even more excited we could bring the first ever 16-inch to market. We believe that dirt jump parks are fun places supported by proactive and engaged communities. More importantly, dirt jump parks are a magnet for kids and families—kids have fun, make friends and build riding skills. And parents have options they don’t have with their kids on trails; they can join their kids on the jump line, or spectate while sipping a latte. These parks are truly hubs for building dedicated riders.Jacob Rheuban, Founder

The Prevelo Bravo Series is designed with balanced geometry that’s stable over big jumps, but nimble enough to flow through tight pump tracks. Frames are built from lightweight aluminum that’s easier for small riders to send, and the parts spec is durable enough to take a beating from even the gnarliest little shredders. With tunable air forks, ultra-low and light pivotal seats, hydraulic disc brakes, and Novatec hubs laced to WTB rims, these bikes are built to the high standard that Prevelo is known for.

bigquotesI grew up riding jumps at the local trails I built with my friends. The jumps were as sketchy as the bikes we rode. I’m envious of the bike parks our kids get to ride on, and the progression it’s giving the sport I love. My vision for the Bravo has been to build a bike that allows young riders to take full advantage of what they’re given, and to help progress our sport to levels we never thought possible.Jim Huth, Product Manager

These kids will never get a bmx background if companies keep making bikes like this!

@nickmalysh: Or any type of riding ..BMX's street, Park or race are difficult to master with small bike . they are unforgiving so once youve got the hang of that anything else seems easy .. I only started riding MTB 10 years ago after a lifetime on a BMX and couldn't believe how quickly I took to it .. Same with both my boys .. both grew up riding BMX and can chuck an MTB around like its second nature ... GO BMX !!!!

@stuartd: they are much easier to handle especially when you are small, and there is no stupid components to fall apart

Looks awesome but it's too cheap. You should double the price so everyone KNOWS I love my son.

the market for a 16" dj bike must be truely tiny. My kids grew out of their 16" bikes aged 4, at which point they were getting exactly zero air.

For some reason this made me think your kids were riding little gravel bikes.
  • 18 1
But surely a 16” dirt jump bike is aimed a kids a bit bigger than those riding 16” regular bikes.
  • 7 0
@lewiscraik: ALL decent 16" kids bikes are dirt jump bikes

I mean, the critic in me says they're not much different from a regular premium kids bike, but they're cool nonetheless!

I guess there is a market for everything, this one caters to the 4 year old who need to dial their chainstay length, wants hydraulic brakes, and forged aluminum cranks. A swell as an air fork with lockout and rebound compression. I won't by one for my Kid though until they get specced with flight attendant.

Well, I must be a market for the Flex jet ad that was on top of the page. Outdoor thinks I can afford a $18,000,000 jet. HA!! These bikes on the other hand are far more affordable, so it depends if you have the money I guess

I resent how rad all the bikes my son gets to grow up riding are.
  • 2 0
But you’re still going to get them for him just like us.

i like the derailleur hanger option on the spawn katori, allowed me to throw a saint 10spd on my son's bikes. Made the bikes much more versatile whether on the pumptrack or in the backwoods jump lines; tossed an exterenal pnw dropper on it and can trail bike it all in one bike.

Do kids riding = 20" wheeks really need suspension and disc brakes? Usually at that age: they don't reach heights so high that it requires suspension, BMX do not have suspension and they are usually fine. Kids love coaster brakes.

Meh. It doesn't even have AXS.....
  • 3 0
We’d like to see it with a 210 dropper and full size water bottle before we pass judgement

This is great effort. I've seen way too many kids on dirt jumps and pump tracks with entirely unsuitable supermarket bikes.

that 16inch fork is pretty cool. funny that the brake mounts on it look so massive.

Well, as someone who grew up with free bikes from the side of the road, I'm not against nice kids bikes as long as the kids are grateful to their parents and take care of the bike.

Free bikes from the side of road?
  • 4 0
@IntoTheEverflow: around my area people dump Walmart bikes in front of there houses for free
  • 7 1
@Southeast-Shredder: you sure the kids weren’t coming back for these bikes?
  • 2 0
@dkendy1: they put signs on them that say "free", my dad never took one that didn't have a sign on it
  • 4 2
@Southeast-Shredder Well, as a parent of kids who are growing up with nice kids bikes, I'm not against my kids being ungrateful and not taking care of their bikes.

@Southeast-Shredder: Can confirm, I grew up with free bikes.
Currently theres an early 2000 Cannondale Jekyl, complete with lefty max leaning against a fence surrounding an orchard. Its been there at least 2 weeks now, might fix it up for someone if I need a project

My kid has had nice bikes his whole life. I can’t expect him to be grateful just so I can feel good about myself and so other adults can approve of his personality. What I do appreciate about my kid having nice bikes is he is sending 30ft table tops and descending 10k vertical per day he gets on the bike (and this was just in 4th grade). I am grateful that he loves the mountains and sees MTB as a source of creativity and expression and connection with nature.

I get disapproving tones from people like you all the time. Some people have even been audacious enough to approach my kid, and ask him if he’s grateful I got him his bike. Never mind the fact that he is more of a mountain biker than these adults can ever hope to be.

You can expect kids to have fun, to learn, and to play. Good luck expecting them to be grateful. Gratitude is the privilege of the parent who gets to bike with their kids.

 @IntoTheEverflow: down by the river?
  • 2 0
 @MT36: Spot on!!!
  • 7 0
@MT36: amen. If we're doing bikes, we're doing bikes that fit. Dialed ass cool bikes, just like mine. So we have the best chance of enjoying the activity. Childless knowitalls are dismissed immediately, and parents should know better than to comment on how we're raising our kids.

Imagine holding back for your kids!!! What the actual f*ck!

This is fantastic news. Prevelo makes fantastic bikes.

These are cool, and I applaud decent kid bikes but you're way better off (and will save a little $$) buying your kid a decent bmx if this is your scene.
  • 1 1
VPACE makes the Danny, a nice Dirt Jump bike for kids in 20“ and 24“. It’s also a better deal (at least if you‘re in Europe)

Ignorant question - what is the significant advantage of this $999 16" bike versus the typical 16" bikes you can pick up on the used market for $20?
  • 2 0
I had to ask myself this question many times before purchasing similar bikes (also prevelo) for all my kids in the past. The biggest advantage imo is kid specific hydraulic brakes. Kids ride a lot more confident if they know they can stop. Also, the fork actually works with the weight of a kid, while bikes you get from department stores are practically rigid.

And most importantly, and this was the kicker. I resold the bike 4 years later after 2 kids using it for about 80% of purchase price. So actual cost is less than it seems.

 @nnowak @maestroman21:

OTOH you can see the department store bikes as fuses. Heard that loud klunk? That is the frame/wheel snapping, not your kids collarbones, ankle or...skull
  • 1 0
@maestroman21: resale price is a moot point if you buy second hand in the first place. I bought and sold all my kids bike at pretty much the same price.
  • 2 0
@opignonlibre: couldn't agree more. I went this route with the next 20" Norco fluids but there was nothing available in the 16" that was as high end.

It's not a moot point though, you're still recovering more from a new one than a used one. Moot means it has no meaningful effect.
  • 1 0
@opignonlibre: haha. Sounds like my childhood......both scenarios.
  • 1 3
i actually really like prevelo bikes but this is madness. all their bikes are essentially dirt jumpers already. if a kid/parent really cared they could make them single speed and take off the front brake. and for some reason these bikes cost more than their geared/braked counterparts ?!? and the straight bars looks so lame. any 4 1/2 year old cool enough to jump will know that
  • 2 0
It’s refreshing to see new kids’ bikes with no motor.

Hmm, I want that 16" fork for my son's Stacyc. Only $725 CAD shipped to my door...
