Here's a run down one of my old favourites from when I was was based in Aosta for the race season back in 2010, the "Rientro" track which takes you from Pila Bikepark back down to town in Aosta and descends 1100 meters over 4.7km. It was running rough as it end of bike park season and this is a run on the way home after a big day riding.
What amazes me about pro riders is how conposed they are and how well they are using the right riding technique during long runs at warp speed. It's not the shear speed, but the ability to maintain it after getting tired.
Ah, the amazing "Rientro Pila-Aosta" such a wild and amazing track! Can't stop laughing at the fact that my PR is around 25 minutes and to do it I was almost dying or going to explode at every turn! ahahahahahha (ok, I may have stopped some times, but still...)
I rode there 12 years ago and that brought back some arm pump memories. You always had to end the day at Pila with a few runs left in you to do this run. The ridge under the gondola and the switchback section are really epic parts. Less 'natural' now than it used to be but not necessarily a bad thing to have it taped and signs for hazards.
If you ever get to the Dolimites, try Tutti Frutti at Canazei. Definitely an awesome track of similar length with a ridge run start then some brilliant sections through the woods. Pila-Aosta was my fave until I did this track....
Hmmmmm I dont know about that. Maybe its the Shore in me but that track seemed like a smoothed out highway with no steeps, sketchy sections, rock faces etc. The beginning first few sections of most DH courses are kinda smoothed out - seemed like this track was like that the whole way down.
@lastminutetech: I think Wyns making it look smooth more than anything. It’s a while since I rode it but I just remember it being epic, not overly steep but just great fun and super long.
Is it me or did there used to be more lines after he hits that jump with the photographer at 5.22? I seem to remember it staying high on that ridge and splitting into multiple dusty ruts, so much fun everyone racing each other down and then getting funnelled into one exit line ha.

Such a sick run Wyn!!!
