This week on the Downtime Podcast, I’m joined by Jack Moir. Jack has had some super tough times, but he’s also shown that he’s more than capable of mixing it up at the very top of the sport. We chat about his career so far, including multiple collarbone breaks, developing the 29er with Intense that he went on to take to 2nd place at Fort William World Cup, the challenges of changing from the Intense team to… well… the new Intense team, and his recent move to Enduro World Series where he’ll be riding for Canyon Factory Racing. There’s also some surf chat thrown in for good measure, so hit play below and give this episode a listen.

 great podcast, i really cant wait to see more of jack in the world cup. i was at that 2017 mont sainte anne rain race and we all thought it was over until jack laid down an absolute heater and lit the fire for the top guys. that day the only riders who could get anywhere near the times set before the storm were gwin, hart, bruni, brosnan, and moir. cool to see him racing ews but he has a lot more to show us on the downhill circuit and i wanna see it!

 I agree @Albatrosse I think that Canyon will be good for him on the DH side as well. Hopefully we get to seem him smashing it at both.

 Great podcast. It was really interesting to hear him talk about comparing the 2018 bike to the 2019 bike mid-season. Same bike but totally different array of components, which didn't seem to work well for him. Main takeaway is the bike was fine but what was surrounding it wasn't. Tough at that level to get to the starting gate and feel like you're already at a disadvantage. Not really confidence-inspiring.

 Yeah I was really surprised by the time differences he was talking about there!

 Thanks @barbarosza I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've wanted to interview Jack for ages, was hoping to do it in person, but couldn't wait!

 I remember I was shooting Vital Raws a while back at the Aus Nat DH series. it was the first round of the season at Mt Taylor, Vic. Jack had signed with Intense when he was wearing POC clothing. Being a lanky man myself, I was completely blown away with his speed and confidence and ability to throw a bike around so easily. Such a good rider and such a legend. Hope he has a big bright future of racing

 That was well worth the listen - awesome insights into the reality of the sponsors minefield.

 Can't wait to see Jack in EWS!

 Seems like injuries have held Jack back as kind of a sleeper talent. Kind of a bummer - would love to see him in the mix at EWS and downhill, injury-free.

 Great guy, huge Jack fan. Anyone have any thoughts on the team that strung him along before Canyon stepped in? Pretty shady way to treat a person.

 yeah must ve been shitty , perhaps YT ? I have no clue so I dont want to state it. But they do shady bussiness so Im temped to throw that here. Again,have no clue whatsoever.

 @barbarosza:
Genuine question: what shady business do YT do?
  • 1 0
 Yeah I wonder that too. Cannondale? Or did they stop the DH bike dev earlier?
  • 1 0
 @alexhyland: Cannondale had a team in 2019 and they did not continue in 2020 so that seems like a good guess. I don’t think it’s YT, their team strategy was pretty clear with new riders. I guess it could have been an all new factory team that didn’t get off the ground, there are plenty of manufactures that don’t have top tier teams.
