Update:
Pauline Ferrand-Prevot shared in an Instagram update that in her fall, she hit her face on a course marker and her bike saddle hit her abdomen, which interfered with her breathing. While we still haven't heard an official diagnosis, she does not appear to have any major injuries. We hope to see her back on the bike in the next couple of days.

Pauline Ferrand-Prevot crashed out of the short track race in Nove Mesto. She was in the lead group, but lost control in a muddy jump section and fell hard. Although she initially tried to continue riding, she did not finish the race and left the venue in an ambulance. Based on the information we have right now, it seems she was taken to the hospital as a precaution, and we will likely see her on the start line for Sunday's XCO race.

The reigning world champion had an excellent short track race last week in Albstadt, overtaking solo attacker Linda Indergand on the last lap to take the win. She also said that she had hoped to win the short track this week in Nove Mesto, especially after placing second in both short track races at this venue last year.

We have reached out to Pauline and will update this article as more information becomes available.

Why don't i ever look that good after a crash?

That's implying you looked that good before a crash.

At least she has a good looking doctor.

The riders obviously accept or even embrace the challenges and dangers of the course itself, but some of the course markers terrify me. So often they’re sturdy wooden stakes, usually at a height that looks perfect for impaling a rider unlucky enough to fall on them.

Exactly, pure amateur sh£t from the UCI commissaries to allow such nonsense.

Oof, I had a crash in the midst of a collegiate cross-country race. Hit my lower ribs/abdomen on the end of a handlebar. (thank god for bar plugs) That combined with my high-heart rate made it seem like I couldn't breathe. Her hand is right where I got hit so I imagine she was in similar pain, and yet she tried to KEEP RIDING.

These riders are tough like action movie protagonists. Some famous XC examples, without even discussing road riders riding multiple weeks of a grand tour on broken bones:

Pauline Ferrand-Prevot Finished the race after putting her face straight into the rocks at Nove Mesto in 2016.
Emily Batty finished the race with a cut so deep it required surgery.
Mathias Flückiger kept riding after attempting to remove a tree. Arborists described the technique as "unconventional" and "not recommended".

Looked to me that she may have fallen on one of the triangular trail markers. Hope it's not serious!

They should have used tape guy instead of those markers.

The section of the course where she went down was so greasy; I am surprised there were not more crashes. Hope she is back for Sunday!

Heal up and best of luck on Sunday!!

Would it be impolite to mention that your eyebrow game is strong?

Here come the DVs.....

 That section should be notorious:
In the first short track race last fall 2 or more women crashed, Eva Lechner broke the stem off her bike, and Avancini crashed in the mens short track.
Nobody did as bad as PFP through.
I hope she didn't jury herself tio much and recovers quickly.

Ugh. That’s such a shame all around. Hope it’s just precautionary, but if not she will be sorely missed.

I looked at the crash. As everything Pauline does, the technique was excellent and the blue barrier with sharp edges is likely why she is hurt at all. The good fortune is that she should be able to heal safely and contend for Olympic gold as the favorite. When she comes back I would expect fresh and better than ever! Heal thoroughly.

[Note: the "ear is missing comment" is instinctive to shift focus and cheer people up after they have fallen and are struggling with disappointment and an uncertain future. Constructive in person, but perhaps inappropriate on-line. The method is 1) Cheer up to get a smile, 2) present go-no-go evidence that communicates safe path forward.]

only I thought that here it is very easy to fall and the polin immediately falls. The place really disposes to fall.

Looks like she found the silver lining haha. Quite a bump on the side of her face.

She could be a neck brace model.

That No Curves guys is definitely to blame here. Overly-distracting tape job! But seriously, hope to see her on the start line Sunday.
