Everything is about speed and sports photography is no different. Fast focus, fast, continuous shooting and a fast processor can help you capture those moments at the blink of an eye. The LEICA M6 is manual. The working speed results from your own dexterity. Adjust exposure, focus, wind the film and release and repeat again, and again. But it's not only the fast motion which requires rapid action, it's also the fleeting moments which come and go and could be lost forever through inattention.

You can count yourself lucky that from time to time you can take the DSLR (digital reflex camera) to get a reference. Using a DSLR will certainly sharpen your training curve and you can practice pan-shots, time exposures, and continual shooting. With the manual LEICA M6, you often feel like a pilot during blind flight relying on the intuition, “the force” at your side. In any case the LEICA M6 is always on hand and on call.

Actually the front wheel should be touching the line.
Actually, the front wheel should be touching the line. But give me a break. I just can't compete with my Canon doing twelve frames per second.

And anyway the digital photography played a very important role. I practiced a lot with the DSLR before transferring these techniques to the analog LEICA.

Leogang 1/15 sec with manual Leica M6. One shot pan. Even if you're using a DSLR with servo focus and setting for continuous shooting, pan-shots are bold. Concerning the shot from my LEICA I seem to have used all the luck for several years in advance.

Here the manual shift in focus didn t work fast enough. Actually Nigel is the centre of the action.

Wrong focus but sorry the security guy was way cooler than Loic Bruni at that moment.
Focus shifting once again. Sorry but at that moment the security guy was way cooler than Loic Bruni.

When there is light in the woods even 1/1000s shutter speed can work out. The sun spotlights Sam Hill at Val di Sole.

Completely trivial picture: multiple knotted barrier tape. It is only a warning not to go too close to the course tape looking like this. It's something like a safety net for riders flying out of the track. Shooting trivial photos is part of digital photography. But when using a LEICA it becomes fun.

As mentioned prior, sometimes it's the trivial shots that tell a story, too.

This is wonderful. The self narrated journey through the photo book gave just the right amount of explanation to the images. Stevie was a highlight. Well done.
