Apr 20, 2021
by Alicia Leggett

Dylan Stark's heavy BMX and MTB edit came out in February and was absolutely worth the $3 it cost at the time, but now it's available for free on YouTube.

Oh I'm gonna sound like such an old man here but I really hope that, given they were charging people for the clip originally, they paid to fix whoever's roof they f*cked up at 4:19...
  • 108 26
Every skateboarder just laughed at this
  • 24 2
first moment i paused to check out the comments was 4:19 to try and find out whose roof he f*cked up there
  • 99 8
@Tacodip420: I'm sure they did... And when I was a teenager (as a skateboarder) I probably would have done too. But then you grow up and realize that stuff costs money and repairing a roof is a) expensive, and b) a ball ache. I'd be pretty pissed if that happened to my roof for the sake of someone's short bike film, and even more so to find out that whoever made it was asking people to pay for said film because of the time and money it cost to make (you know, like a roof does)

 Vandalism is never cool.
  • 95 17
I am pretty sure he commented on the original thread that it was a condemned building.
  • 174 1
 @brianpark: Condemned to shred.
  • 142 0
Nicest looking condemned building I've ever seen.
  • 90 0
@brianpark: they sure sounded like they wanted to get out of there in a hurry after getting the clip
  • 12 6
I thought the same thing! hahaha. Happy to hear it was a condemned building. DESTRUCTION!!! 666!!!!! METAL!!!
  • 32 1
Dylan does roofing for a fvkin living - believe me, it was an inside job or a tear-down.

"Hello, can I speak to the manager of roofing?"
  • 64 1
@MTB-RVA: Lol a condemned building where the landscapers are still hard at work cutting shrubs into cute little boxes.
  • 14 1
@suspended-flesh: I'm always surprised when people that shred this hard rely on their hands for work. WTF do you do if you break your femur and you are a roofer? I have a desk job so I basically just need one hand to work.
  • 32 0
@topherdagopher: Maybe they condemned it after a mountain biker smashed the roof in?

Since this is cali he will not be shooted or so that easily, however for anyone who is violating private property and causing vandalism consequences could be literally fatal
  • 11 0
@nickmalysh: You can't just walk up and shoot someone because they are on private property. You have to trespass them and even then, if they refuse, you cannot shoot them unless they pose an imminent threat to your life.

As a homeowner, I hope they see the video and sue him for a whole new roof. Tile roofs can be expensive as hell to fix.
  • 54 11
@Explodo: As a homeowner, I think it was rad.
  • 31 0
condemned? I don't usually holler "LETS GO LETS GO" after doing anything to a condemned bldg.
  • 5 4
 @Explodo: that’s very clearly not a home
  • 22 3
@kleinblake: It was obviously not a home, but someone owns it and has to pay for a roof. My status as homeowner is meant that I understand how much it sucks to have to pay for a new roof....even more so when you have to pay not because of a weather event or age, but because some person decided that you needed to pay for a new roof just so they could have a spot of fun.
  • 34 26
@Explodo: It looks like an old mormon church building, so it was paid for by a group that sits on at least 100 billion that they conned out of their members by functionally charging for access to rituals supposedly required in order to be with your family after you die. I wouldn't feel bad about it.
  • 2 0
@HB208: I'm not saying anyone should, what I'm saying is that there a lot of people who can non adequately react on trespassing and property damaging, so the person who is doing stunt can face person who do not give a s* about that
  • 14 0
@datmadatma: Looks like SoCal. That building will likely burn down before enough precipitation falls to cause any water damage.
  • 3 1
@mrpfp: How could hell be any worse? Than the Inland Empire...
  • 1 0
 ha! exactly my thought.
  • 2 0

  • 3 0
@JEDDE: That drop was gnarly as hail!
  • 4 3
The spot is on the southernmost end. if you look close the tiles are a different colour. Looks like they’ve been replaced. @Squirrel-155:
  • 8 3
@datmadatma: I know some guys who ride bikes (in suit and tie) that can help you out with that cynical perspective! Wink

@adrennan: this is what happenes wen you get bmx rider on the mtb bike and put the rest to bad rep!!!!
  • 4 0
@nickmalysh: "shooted" Are you sure you have the right flag?
  • 22 17
The Mormon cult has more money than god. Who gives a shit.
  • 34 2
@dragonbones: The spot where he dropped was pretty clearly on the east end of the building going north. The aerial image is from 2018, so I don't think that a repair would show yet. Further, his original comment was that the building was "abandoned" and in a "bad part of town". He also said that they were "shingles" when they were concrete tiles, so he is definitely not a roofer (like was stated earlier in this thread). These concrete tiles can be difficult to match if the original profile is no longer produced. Tiles in good condition should last a minimum of 50 years and these looked pretty pristine. At a minimum they did several thousand dollars worth of damage to this roof, and I sincerely doubt it was an abandoned building as they have "open" hours listed on google maps. Dick move to vandalize a building, regardless of who the owner is.
  • 12 11
@Lineofbestfit: God's insurance will cover an Act of Dylan if that's the case.
  • 19 9
@Squirrel-155: I literally go to this church and pay tithing to this church and if this is how my money is being used then holy crap I'll pay more

also i guess it was kinda disrespectful but I'm sure he would have done it at any other suitable building so whatever
  • 20 5
@speedfreek I'm glad you said it. As to why he doesn't have more sponsors, the dudes like 30 and acting like a 15-year-old hooligan. Even the BMX sponsors won't touch him. I suspect he had the talent but didn't do the work necessary to take it to the next level like Zink, Semenuk, Macaskill, etc.
  • 13 5
Mormon pockets are deep, and God would have wanted us to shred the holy roof.
  • 1 3
@Lineofbestfit: wrong. East and west don’t have peaks above the roofline to drop down to. Only spot that move was possible is the south end.
  • 7 0

I know a million bmxers that would ride your bathtub if they could get away with it, me included. Nobody wants to damage property especially if your relying on it not breaking to survive but it’s part of the sport. Bikes and property destruction go hand in hand whenever it’s tearing up a rut or smashing a roof tile. Outlaw 4 life.
  • 12 15
@thenotoriousmic: I take it a lot of older mountain bikers getting into the sport didn't grow up street skateboarding, BMXing, snowboarding, etc. Probably why they get so upset about this sort of thing.
  • 17 6
@HB208: "it's just the culture bro" is the dumbest argument in existence. If that's the culture, then the culture needs to grow up with the sport.

I think it's more that most MTB'rs are more likely to be homeowners than bmxers (as a generality) Replacing a roof is like $10K easy...so...when it's someone else's problem...sure, jack it up. But once you yourself have to start paying them bills...it's a whole other story.

Sponsorship is all about marketing. Look at Wyn Masters; he does the same thing manuals and wheelies week after week but has a huge following on Insta and FB so he does really well with sponsorship. Not to take anything away from him, he works really hard and is always on social media. I reckon some people just don’t want to or cant do so don’t get the level of sponsorship

I've always wondered why riders would chase sponsors instead of creating premium content to sell. I'm pretty sure he's better off with his $3 video parts marketed to a 100k instagram audience than he'd be if he was stuck in a contract that told him what to do and what not to do.
  • 5 1
@DylanH93: I’ve suffered through at times for the same reason. Trail video previews are hugely valuable if you’re considering driving to ride something.

My problem isn’t so much his riding it’s that everything he says seems contrived and calculated. When he says that something was gnarly, it feels more like a computer analyzed the trail ahead of time to find all the places that could be said and he’s just playing them back on cue for the video. Never heard him say anything interesting.

And honestly, I’m not sure how on earth someone who rides so much could be so mediocre. Maybe his appeal is making dentists feel better about their riding?
  • 4 0
@Blackhat: oh right, yeahhhh. Etc he’s like a shit soundboard with a mediocre grasp on how to ride a bike but some how has like ten times the following of say 50:01 or someone like Jeff Kendal weed who basically does the same thing but way better in every single way. I don’t get it.
  • 2 0
@thenotoriousmic: I fully concur! And, there are a shiat ton of dentists w/ $10k plus bikes that eat up the BKXC stuff like candy. Lots of free time in between patients to watch Youboob.
  • 2 0
@Blackhat: lmao I know what you mean. He seems like a nice guy but f*ck if I had to guess anyone is actually a robot I'd be guessing him. Or like some sort of possible psycho haha! Definitely nice checking out a trail preview for something new. Also helps avoid any unexpected shit that might catch you up.
  • 5 2
Good vid, good riding. As a carpenter, I resent the roof damage. Not cool to ride on tile roofs. Concrete tile roofs are very long lived and demonstrate a commitment to lowering the carbon foot print of a building by not needing to replace a roof every 15-30 years. Breaking one up is a shitty move.
