Awesome! So refreshing to see proper fast riders not having to skid and flick everywhere to try and create some drama in a video. So balanced and effortless and the riding does the talking
  • 25 2
On sanctioned trails too. You'd think that pro athletes are banned from filming on legal trails these days and are bonused based on how much dirt they can fling off the trail and into the forest. Just needs some X-ups and bow legged tables and all will be right with the world Big Grin
  • 3 0
@wallheater: or some bow legged X-ups aka: David Bowie’s.
  • 11 5
The same guy that lays big roosty skids, would yell at old man on E-bike puttering out on a trail. This was a great unadulterated riding video! So smooth!
  • 2 3
 Are you saying Semenuk ?
  • 10 0
@wallheater: border line sanctioned... ;-) I spot at least two shots, not really on the maps :-p
  • 8 0
Proper fast mtbing. Not this bmx in a forest stuff! Love it.
  • 1 0
@cervo: There's definitely a few duffy lines in there that certainly can't be common knowledge for the north shore.
  • 1 3
What’s with all the hate? Almost like you don’t know it’s about having fun?!

Just wanted to take a minute to say thanks for the comments and support, it means a lot. To those of you asking about my bike, I did debate riding my DH bike for this project but ultimately felt that the Slayer would be a better fit for the trails and a more accurate representation of how I like to ride The Shore. I built it up custom for this shoot with a lot of DH DNA- coil shock, no dropper post, 36 tooth chainring, big tires ect. The end result is quite the weapon! Big thanks to everyone that helped me with the build.
  • 1 0
Sick edit @tvanderham Wish I could ride my slayer that quick. Any info on the coil on the rear? Stock fox tune or custom?
  • 3 0
No Dropper? Nice. This was built for a purpose!
  • 4 0
For me that is the perfect mtb edit! Trail bike Shredding down natural(ish) tracks, no gimmicks. All mtb’ers will recognise how great the riding is, no need for flicks and skids to try to add to the drama. Great filming and editing. Great sound, not spoilt by over-loud freehub (just my opinion). Big thanks!
  • 1 0
looks like the suspension was perfectly tuned. awesome riding.
  • 2 0
What the hell!! Love your style since Collective and never thought you are so damn fast in such a rough terrain!
  • 1 0
hey thanx for keeping on inspiring us, you got more than our full respect, saludos desde Chile!!
  • 13 0
@thebradjohns: the tune was custom as we don't spec a Slayer with the DHX2 but it was based off of our stock tune for the Float X2. For reference I run a 475 spring in the DHX2 or 170 PSI if I've got the Float X2 on the same bike.
  • 4 0
Keep shredding Vanderham! Been watching u from the start- and we all appreciate how down to earth and responsive to our comments you are.
  • 3 0
Do you want to race Enduro? If so, do it! All them boyz need a little tune up.
  • 2 0
@tvanderham thanks for some more inspiration. I think you and @jessemelamed should do a "Pinkbike Hot Lap" together.
  • 1 0
Congrats @tvanderham ! Another inspiring video like every vid i saw from you since "Ride to the Hills". Distinctive and unique Style. There is still no other segment then yours from Ride to the Hills that says to myself "Go out riding!"

Trail, Bike and Rider -> Perfect Match!

Is your nickname "The Kid" still in use Wink ?
  • 1 0
Man! your style is proppely shaped through the years, like not so many other riders out there, also that style on bigger jumps (not here) are awesome, clean, effective! I know some of that trail in the vid, and some of the lines on small bike at those speeds? PRECISION!
  • 1 0
@tvanderham: What an excellent piece of riding and cinematography! Makes me want go out and ride my Slayer, but...

Still haven't finished building it! Can I go as far as asking how much you weigh? I see quite some people struggling with getting the spring rate right on the Slayer first time 'round. I haven't mounted my SLS spring yet so I can still swap it if need be ;-)

Thanks!
  • 1 0
That was MINT !! ........what knee pads are you wearing ??
  • 1 0
I wish I could ride half as well as TV. Sooooo good
  • 40 0
Finally a video of someone riding rocks and roots. Buffed out trails with no features are fine but its so boring... Give us roots and rocks! Proper tech riding... even if he did take "Florida Lines" a few times...
  • 1 12
Line at 1:18 made me cringe and wasn't even worth being in the video.
  • 35 0
His brakes pads must last a while... I think he only touched them once ... Smooth as ever...
  • 1 1
his tires must last forever also.
  • 2 1
@imho4ep: Negative. Think cornering speed and lean angle vs. soft side knobs.
  • 2 0
Best style in the game. That was sooo sick
  • 29 0
If you've ever dreamed of being trail side to watch or ride with Thomas Vanderham, this is your 100 second chance. Front row seats, compliments of Rupert Walker. Closest thing to actually being there, i've ever seen, since being there!
  • 1 0
Amazing pictures as always Sterling! Your slideshows on the Collective and Roam dvds have always been an inspiration for me. In these days of video streaming (so no bonus features on a dvd) is there still a place for these slideshows over (Phontaine) music? Would love to see that again!

Its a wonder this guy can ride at all: He is wearing gloves and didn't hit a shop and showing a fresh brewed coffee, or even slowly push his bike up a section of trail.

With all his short comings - This guy can ride fast and with style.
I wonder if we now see riders with no droppers.
  • 1 0
and on those silly little wheels no less!!! imagine, it doesn't even compute!
  • 1 0
 @rsidedown- yep!
  • 15 0
finally!! redbull videos on youtube player!
  • 14 0
That looked fast. Yep, want to go riding now...
  • 9 0
TV + Sterling = Decade plus of awesome pics

Dream - Have Sterling take just one cool riding shot of me to hang in the garage. TV must have hundreds.
  • 9 0
Huck to drift .....we're not worthy , we're not worthy , we're not worthy !
  • 9 1
Jaw on the floor... bejesus Thomas V. That was incredbile. I think you just gave Bryn Atkinson a run for his cornering money. Without speeding up the vid Razz
  • 7 0
WOW! Anyone who has ridden those trails (and a few of those sections) knows that carrying that speed it nutty!! Well done TV!
  • 7 2
Vanderham on a trail bike? That's it, Freeride is dead.

Jokes aside, always thought Thomas had some sort of anti-gravity field around him. It's amazing how he seems to float over the gnar.
  • 15 0
 I wouldn’t call a slayer a trail bike.
  • 3 0
The Slayer is deff not a "trail bike" in the traditional sense. More like "freeride lite bike" haha.
  • 2 1
@vtbert: I was tempted to put "on a single crown fork", but I thought "trail bike" would have more impact ;-).
  • 1 1
Enduro bikes nowadays has as much plow as DH bikes... it only will depend of the gradient of the mountain to swop bike/geometry...
  • 1 0
@OlSkoolJake: New category/standard "FreeLite Bike" Noooooo!!!!
  • 8 0
Making it look easy out there TV! Amazing work boys.
  • 6 0
11/10 to everyone involved! The sound of Thomas's tires will never get old. That was some class drone flying on Incline, Rupert.
  • 5 0
There is a bunch of fast and 'go big' dudes these days, but having style is a different game. Mr Vanderham is still on top of that game.
  • 4 0
Just when you think you're getting faster on your bike, Thomas drops a new video and makes you feel like a fat circus monkey on a tricycle! Spectacular video, superb riding and amazing sound.
  • 6 0
I wish we could see TV at some EWS races. We know he’s got the speed...
  • 2 0
 That's what I thought man.
  • 2 0
looks, just like when I ride --- except about I am about 10 x slower, my wheels don't leave the ground much, I flail around on the slightest of bumps.
Ok, all that is really left is I ride a mtn bike and sometimes on the shore.

I wonder what it would feel like to hit the trails that fast. Do they get smoother?
  • 4 0
He always had a knack for making it look so easy! Happy to see him shredding again...
  • 4 0
Awesome edit. Love just raw sounds, no music, and fast ass ultra smoove riding
  • 1 0
Wish there was a video on how this video was made..... Would love to know how many hours of actual trail time this took. Camera guy sets up. TV drops in. Blasts past the camera. Stops. They review the video. TV goes back to rest or they continue to the next section. Repeat. Stellar video.
  • 2 0
Quite a few different trails from different North Van areas put together to make this one. I'd guess not even all filmed on the same day.
  • 2 0
Boost spacing and 15mm front axles have progressed the sport so much, its amazing how fast it can make a rider like T.V. that has very little talent able to ride so fast and smooth. BADASS, Mr Vanderham!
  • 2 0
Vanderham... pffffff.... More like VanderBAM!!! Come along way from the Seycove days. Definitely one of the best segments of riding I've ever seen. You make those sections look easy.
  • 4 0
 That place looks phenomenal...
  • 17 1
Seymour sucks tell your friends. Old Buck/Boogie Nights is waste of time. No fun.
  • 11 3
@dglass: Pretty sure this trail is Half Nelson
  • 4 3
@Loche: Parts of several trail in the vid, mainly Seymour; Incline, Pingu, Boogie nights.

Don't think any half nelson but could be wrong
  • 10 1
@Loche: Thought I saw some crank it up in there too...
  • 2 3
 @Loche: Nope.
  • 2 2
 @Loche: Nooop, all Seymour
  • 1 1
@lastminutetech: not all Seymour at all, but sure ok
  • 3 0
@Loche: This went over so many local's heads it's not even funny any more
  • 2 0
 @dglass:

Your right Boss!
  • 1 0
@connormacleodvideo: some Cypress in there as well? Meat Sweats?
  • 1 0
 @ship-it-fed-ex: MORE DIRT!
  • 4 1
 Awesome.

And all without needless thrashing of berms to make him look "cooler". Take note, kids.
  • 3 0
That's one HELL of a trail too. Wow.
  • 2 0
I'm sad its winter where I'm at. You can't ride fast, even with studded tires...unless you have a death wish.
  • 2 0
TV killing it as usual! Love watching his riding. Takes the rough and smoothes it out. Thank you!
  • 1 0
BRAPPP! TV rides those trails with more flow and style than Big WIllie Style
  • 1 0
Helmet on, feet on, flat out! Love the natural sound of the bike moving at warp speed through gnarly terrain
  • 1 0
Soo... that was one of the best edits of aggressive badass trail riding. Can we get more videos like that monthly.
  • 2 0
 Shreddy! Nice filming and Riding.
  • 3 2
Love it but still nostalgic for the days when “the shore” included some crazy drops, skinnies and ladders
  • 2 0
Gotta turn on the TV casting app for this one on the big screen
  • 3 0
Now I want a new bike.
  • 2 0
I could watch 1,000 seconds of that.
  • 1 0
Is that a Rocky Mountain Slayer? Love mine! However how do I get a coil spring on the back? I have a 2017.
  • 1 0
Fox make the DHX2 in 230x65mm sizing which is what the Slayer has. Rock Shox have the Super Deluxe Coil as well. Not sure about Cane Creek DBCoil or other options but I'm sure they could make them if you asked.
  • 2 0
Dump question time? What trails are they?
  • 2 0
 Good Lord. That was phenomenal.
  • 2 0
whoa. keep on keepin' on. much skill and music to my ears

Solid calculated riding, sick!

This video feels like the "golden age" of mountain bike videos for me. 2009-2012 my favorite films were made
  • 2 0
Now that is how it should be done! Both the riding and making a video.
  • 2 0
Rapid, so fast, so smooth and no 50:vegan skids shit.
  • 1 0
For Sale next day: Lightly used lady ridden slayer, never crashed on, only mellow trail riding
  • 1 0
Isn't this the exact trail he shreds with Sam Hill in Seasons? They might have changed something in the Matrix...
  • 1 0
It's refreshing to see some actual raw trail riding! Kudos to everyone involved in this edit... more please!!
  • 1 0
Wow. Recognized a couple of those trails and couldn't dream of riding them at that speed!

Love his wife so much. That crazy pop TV has always had off the smallest little bump!!
  • 3 0
Wow!! That's a crazy typo! Sorry Thomas!! Meant to say style, no idea how the phone auto corrected that. Any more please feel free to delete or edit my comment. No idea how I do. Apologies again!!
