Morpheus - Name the Prototype DJ Bike Contest
Over the past 12 months, Morpheus Cycles has been working diligently to bring its dirt jump concept to life. Now, after a full season of testing by Anthony Messere and Mitch Chubey, riding on the FMBA world tour, Morpheus has put their feedback and knowledge into creating a second generation dirt jump prototype. The production version of the bike is set to debut in January, 2012. The only problem - the bike has no name.

Morpheus Cycles and Pinkbike have teamed up to provide Pinkbike users with the opportunity to name this groundbreaking bike. Since its inception, there has been tons of controversy over the design and relevance of the new technology incorporated into this frame. Any and all (publicly decent) suggestions are welcome. In addition to your valuable comments, Morpheus will be checking all posts to pick the most appropriate name for the new bike.

Anthony Messere and Mitch Chubey have been using the TRD rear end without issue throughout last season. Morpheus will have a 14.2'' - 15.8'' chainstay in production while allowing most 2.5'' tires to fit. It uses 45* angles and microscopic teeth to provide more stability and alignment than ever before. Try aligning your horizontal dropout down to the millimeter as you can with the TRD system.

New seat stays and CNC - dropout bracket increase stiffness by over 30%. TRD still provides a relatively supple ride without sacrificing lateral stiffness. The CNC’d yolk incorporates the ISCG 05 tabs into the design of the frame. Less welding means less weight.

The prototype uses a unique looking Telescopic Rear Dropout to adjust the the chain stay length

Morpheus is the god of dreams one of the many sons of the night (namely, Nyx), according to the Greek mythology, he was the one responsible for human representations and he specialized in the dreams of warlords and kings. He had two brothers (or helpers) named Phobetros and Phantasos. The first was responsible of animals and the latter, for the representation of innate objects. It's also important to mention, that Morpheus' dreams where not random; his role was to convey messages from the other gods through sleep.
I really don't think that Morpheus had The Matrix in mind, when naming their company.

or the morpheus floater. because it will be floating in the air a lot. but also because a floater as a person is someone who doesn't STAY in one place for very long. And this bike's STAYS aren't very long/are adjustable.

Don't get me wrong, I think the name is awsome,and ultra unique, the issue is just the baggage that is entailed with it. Some salamander species use tail autotomy to escape predators. The tail will drop off and wriggle around for a little while, and the salamanders will either run away or stay still enough to not be noticed while the predator is distracted. Salamanders routinely regenerate complex tissues. Within only a few weeks of losing a piece of limb, a salamander perfectly reforms the missing structure.
Not the most appropriate description it being said to avoid things, but I love Salamanders and the TRD system reminds me of these slick amphibians. Also, if you ever happen to seriously f*ck up, you can always swap the system out for a new one!
HARE is one of the fastest animals which have great ability to jump. They can run up to 45mph/hr.
BHARAL live in Himalayan and one of the best jumpers among animals. They're adapted to jump from cliff to cliff and hill to hill.

So, this bike is molded with new technology and parts of a different kind- it has morphed from what was to what will be the new design in DJ bikes. It's beautiful (woman) it's agressive (lion) it's lightweight and strong (Wings-as a bird) This bike is comprised of the elements it represents; Sphynx should be it's name.

It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self.

In newer Greek language the word ONAP(όhnar) changed into ΟΝΕΙΡΟ(όhneeroh).
I think thats smart because you use use Greek characters in Latin alphabet, it's another catchy title associated with Morpheus which was appearing in many human morphs, into peoples dreams (ΌΝΕΙΡΑ=ΌΝΑΡ=dream)
Using the correct font you would be able to have: the "i" appear as an "r" when read upside down. The "y" appear as and "h" when read upside down. The "a" appear as an "e" when read upside down. "s","n","d","o", and "w" all lend them selves perfectly to appear as "s", "u", "p", "o", and "M".
That way no matter if the bike is rubber side down or not....you would read "Morpheus"

Some possible names for the Morpheus concept DJ bike are:
Isorropia - The Greek word for Balance
Phobetor - An ancient Greek figure that appeared in Dreams as Animals or Monsters meaning that every other DJ bike has bad dreams about this bike
Knossos - Large Palace on Crete (Chosen as it sounds really cool with Morpheus - "Morpheus Knossos")
In the end even the word "MINE" is very nice, visualy, is short, easy to memorize and pronounce, lot of graphic combinations between the letters and a fun/simple meaning.
Have a good work reading and choosing between all of these.

This new bike should be able to represent the rider. The skill, the feel, the appearance, the good and the bad side of the rider. It is all about the rider, the "Daemon" is the catalyst.

Hope that pinkbike and Morpheus like the names I thought would be good for it
Its the first word I thought off after seeing the frame. However, it also describes the addition or "Sickness" we all have to this whole bike riding thing. I'm 32, and my life is still consumed by riding my bikes; researching product, building ramps and trails, dreaming and riding, riding and filming, bikes, bikes, bikes. And when it comes to DJ, it truly is a "Sickness", before I even heal from an injury, I'm already trying to get back on the bike to finish a trick. Messere's riding style, as many on here have stated before, well "SICKNESS."
With different chain stays and frame tubing it certainly looks weird and crazy compared to the normal dj frame.
But on top of that "goon" according to Webster can also mean a man hired to terrorize or eliminate opponents, so replace man with bike and its a bike thug!
why ? because the saw reminds me of bulding and wooden jumps and structure, and the dust reminds me of the dirt
and when you work with wood you get sawdust, its that simple
I also find that the word SAW is aggressive and when you ride you want to rip

Nemesis was the spirit of divine retribution against those who succumb to hubris (pride). We all know if you get to cocky, big jumps will not hesitate to put you in your place. I'm old school and think that cars/bikes/boats/etc. should be named after girls, and Nemesis is a goddess. Also, the word nemesis is derived from the Greek word nemein, which mean to give what is due. Any dirt jumper knows you have to pay your dues if you want to play.

The MORPHEUS Morningstar - the morningstar was Morpheus' weapon, a chain with weighted spiked heads. Very fitting as I am sure this bike will be piloted to conquest many times, slaying all competition who dare 'dream' of victory.

The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self.
You can't avoid thinking of Laurence Fishburne with a pince nez and trenchcoat when you hear the name "Morpheus," which admittedly is how I got around to thinking up the name Sentinel, but this bike, like the true definition of the word, would be a guardian or maverick of the trails, the street, skatepark, or where ever else you ride!
I also think the name goes along with others in the new Morpheus lineup, it's easy to pronounced, there's no other bikes sharing the namesake at the moment, and it'd look awesome on the proto's top tube!

CONTRARY
Rules were meant to be broken and the new Contrary dirt jumper from Morpheus does just that. The Contrary defiantly utilizes proprietary patents developed within the company to reach new heights previously thought impossible. The Telescopic Rear Dropout (TRD) allows the rider to adjust the chainstay length a whopping 1.6 inches! While at the same time the TRD provides a relatively supple ride without sacrificing lateral stiffness.
Non-conformity is the only path to advancing the sport and the design team has produced a bike design that leads the way. On the Contrary, the rules don’t apply.

Morpheus Exodus (A departure of a large number of people.) for obvious reasons the bikes design is a departure from the norm and may cause a large amount of people to re-think their desings and draw a large amount of people to it as well.
Guyz, I know there is 2500+ props, but can't you be a little serious ? It just mean that you tried to be lucky to win a bike and you don t realy care about findinf an original and cool name.
seth is an ancient egyptian good's name. it was a god of the desert, storms, and foreigners. In later myths he was also the god of darkness, and chaos.
i am sure morpheus will cause some chaos with this frame (regarding to some posts above it is the case already :-) ) and other bikecompanys will be in the dark because of the unique frame design.

- Trying to use a name that fits with the other products in their range. Obviously cannot be sure how the original names were chosen however Aegeon is taken from Shakespere's "Comedy of Errors". Seems to some up wat it can be like practicing on your dirt bike but also sits well amongst the other bike names: Skyla, Loki, "Aegeon" and their meanings/ ethos.

Now, my one suggestion, since physics comes into play, is utilizing grade 11 or 12 stainless hardware on the dropouts, to help the bike last many seasons. Due to the additional leverage, having some ultra high grade stainless hardware can solve the issues of both flex breakage, and vertical breakage. Mcmaster carr (company) sells hardware in bulk, so it wouldn't be too much to have it done up, and not add too much additional cost into the bike. Also, going with my 10 years + bmx racing sense, you could also have some "ribs" or boxed pieces/piece running the entire length of the dropout to crate a "T beam" (of course both would be the size of the dropouts. Think Redline chain tensioners from the late 90's in design). This would ease the stress on the dropout pieces and further reduce flex. Heck, making a literal reverse I beam, in terms of having the I part in the middle on both sides would add only a few grams, but make it quite a bit stronger both vertically, and laterally.
Good luck guys. Regardless of if I win with my name, it would be nice to see how things come out. I did include a few names, and if that makes me exempt so be it. I see something worthy of being made, and some people trying to do something new, so I applaud you. Heck, I haven't seen something new for hard-tails since UFO did their twin box frame, Technique did their 100% monocoque frame, and Haro introduced the Haro Monocoque (first BMX monocoque), and SR71 (first entirely extruded tube type) bikes. A+
