by Tyler Maine
For 22 years, the Keyesville Classic (March 19-21, 2010) has drawn casual riders, pro mountain bike racers and their friends and families to participate in a fun-filled weekend of bike-related events. From the entertaining Vintage class and trials events to the highly challenging Bionicon All-Mountain Stage Race where riders tackle the Short Track, Cross-Country and Downhill courses all on the same bike, the Keyesville Classic has something for everyone, riders and spectators alike.

Event Description and History

Held at the historic Keyesville Mining Area in the Kern River Valley, the event brings together local riders, advocacy groups and racers from all over the West Coast to raise awareness and generate contributions for local trail stewardship projects. Because of the long history, the race was granted "Classic" status in 1995 by the National Off-Road Bicycle Association becoming only one of 19 events nationwide to earn this prestigious title.

Event Details

There will be free camping on site and evening entertainment including night rides, a women's bike apparel fashion show, movie screenings and bonfires. A variety of food and beverage services adjacent to the popular Manufacturer's Exposition Area. Bike races will be held all day on Saturday and Sunday, with a very popular kids race and a raffle. The pro racers will be competing for a 100% Payback cash purse, and all competitors are entered in the ever-popular Keyesville prize raffle!

Some of the event highlights include the Bionicon All-mountain race where riders compete in the XC, Short Track and Downhill on the same bike, the Vintage class, and the Trials events. We are also hosting the First Annual Women's Cycling Apparel Fashion Show in conjunction with race.

Registration is online.
