Just over a year ago I went to Red Bull Rampage. I remember standing amongst friends and all sorts of people that came together to watch it all go down. Standing with everyone and listening to people say how nuts this all was, all I could think was "this looks like so much fun... I may not be able to do this right now, but I want to ride this terrain and start free riding." A year later I was back last fall at Rampage helping my friends Mark and Mitch dig for the contest. Since I couldn't ride for qualifiers, after spending all week digging and riding I couldn't wait to ride the venue. After the dust cleared and the wood features were torn down, Steve Lloyd and I went back and filmed this edit. It was awesome to go ride one of the best zones in the world. A lot of people think of Rampage as the best riders in the world coming together, but not only does it bring the best riders but some of the best trail builders in the world. I couldn't have been happier to be able to ride lines and features that everyone came together to build. - KC Deane |

But really though, it's insane how good he is at both sports and also how quickly he seems to be progressing at big mtn. mtbing. I hope he gets invited to the Rampage. It could be very interesting.
Putting a run together: you think KC has more reps than the guys that were invited to compete and built/practiced their line? If more experienced professional freeriders were having a hard time, what do you think will happen when KC has to go bigger than he ever has with everyone watching? He's going bigger than a lot of amateur guys are, but to compete in the Rampage 2 years after starting to freeride is a bit ambitious IMO.
I never claimed he had more "reps". I know he has had more experience riding in this kinda terrain than more than a lot of the people who were invited to ride... if you think otherwise, you're plain ignorant to how some of the top riders spend most of their time. This is a big mtn. mtb comp, that is all. And who is to say that this edit is representative of the biggest stuff he's sent? If anything an edit is a snapshot of how that rider is in that given time. Based on that, I'd have to say he's progressing really quickly and handling gnarly terrain that 99% of riders would never consider. You haven't been paying much attention or you have way too high of expectations of this dude, either way, chill out. It's just mtbing.
But, I'll defer to the Captain of Pinkbike.
This guy in the video, Deane, yeah he just packed more shreddin' of the Rampage site into a 3 minute edit than I've seen Zink do in his whole career. A few big flips & spins does not a fluid rider make. Good rider sure, but "fluid"? Bah.
So hahaha pfffft the f*ck off!!

One year of freeriding might sound a bit deceiving though. Some guys with biking backgrounds (bmx, moto) pick up DH/FR fairly quick and since this guy's a freeride skier, he's probably used to all that air time (and doesn't freeze up like your average trail rider).
Nevertheless, awesome riding, obvious natural skills, and huge nutz for sure!
