| Some news of the not so awesome variety. To cut a long story short, since getting back home from Whistler I suffered a couple of seizures, and woke up from one last Thursday morning to paramedics taking me off to hospital, where tests and scans were done to discover I have a tumor growing in my brain. So for now more scans and doctors appointments and scans over the next week leading to surgery within the next approximately 10 days. The plan at the moment is to then start chemotherapy. Not sure what else to say for now, it’s all hit so fast....needless to say I won’t be at the last 2 EWS rounds this year as this new battle begins.—Jared Graves |
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Jared and his family and we all hope he has a speedy recovery.

Seeing the news about Jared is a super downer but you’re a strong person and you will beat this Jared! Prayers and healing vibes going out for you from my family!
@crag79 prayers out to you and your 2 year old in the form of strength for you and momma and healing for your 2 year old. I’m a father of 3 ranging from 3-9 in age. I’ve been thouroughly blessed with not having to go through anything like what you’re going through. Your young rippers gonna pull through this man!
God bless your boy. I can’t imagine. I’ve got three myself (8 months, 3 and 4 years.) Thanks for sharing.
I don't talk much about it, but thought I would say a couple things that really hit home here... It is a scary scary deal when you are this age and get cancer like that. So confusing when someone says YOU have it. It really put things into perspective for me, personally, work, family, kids... Best thing you have going for you probably right now is your mental strength and your physical strength to beat this stupid thing and come out stronger on the other end... I couldn't thank those doctors and nurses enough who worked on me, try to trust them.
Keep up the good fight man!
Really don't know what to say... just wish all the best for Jared, and hope he'll get back on the bike, maybe the will and the love of the bike and family keeps him strong.
We're with you man!
Stay as positive as you can and attack this like you’ve attacked your mtb career and you’ll be good to go. Just think of the great story you’ll have when you beat this and all the new people you’ll reach and inspire as a result.
Hang in there and stay strong bro!
I have two family members that had very large tumors in their brains which certainly caused some issues and required scary medical intervention but they were not "cancer".
Lets keep a positive mindset here and hope for great outcome once they test.
Hoping all the best for you Jared. You're literally a champion and no doubt have the mental strength to get through this.
Kia Kaha! (Stay strong)
Look, you've represented so many companies in such a great way, been a role model for so many of us. If you need anything, ask. Allow us to do something back. I'm proud to think we as a cycling community helped Andrew Cho from GT when he needed it and I saw some true legends pitch in. If we can invest in the latest parts and components, we can definitely invest in our inspiration.
Stay strong man, you're a fighter!
Btw- my 12 year old daughter was just diagnosed 2.5 weeks ago with a pituitary gland tumor, we are awaiting her surgery as well! We are in San Diego, great teams of doctors out there...shop them!
I suffer with headaches pretty badly, especially when under heat stress. I can ride hard in the winter with no headaches, but in the summer get them even on leisurely rides.
I've always worried that headaches could be a signal of impending issues later on, if people with brain tumors might never feel "off" until they start getting seizures.
I wish you the best healing vibes Grubby. your a strong man and you will wake up next week #f*ckingcancer
Side note: It's really incredible to see the outpouring of support here. Top notch community.
you will get trough this,we all will Help you
Cheers Jared and stay strong!

f#@*k cancer
You see all those little spots all over your skin. How long have they been there ? From what I can tell it looks like you have the cancer virus. Yes you can get cancer from a virus. Many die from it everyday. Its human papaloma virus and there are over 100 strains of it.
I see people all the time with these spots all over their body. around 100 million infected in the US alone. there is no cure unfortunately.
what you see and feel? round discolored circles on your skin. maybe a few here or there. down the road they spread and eventually become pre cancerous. sometimes they are itchy, sometime they are hard and raised but make no mistake.
if you are reading this and you have spots on your body. go to a dermatologist and get every single one removed.
its spread by sexual contact.
I hope they can remove that shit from your brain, man what a shitty thing to happen.
i will pray for you.
