Awards Ceremony Elite Men - GDC Winterberg 2014
The weather was again simply perfect for the finals of the Downhill and Fourcross finals. Under dry but cooler conditions, the riders rode down the tracks once more to fight for the titles of both disciplines.
The first date on today’s agenda were the finals of the BikeUnit 4X Rumble which is the Silverevent of the Fourcross Pro Tour 2014. After the track had been closed for some time due to an accident at the finish line, the race continued with the final runs of the Elite Women and Elite Men categories.
The Licensed Women's category was dominated by Lucia Oetjen (SUI – Thömus Racing Team), with Julia Lackas (GER) in second place and Jessica Schmulbach (GER – Radon Factory Enduro) in third. In the License Man category Quentin Derbier (FRA – Rider’s Spirit-Nicolai) took the title, followed by Felix Beckeman (SWE – RSP/Ghost) and Marco Muff (GER – GT-Team Switzerland). The odds-on favorite Tomas Slavik (CZE – Ghost Bikes) put too much pressure on the start gate and slipped. However, he still nearly managed to ride in second place, but had a huge crash just before the finish line. In the end, he ended up in fourth place.
The audience of the downhill finals was also provided with some high-class racing action by more than 500 riders from 19 different nations. With high speed and nerve-wracking performances on the track it was the perfect last event of the weekend.
In the Masters category Nino Antic (GER – Giant Germany) finished in first, followed by Wilfred van de Haterd (GER – Gates/Nicolai Team) in second and Benjamin Herold (GER - NRG-FOES Racing Factory Team) in third. The U17 Male category was dominated by Max Hartenstern (GER – MTB-Bande Schatzki) who edged out his competitors Kevin Beckschulze (GER) and Max Pfeil (GER – SC Korb Radsport).
In the Elite Women category, the former world champion Morgane Charre (FRAU – Evil Vengeance Tour) was able to prove her skills once more. After she already finished in first place in Saturday’s seeding run, she took the title with a solid 3-second lead in the finals as well. Casey Brown (CAN – Bergamont Hayes World Team) took a step up from seeding run fifth to second place in her final run. Elke Rabeder (AUT – Mauna Loa DH Pro Racing) finished in third and completed the podium.
The Elite Men category definitely bore some surprises. The Seeding Run Fastest Ed Masters (NZL – Bergamont Hayes World Team) crashed big time and ended up in 42nd. Johannes Fischbach (GER – RRP Ghost) took the chance and the title with a best time of 2:04.248 minutes. Florent Payet (FRA – Evil Vengeance Tour) finished in second place, followed by Jack Moir (AUS – Bergamont Hayes World Team) in third. Places 4 and 5 were taken by Team Bulls with both their riders Wyn Masters (NZL) and Christian Textor (GER). Toni Ferreiro (ESP – Evil Vengeance Tour) finished his weekend with a solid 6th place.

We can look back at a fantastic weekend with exciting competitions, skilled riders, huge parties and cheering fans! Let the numbers speak for themselves: with 30 000 visitors, more than 1 000 riders and 100 brands in the expo area the bike park was pretty stuffed all weekend. Now, the expo area, as well as the tracks, are empty and the last visitors are leaving. It’s getting quiet again…
But not for long! We’re already looking forward to the ninth edition of the iXS Dirt Masters Festival from 22nd to 25th June 2015. Until then: Ride on!
