How to watch the 2021 Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole

Red Bull TV may be the official broadcaster for the Mercedes-Benz UCI MTB World Cup but they aren't the only official global broadcaster for the 2021 World Championships. The UCI sells all its World Championships in one package so if a broadcaster wants to show the road event then they get the mountain biking included as part of the deal too. Unfortunately, mountain biking isn't as high ticket as some other disciplines so often it can be broadcast by those channels after the fact or on an unusual station.

In many instances, the broadcast licensing agreements allow Red Bull to broadcast the World Championship XC and DH races, and in those places, you will be able to watch the World Championships as you would during any World Cup race weekend. Globally, however, it's a bit of patchwork as some countries are not included, most notably the USA, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.

The list may still change as last minute deals get done but, as of our publishing date, here’s the full list of countries where the World Championships will be broadcast on Red Bull TV:

 @makripper: yes if your router will let you change the VPN settings (most will if you dive into the menus through the browser login). Some TVs will also let you change DNS settings for using something like Getflix rather than a full VPN

 @flosports broadcasts a lot of high school travel sports like basketball, volleyball, softball and semi-pro sports leagues broadcast on it. They're a legit sight, but they don't give you anything without you giving them your info. Beer

 I used flosports last year. Commentary was the shits. They ran the cameras the whole time so got to see a bunch of riders with no commentary. Missed most of Reece’s run. I complained about quality after cancelling and got refunded.
It’s still some bs that worlds is blocked for selected countries to have sub par coverage by a third party broadcaster.

 I saw the same thing. Have to either create an account or go through a hundred links just to find a price. Anytime the price isn’t prominently displayed you know it’s a rip off. If they really thought they were giving customers a good deal they would want to display the price right up front.

 Tried Opera on a chromebook. Set it to Europe, which should have be open based on the geoblocking list (it appered to set my location to the netherlands). No dice.

 I can't understand why the UCI insists on selling these world championships as a package. The larger networks that are picking this stuff up are clearly only doing so for the road cycling, and likely aren't paying much of a premium on top of that for the MTB to be included. With that said, you would think that they would separate it and allow Redbull to broadcast the MTB portion for free. I would think the exposure to the sport would be more beneficial long term than the likely small amount of money they are making from the rights fees for this one event.

 Redbull TV now showing stream as blocked to your Geo-location in Australia. SBS On Demand is streaming the XC and DH but my confidence is lacking as it refers to the DH as Downhill Country... Maybe they are all racing Down Country bikes this year?

 Absolutely ludicrous this rule - the entire idea of broadcasting is to get as many views as possible? Yet you can't even watch it in the Uk or other country's where downhill mountain biking is super popular. We have to watch it on Demand, meaning we will probably find out the results beforehand absolutely the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of Geo-restrictions that is, absolute madness.

 Funny how NBC lost the rights in the USA, I remember they would not stream the world champs and only play it live at 3 am or something like that a week later. Now Flosports has the rights, but they are, in my opinion, a predatory stream service.

 Welp, knowing what a godforsaken dumpster fire the Red Bull TV website and app are, it would have been unlikely that I'd be able to find the races anyway.... I'm disappointed, but unfortunately am not surprised with this.

 Why is Red Bull lagging so hard on anything American/Canadian? Red Bull Roof Ride. They made the non English stuff really easy to find and rebroadcasted all of it. English was harder and only parts of it. No best trick. No quailes. Etc.

Sorry but if I'm not mistaken most of the world still speaks English as a first or second language. When compared to you know... polish or German.

 @RockCrawler: You're not wrong. My point was that broadcasting in the US/Canada is stupid. I didn't say anything about the block/geo blocking. It was an in general statement on things I've noticed over time.

And yes Red Bull started in Austria but they have Red Bull North America, Inc. That means they have a footprint in north america. And English doesn't just mean North America. English is still the most common language spoken world wide. Again... was talking about English content not geo blocked material. And it should not be too difficult for them to negotiate global access to media.

This is not a unique situation in geo blocking. It's common and it's an issue. It will becoming a bigger issue in the near future and will be a hot button issue for changes needing to be made internationally. This isn't a Red Bull issue. My point with Red Bull was Red Bull lagging on English content and they often do. Even when NOT geo blocked. In this case it's likely that Red Bull does NOT own the rights to the content. They lease it. So that content is regulated based on those copy right negotiations and who is and is not purchasing the content I would guess from UCI.

Want to get into Geo Blocking that's fine.

The US and Canada actually open copy right laws. That's why we're often held to these regulations more often than other places that don't GAF about copyright laws. UK is another place that it's a big issue currently. They have things in place to insure that tax payers get equal access. So all this Brexit stuff plays into that. I'm not a global economics expert so I can't really get into that.

 Seems kinda like the entire sport is immersed in selling things at high cost: bikes particularly. Is that the capitalism you're talking about? Did you forage your entire bike from the forest behind yr house or something? Last I checked everything from frames, suspension, tires & wheels, bearings, lube, chains, brakes, pads, cables & housing (not even counting pads, clothing, helmets) etc was pretty pricy compared to just playing xbox. Not sure how capitalism matters w/ the broadcast but not for the mega-100's of millions bike industry which tends to be quite white & exclusive. Not busting here: just entirely confused. Are you just bartering everything?

 @Mtn-Goat-13: It's not that it costs money, it's that you can't just buy what you want. Red Bull is willing to give them money, and in fact they they do all year long for the World Cups. But because the UCI wants maximum money (and not maximum eyeballs on the individual races), they abuse their power and bundle World Champs, forcing Red Bull to pay for stuff their audience doesn't want in order to get stuff they do want. It's the equivalent of going into a bike shop but not being able to buy just a single mountain bike, but instead only being able to get that bike by buying a (quite expensive) package that also includes a road bike, a TT bike, a BMX bike, a track bike, etc. That wouldn't stand in the physical world, but somehow it's ok for "broadcast rights"?

 @Mtn-Goat-13: Some more analogies to go along with your list. What if you could only buy a chain as part of an entire drivetrain set, so when you wear out a chain, you have to buy at least a mech, a shifter, and a cassette, in order to get that chain?. Or what if you could only buy a helmet as part of a set that included a full-face, a trail half-shell, a road half-shell, and a time trial aero-shell? I'm more than willing to pay good money for a good helmet, but I'm not willing to pay for helmets that I don't need and won't use.

I was able to watch a bootleg streamed version nearly live and it was OK, but I found myself being pissed so yeah: yr right, it was about max $ and not max exposure. Pardon me being a dick (seriously). Ditto on the analogy too and by all means, please don't forage for bike parts in the woods! Doesn't last long and molds quickly.
