Update: We've had another update from Red Bull this morning that confirms 7 countries in South America (Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina) alongside the Netherlands have been added to the geoblocked list as the rights to broadcast the event in those countries has been bought by other broadcasters. Red Bull can also confrim that it can show the event in Belgium.

Update: Sweden, Slovakia, Norway, Malaysia have all been added to the cleared list and will be able to watch the race on Red Bull TV. It was also noticed that Finland was missing from the list. Unfortunately Finland will be a geoblocked country and viewers will not be able to watch the race on Red Bull TV.

Red Bull TV may be the official broadcaster for the Mercedes-Benz UCI MTB World Cup but they aren't the only official global broadcaster for the 2020 World Championships. As in previous years, the UCI has packaged the DH and XC World Championships alongside all of the other cycling disciplines they own and separate licensing agreements need to be made to broadcast the event.

With 2020 supposed to have been an Olympic year, the interest in Olympic disciplines including road cycling, BMX and track cycling was on the rise this year so the rights to their World Championships have been bought by larger, terrestrial broadcasters in some territories. As all the disciplines are packaged together, that means that the downhill and XCO World Championships were bundled in too.

In many instances, the broadcast licensing agreements allow Red Bull to broadcast the World Championship XC and DH races, and in those places, you will be able to watch the World Championships as you would during any World Cup race weekend. Globally, however, it's a bit of patchwork as some countries are not included, most notably the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Italy and South Africa.

The list may still change as last minute deals get done but, as of our publishing date, here’s the full list of countries where the World Championships will be broadcast on Red Bull TV*:

Cleared Territories for Red Bull TV

Viewers in these territories will be fine to watch the World Championships on Red Bull TV. In some territoires the rights are also shared with terrestrial broadcasters. In some territories the rights are shared with another broadcaster. This broadcaster is shown in brackets, check local scheduling for their broadcast plans.

Jump the wall you can walk into mexico with a rocket launcher strapped on. We just watch it live like the last time when Snowshoe was blocked by NBC. We are a resourceful bunch, well most of US.

Nobody in the US wants to hear some generic NBC announcer that knows nothing about DH compared to Rob Warner. This sucks, and I won’t be watching the NBC feed!

@nsteele: Like Todd Harris, he does the domestic bike stuff. Not good when you don't even ride a bike.
  • 10 1
NBC will get a college basketball commentator to do it. "Wow they seem to be going fast but the course looks kind of flat on my monitor so I don't know why they need those bikes with all of that suspension. The bikes also look like the one I back ordered from walmart, delivery date August 2021, so I could probably do this professionally when I get me bike."

I'm a scientist not a...whatever the hell deals with broadcast licensing, but... why can't you just... sell the rights to someone else to cover the places the first broadcaster doesn't show in...
  • 7 0
Most likely because the UCI has legally covered their ass in case someone came up with this ingenious idea. So if your regional broadcaster wanted to sell their right to red bull, the UCI most liekly has a contractual right to intervene and make RB pay them again for the braodcast. If that´s not the case, there´s always a chance they simply prohibit any licensing party from selling off their rights to a third party in order to "protect their product" or whatever the correct business term would be.
Basically, the UCI would rather protect their revenue stream than promote the cycling disciplines they exist to promote in the first place.
  • 1 0
@Loki87: so why can't the UCI just sell rights to company A for broadcasting in region A and to company B for broadcasting in region B?
  • 2 0
@ihertzler: Not sure i get your question? They did sell the rights to different broadcasters for each specific region.
Or did you mean why they had to bundle them up? In that case, because they know they cannot make as much money from selling the rights for DH, trials or whatever niche cycling dsicipline and bundling them into a big package at least allows them to increase the price of the whole thing and forces buyers to pay for something they don´t need if they want the road races.
I´m in no way an expert on the matter either, but that´s what seems most likely to me.
  • 2 0
@Loki87: Or NBC can resell the rights, but it's just not worth the hassle for them.
  • 1 0
 @dthomp325:
Well that is of course always a possibility.
  • 3 0
UCI is clueless on this one. There are certain great truths in life; The world is a sphere. Sun rises in the East, sets in the West. Peanut butter goes great with jelly. Pizza goes great with beer. Warner and Claudio, commentate DH races on Red Bull TV. Period. Any messing around with the above listed order creates additional chaos in a world already rife with it. NBC has no business here. No Warner no DH. It’s that simple.

I understand the interest for XC and Jenny Rissveds, but there is no chance in hell that Swedish public service will broadcast DH.
  • 2 0
agreed. I cant find any info about this in the tv-tablå on svt.se, hopefully they let redbull broadcast the DH WC in Sweden
  • 1 0
@Jolinwood: At least SVT hasnt been known for too much stupidity and considering it is a public service I hope that they just reserv rights to whatever they will broadcast.

Will be super pissed if we cant watch DH..........might as welll start paying for a VPN either way since we loose at lot of stuff here
  • 1 0
@johan90: Watch it on the computer you're staring at with the Opera browser.
  • 6 0
Is it just for live stream or we couldn’t watch the replays either?
  • 1 0
Replays won't work either if you are in the excluded regions.
  • 2 0
Fuck TSN and sports net !!!!!! Useless networks unless your into hockey Hoard coverage rights to events for no reason, only to show them for 15 min at 3 am . Stevie won a world title and they never said one word about it !!!!!!
  • 2 0
Well, at least there is some Crankworx to watch. Me? I'm gonna go ride, do some trail maintenance, and help my local non-profit plan some new trails. Media that charges me to watch AND bombs me with commercial content can go take a pish.
  • 2 0
Canada - Rights held by Flosports and Fubo TV...?

Umm who? I've lived here all my life and never heard of these people. and I've always been able to watch the World Cup on Redbull in the past, so what gives?

Not impressed. I'm also not about to download VPN software and risk getting malware on my computer, so I suppose no WC for me.
  • 1 0
just get hola chrome extension and select austria. very easy
  • 5 0
Finland confirmed not existing Frown ?
  • 1 0
The Truth brought to you by Red Bull. In reality though, Finland hasn't been on these lists for years, yet the streams have always worked.
  • 3 0
@mikkosinisalo: just funny that the major markets of Mayotte and South Sudan made the list but not Finland
  • 1 0
Really which one of our shitty channels would broadcast the races Big Grin
  • 3 0
Time to fire up the ol' VPN! Even if they do show it live (which they won't) watching mountain biking on NBC is just painful.
  • 5 0
Shout out to Hola VPN browser extension.
  • 3 0
For a shitty coverage and some garbage side stories that no one gives a fuck about tune into NBC for a complete and total abortion of what we love to watch
  • 1 2
Maybe just wait and see what they actually do before having a total meltdown. This happened a few years ago and thats exactly the opposite of what happened. This looks like it’s going to air in the evening of the 11th in the US on one of NBCs cable channels. If it’s like last time a broadcast was actually very basic and straight forward. It was 2 hours of just strait riding. Barely and intro of any kind, just straight into riders coming down the hill, with announcers who largely just kept quiet outside of introducing each rider. It was actually not bad at all. Just a pretty vanilla broadcast of just the riders on the track.
  • 1 0
SOUTH AFRICA ..... Supersport ... bunch of idiots. So many people in SA will be missing this race as Supersport are part of a company called DTSV that is ridiculously expensive, and so doing anyone who does not have the means to pay those prices can not subscribe ... and will be missing the World Champs ... every single year!
  • 1 0
I will add, it is not like I am going to rush out and join Supersport to watch only once race a year! Heck ... our TV has not even been connected for the last 4 years to any TV Connections due to the rubbish content on the local channels and not wanting to spend a small fortune to subscribe to Supersports host company.
  • 1 0
I think it's only fair Warner gives a shout-out to all the Afghani, Azerbaijani, Gambian, Sudanese DH fans, and anyone else from one of those Countries you only ever think about when there's a list of strange and foreign lands. Is there a big MTB scene in Gambia? Do they like a Shredit in Mozambique? Is the a burgeoning Youth Scene on Socotra that's going to produce the next Gwin, Minnaar or Atherton? I think they deserve a shout out, even if it's for the 1 die-hard DH fan in Liberia
  • 1 0
Definitely watching it on Red bull.rather than BBC. The BBC are very poor at covering sport other than premier League, F1, cricket, favoured Olympic sports and tennis even when we are all knocked out by some teenagers in the first round!????
I can't never find any mention of Evie Richard winning the short course xc.
  • 1 0
Anyone know when the Redbull replay will become available to all the Geo restricted countries? Can't believe this is a thing, NBC sucks at covering sports like this so nobody watches them even if they could with this network...
  • 1 0
That is pretty fucked up to be honest, who ever made this brilliant decision should be shot in the dick! I don't want to listen to the moron tour de France commentator on SBS, bring Rob and Claudio back, let people chose what they want to watch and where they want to watch it. 1 big fuck you to all the ones involved in making that decision!
  • 2 0
"UK (Also licensed to BBC)" yet it isnt listed on the bbc schedule for any of their channels on either days for the world champs... great work from the BBC there.
  • 3 0
Not sure if the BBC even knows MTB exists.
  • 3 0
The BBC are the worst public broadcasting company in Britain Wink
  • 2 0
Usually on the red button on BBC
  • 2 0
@jdtheconfessor1: there is some improvement. The Paul Bas "Any One of Us" documentary is available on the I-player for the next year. If you haven't seen it already I would highly recommend it.
  • 2 0
Last few years it's been on one of the Red Button channels on Sky and Virgin with everyone else able to watch it on iPlayer. In 2015 BBC Wales even put it on BBC 2 thanks to Manon Carpenter being quite famous due to the Welsh Sports Personality Award in 2014!
  • 3 0
For Canada, Does anyone know if Flosports or Fubo TV will be broadcasting this on TV at all?
  • 1 0
Looks like Flosports will be online, subscription service.
  • 1 0
@spencerbrawn: Fubo has a free 7 day trial....
  • 1 0
@TheBrosCloset: Thanks for pointing that out. Smile
  • 1 0
@TheBrosCloset: yup, jumping on that one.
  • 3 0
But I can still just watch the replay on redbull, like, the next day or whatever right? Does anyone still watch live TV??
  • 1 0
Is that possible? Or does it not show up at all?? Cause if that's the case, I will wait for the replay anyway.
  • 1 0
I also want to know this
  • 1 0
@guitarguy84: Last year, you could not watch the red bull replay or the live feed because of the geoblock. I assume this year is the same.
  • 1 0
 @vesania: Fiddlesticks!!!
  • 1 0
 @vesania: buummmmmeerrrrrrr
  • 1 0
 @vesania: Thank you
  • 1 0
I dont know who the hell bought the rights for chile, but i swear to god, i will find you, and yoy will regret it. The one at redbull who decided to let us pass will come next in my revenge spree.
  • 1 0
Pal pico, todos los años la misma wea...
  • 1 0
I have nordvpn, changed to UK, and redbull is still geoblocking the page for the world champs tomorrow. I tried Belgium too, same thing.

Now what? Can anyone else from the US connect to the UK via vpn?
  • 1 0
F#%k yourself Redbull TV! I was always able to watch the downhill race with their application. Why is it suddenly geo restricted? 2020 is sucking more and more!
  • 3 0
Never even heard of Flosports or Fubo TV for Canada haha

@Dropthedebt: that must be why, I only took one.

@mollow: obviously that means 3 tomorrow.
  • 3 0

  • 1 0
So glad my company laptop has a vpn so I can access the internet through their servers in other countries that can watch this!
  • 1 0
WTF - Canada & the US have to be added. Redbull we are counting on you. North America definitely needs a strong dose of Warner to cheer us up with all this mayhem !
  • 2 0
NBC Universal, meaning we will have to wait another 2 months before it airs at 3:30 in the morning.
  • 1 0
 www.nbcsports.com/tv-listings/full

Anyone have luck finding the broadcast listing on NBC sports? Based on the article they have the broadcast rights currently...

Come on to my House, with some beers and Nachos

Might be easier to share how to watch the World Cup...is there a post on how to watch the World Cup if you are blocked from watching Red Bull TV? (not including vpn sorcery)

I feel like pinkbike could make a small killing in affiliate advertising by chucking a privateinternetaccess or tunnelbear ad up here. ????
  • 1 0
Anyone know how to watch it in Nepal.... ??? There is a blank next to Nepals name!!!
  • 1 0
skorlive.com might have it.. That's how I watch football and every other sport around the world
  • 2 0
NBC ruins all the 2 wheels sports I enjoy spectating
  • 2 0
 Ahahahahahaha. Nice gesture from RB.
  • 1 1
On a side note. Is Gwin racing? He appears to still be in the US ( I thought there was a 15 day quarantine for American to get to Austria, but I might be wrong)
  • 1 0
I'm not to sure he may be able to be fast-tracked through and not have to quarantine, I'm pretty sure kate Courtney didn't quarantine when she went to Czech republic as well as Christopher grice to France. I'm not too sure it's going to be a bit hit and miss. the Austrian government might provide some leniency to it because he is overr their for an elite sports event. Not too sure tho
  • 2 0
@DHhack: I know he is suppose d to ra e. I asked because he is still in California and I'm not sure about travel restriction in Austria.
  • 1 0
@DHhack: supposed to race* (sorry phone is acting up)
  • 1 0
@DHhack: well now I'm even more confused. Maybe they plan to enter from another country from which there are less limitations. Still weird he is not here in Europe already. Let's hope all the riders make it to the venue
  • 1 0
He said on his story the other day last day local riding before heading to Europe. Sounds like all you need covid test and some paperwork from UCI. The FOX guys got in with that and another person at crankworx said the same thing.
  • 2 0
I hear Somalia is wonderful this time of year

What is your preferred one for the Worlds @CFJonny ?

@CFJonny: Thanks. I will check it out
  • 2 0
So is even the replay restricted??????
  • 2 0
 Load the Hola browser extension.
  • 1 1
IP Vanish to the rescue..... Seriously though, absolutely no big names even racing. It's going to be a great year for a handful of unknowns.
  • 1 0
VPN it is. Not watching the summary by someone that's 'knowledgeable' because he watches the TDF...
  • 1 0
Does anyone know if RedBull’s replay will be available to stream after the live event has ended?
  • 1 0
Flosports :: WHY a company based in AUSTIN, TX has the rights on Canadian t.v ? $$$$$$
  • 1 0
Anyone in the UK tested ahead of the race and are getting the Geo Restricted error?

  • 1 0
Will the re-play be on redbull? When??
  • 1 0
Will redbull tv carry the replay??
  • 3 1
 What a joke.
  • 1 0
When was the last time MTB was on SBS?
  • 1 1
Wonder how much NordVPN paid Red Bull to limit viewership in North America?
  • 1 0
NBC bought the US rights and doesn't want to miss out on the chance to charge $55 for a "Cycling Pass" on NBC Sports Gold. This is NBC's frustrating decision to not share the MTB races with Red Bull even though the number of people who would actually sign up to pay NBC just to see the XC and DH races is absolutely tiny compared to their target market of road and track cycling. Red Bull would rather be able to show it everywhere and get more exposure
  • 3 0
@showmethemountains: Looks like spending $20 on a VPN is a much better decision imo.
  • 1 0
so does nbc sports have a plan to air this?
  • 3 2
There's a cycling package. A snip at 50 bucks. Land of the free....
  • 1 1
@BenPea: Why do they even bother anymore, everyone’s just gunna steal it. Some 70 YO relic probably inked this deal.
  • 1 0
@CamNeelyCantWheelie: probably something to do with enriching their brand to suck in a different audience in the hope of extracting a few extra dollars from advertisers. Or it's about keeping rival hands off this meager prize. There must be a calculation somewhere that indicates that this is worthwhile.
  • 2 0
 WTF
  • 1 0
 "VPN" FTFY
  • 1 0
Will anybody in SOMALIA actually watch it? Wink

  • 2 0
@RonSauce: Balance bike racing is actually awesome.
  • 1 0
@RonSauce: you got any links for that ?
  • 1 0
@zede: its usually a live event.

 VPN ftw in SA
  • 1 0
Which one? I tried a few. Got it to work via Windscribe chrome plugin, but it was very slow. And now doesn't work anymore. Tried Opera built in, Proton, etc. and can't get it to work.
  • 1 0
@Jacquers: my windscribe working as I type. Logged into a French vpn. Speed is as good as without RB Tv plays in 1080 on my 15k fiber
  • 1 0
@headshot: Thanks, I'll give it another go. Are you using the browser plugin or Windows app?
  • 1 0
 @Jacquers: windows PC and app
  • 1 0
@headshot: Thanks, got it working with the browser plugin. Vive la France Smile
  • 1 0
Title should read..... without VPN. Way to kill the excitement pinkbike.

Redbull what's going on with ????????
  • 2 0
 Thanks Obama
  • 2 1
Gonna get a nice can of Monster this morning.
  • 1 1
I appreciate what Redbull does for sports like mountain biking but when it comes to the drinks themselves Monster puts out much better tasting products. I don't dislike Redbull but if I'm getting an energy drink its most likely Monster.
  • 2 0
Followed by a severe case of diarrhea most likely...

  • 2 0
 You mean UCI
  • 1 1
 F**k em
  • 1 3
Red Bull only about the money never about the people.
  • 4 0
I don't think its redbulls fault its the sports channels from that country that buy the licenses to air the event and block redbull...I think... As with normal world cups...Redbull airs all over the world...but World Champs is a special event. Looks like UCI has the say if you read the first paragraph -" As in previous years, the UCI has packaged the DH and XC World Championships alongside all of the other cycling disciplines they own and separate licensing agreements need to be made to broadcast the event."
