Matthew DeLorme is just one of Pinkbike’s motley crew of World Cup Photographers. He currently lives out of a Ogio bag, and calls the road his home. Delorme works for Trek Bicycle, covering their MTB racing programs. He can usually be found laying in the dirt trackside, cracking jokes and saying things that make little to no sense. Nathan Hughes was snared as mainstay Pinbike media crew for the 2013 World Cup season and has been trapped behind the lens and the keyboard ever since. In between the biggest bike events of the year Nathan can be found on client shoots, making far-off travel stories and trying to catch a moment to spin the pedals himself. A great appreciation of the wilderness, the fear of a normal life and the quest for the perfect picture will have him hooked and looking to raise the bar for years to come.

@ka-brap America is a continent, not a country. It´s egocentric, disrespectful and stupid when people from the United States (of the continent of America) call themselves "Americans", diminishing the rest of the american nations. You dont hear british people referring themselves as "europeans" or naming their nations "United Kingdoms of Europe". People from the States, why cant u learn history?
  • 6 3
Uh North America and South America. Just sayin.
  • 43 8
 North America = Continent
South America = Continent
United States of America = only country in either continent with "America" in its name, hence why it's citizens are Americans.

How is that so hard?
  • 43 4
I believe I speak for most Americans when I inform you that it is simply shorthand for "the united states of america". And you sir should just chill out a bit. This is a discussion on a biking website, not national geographic forums. Find another place to be a dick.
  • 14 5
Using 'Americans' to refer to people from the USA reflects the linguistic customs of the English-speaking world (not just the USA), not any decision by any people actually living in the USA, much less a decision of ours that reflects egocentrism, disrespect, or stupidity. That's not to say that it is an ideal moniker, but it is to say that your accusation, relying for its validity on facts about the intentions, views, and nature of the people from the USA, is baseless. A more reasonable strategy would be to simply advocate for the use of a more neutral term by noting the fact that 'America' can refer to a broader geographical area than the USA alone. This latter strategy would also have the benefit of being more effective, given that it's hard to convince people of your view when you baselessly insult them.

@ka-brap neither South America nor North America are continents. America = South + Central + North America.
@takeiteasyridhard it might be a shorthand for "United States of America", however it´s still not right. But I dont expect u "americans" to really comprehend how rude it is this situation.
@northstatebiker if you think my argument is baseless and insulting, think harder and deeper thats all im gonna say. Linguistic customs can not be an excuse for the misuse of the word "America/ns". It was u from the very beginning of your nation who chose to call your it and yourselves that way. If that and the outrage of dozens of nations have suffered by the egocentrism, disrespect and stupidity of ´Murica means a baseless insult to you, then you're one reason why many humans on planet Earth strongly dislike your people. Go America!!!
  • 14 3
@MedellinColombiaDH learn some geography before you try to argue about it
  • 7 1
Both South America and North America are continents...

Part of the issue that takeiteasyridehard is bringing up is that there isn't a good alternative in English to refer to people from the USA. Alternatives have been proposed but none have stuck. Come up with a good one and promote it!

As for what you said to me, I don't think you understood what I said. I didn't make an excuse for the term or provide a justification of the term; I provided an explanation of its use. I did deny your explanation, which relied on false claims about the people of the USA and the others who refer to them as Americans. I also helpfully criticized your argumentative technique, though I see I didn't convince you. As for the separate claim about our egocentrism, disrespect, and stupidity, I'll pass. Have a good day, sir!

We have lived same thing in 2011 when Aaron started winning his first world cups and people were shouting "Americah". And I was the kind of douche bag to say things revolving around same stuff like "US is fat, stupid country messing the whole world up". My standpoint simply could not take the burden of hipocrisy of an European talking such bullcrap, accusing others of his own treats, so it collapsed. I am glad that I am free of this disease, I can freely cheer for Aaron and America because no ideology stands between them and my enthusiasm for such heroic performance. I am happy that Americans can be so happy for a dude from their country winning. Fans were a huge part of this show. Whatever America stands for in someone's view of the world, Aaron simply deserves to be treated as a great rider, who pulled off an incredible run, just because politics or religion are a part of everyone's life, does not mean we have to be stupid enough to push it on the very lad.

nice concept for a reality tv show.
  • 7 3
@parnifel i disagree, i enjoy watching the womens just as much as the mens, any one of those girls on the podium could beat rachel, and dont forget about ragot, shes wicked fast too.(sucks she got injured) rachel trains hard and it shows, its definately pushing the other girls to go faster as well, and its only going to get more exciting.
  • 3 0
Rachel can make mistakes, and when she does it is anybody's race. These mistakes are rare because she is pure awesome. She is also quite humble and respectful to her competition. All this makes watching her win all the better. Go Rach!
  • 4 0
ragot didn't get near the coverage on being injured as she deserved on being rachels main adversary. all of a sudden the womens race was dull, because emmiline wasn't there to give it a go!
  • 3 0
luckily Nicole is back on gas for this race otherwise it would have been dulll. I always like watching the womens race - this year Rachel has just been on another level - Ragot was the only one who was a threat and now shes out. Next year I bet we will see Manon back on full gas, Tahnee getting faster again, Ragot and Nicole healthy. And dont forget Hannah hucking everything!
  • 2 0
But lets be honest, watching Rachel win week in week out is getting boring, last season was great but this season I don't even watch the women's as you already know she will win anyway, it's not really pushing the other girls to go faster, more them wondering if they will ever get a win e.g. Tahnee Seagrave, she deserves a win and more than likely won't get one unless Rachel crashes or doesn't race!

I am one of the rowdy, patriotic, Americans at Windham this past weekend. Why does anyone even care that we call ourselves Americans? We are proud people, love our flag and arnt afraid to get rowdy and in your face. With that said, we don't hate on any other country and will rip bikes and pound beers with anyone who's cool. So everyone chill out and just have fun and do cool shit! Oh yeah and America f*ck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!????????

So I started reading this only hoping to find that one of the photographers caught @PhilKmetz so called "massive wipeout" only to find that it was the first Pro Mens photo and then to soil myself upon seeing that nac picture! #phillsosmooth

I think Phil and Missy both wore the same USA jersey? Does anyone know who makes it?
  • 3 0
It's the official jersey that was given to the the riders who did not have the required 20 uci points and petitioned for a federation spot. So that's why both Missy, myself and a few other riders were wearing that jersey.

I actually didn't take a look at who makes it and don't think it's sold to the public (sorry!!), but if it is, it would probably be sold through the USAC website.

Hope that helps

Gwinn needs some rainbow stripes to add to his jersey. I'm hoping this is his year for a Worlds. He's coming out hot from this race, looking forward to worlds.
