Race Report: iXS International Rookies Championship

The Kona International Rookie Games from August the 6th to the 9th at Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Tyrol, crowned its queens and kings of downhill at the iXS International Rookies Championship. Young racers between the ages of 11 through to 18 battled for the win on the course that challenged even the best: fast open, wide and loose corners, large kicker jumps, rock gardens, tight and technical switch backs. The 1.5 km long race track at the Waldbahn in Fiss drops almost 400 meters in height. The fastest of the nearly 200 riders dip under the 3 minutes and 30 seconds barrier on a good clean run on a challenging and technical track.



Tough fights were fought among the contestants that came from literally all over the world - accross Europe as well a handful from the USA and Australia. The wheater today was again hot and sunny so the track was dry. Results were really close and the young racers showed their passion for the sport in very emotional finals. The scenes in the finishing area led from joyful cheering and tears of happiness to frustration after near podium misses and technicals.

The Family Challenge at the Kona International Rookie Games

Not only the kids but also their accompanying parents had the chance to race at MTB-Festival Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. In the so called Family Challenge mums and dads came into the mix. In the end, the family with the fastest overall time on the track won.


Among all the father & son teams there were two father & daughter teams who came in 2nd and 3rd. A special credit goes to Joanna and her daughter Marta Wypiór - both from Poland. They competed great in the Family Challenge although Marta is only 10 years of age.


Her brother Igor and her father Rafal were also racing the Family Challenge.
