Five Ten have launched the latest addition to their Trailcross range with the new XT flat pedal shoe.

Just like the already released LT and Mid Pro Trailcross shoes, the XT takes inspiration and technology from the Adidas Terrex trail running shoes, but it still features the Stealth sole and tread of Five Ten's more traditional shoes.

As with the rest of the Trailcross range, the XT is designed to perform well both on and off the bike. With the new model, they have added a closed-off mesh cuff that's designed to keep debris out of the shoe and provide extra support. The new mesh cuff is also part of the changes Five Ten made to create a shoe that is more usable across a range of conditions.

The Trailcross XT is available in two different colours



How does the XT compare to the rest of the Trailcross range?
Whereas the LT is more of a dry weather, lightweight and breathable shoe and the Mid Pro are the beefier, high top and rugged option, the new XT tries to combine the features of both of these models into a flat pedal shoe that is less focused on a specific use.

Unlike the LT model, the XT features a closed-off mesh cuff, taking inspiration from the Mid Pro although it is shrunk down to a smaller form factor. However, the XT does not take the D30 ankle protection found on the Mid Pro shoes.

Another noticeable change is the front of the shoe where a lot of the thin breathable material on the LT has been thickened with more padding; this should make it slightly more bearable for longer riders in colder or wetter conditions.

The tongue on the XT has also changed from a lightweight breathable material to the same material used on the cuff.

 My first pair of 5.10s lasted me 3 seasons. I've gone through 2x pairs of freeriders so far this year, holes in the bottom open up from pedal pins. Seems like the durability has gone way down since Adidas bought them.

 I’ve got the ones that came out last year and it’s not separated but it is not waterproof so you can’t stand in more than half an inch of water without getting soaking feet

Sizing is massive, old version were perfect for me this version is a size too big

And I feel the pins on the pedals get stuck in the grooves on the sole which makes repositioning hard sometimes

Overall I feel like they tried but didn’t get anyway to wear the actual shoe before releasing it so I’m not very happy and I loved the older version other than it wasn’t waterproof at all

 @wilbersk I’d buy a cold weather high top if they came out with them too! Only problem is they don’t sell these anywhere in Canada for whatever reason. They won’t even let you make a purchase and ship to a Canadian residency from their website. This makes it difficult to try on for sizing if you can come across a pair for sale other places online. I bought a pair of mids from Jenson and followed the measurements exactly as per the Adidas/FiveTen size chart which told me I’d be a 12.5. Turns out they were at least a half size big. I could have even got away with an 11.5 I think.
Just a little info for those of you interested in picking these up outside the UK/USA.

 Re: a cold weather version, they announced a Trailcross GTX Mid that was supposed to start shipping in August. Not sure what the status is, or why it wan't mentioned here.

 Same here, came in way too big so sent back and got a half size down. Got the lowtop version and they are nice and light (useable) for all day riding.

 I have been using the LT model Since the start of the year. I really like them, but sometimes I get grit creeping into the shoe which the new cuff should help keep out. But they have been a really good summer shoe with being breathable And drying fast after creek crossings, which I could never say about 5-10 flats before.

 I always find to european sizing to be most accurate. Bought 2 pairs of shoes from specialized, 6 years apart, both size 10. The older shoe was an EU42 I believe and the new shoe was EU43

 Yea they do run a full size small just about. I usually wear a 13 and was told to order a 12. They’re snug but they feel perfect.

What are you talking about? Live to Play Sports (Norco) is the distributor in Canada, so you can order these from basically any bike store. I've had some of the Trailcross Mid Pros for ages. Or are you talking specifically about the GTX version?

 We need the GTX in such a bad way. Freerider EPS is the closest there is, and it’s a duff magnet in high top version (needs an ankle sleeve). Why, WHY doesn’t anyone make a proper waterproof/winter flat pedal shoe. WHY?????

 Talking about winter shoes, the GTX looks good for cold and dry days, but I can't image they would keep my feet dry (and thereby warm) on a rainy or snowy day (it's rarely dry here in the winter).

I'm really missing a possiblity to buy something like a flat pedal version of the Shimano MW5, see the shoes on their website underneath. Or does anyone know some? I don't even care which brand, just want to keep my feet warm and dry in the winter without those annoying shoe covers on flat pedals.

 They make perfect sense. Skate style shoes are overly big and heavy. I know they work well for DH/Freeride as they offer more protection, but for more XC-like riding I would definitely prefer these over bulky warm shoes.

 Used the older version of Adidas Terrex Trail SL for a few years and they were by far the best trainers you could get...especially in all black. Best rubber, with much better foot protection and "water-proofing" than regular 5/10s. Since these became so hard to get in the UK I was forced to go to 5/10's. I like the new model but those strange "ridges" or cuts on the side are unnecessary and just look like the weak point that will either catch something on the trail or gets unglued...really bad call from the designer imo.

 same, loved my pair of those shoes as well. Got a set of Freerider Pro's that just don't fit me quite as well. And tried on the Trailcross LT and it felt like a regular sneaker with stealth rubber on it, not very stiff and supportive like the Terrex Trail SL. Wish I could get a new pair of those, but alas no longer made around here.

 Five Ten went down the drain when they sold out to Addidas. They used to be so great supporting roots level racing and keeping the small guy in mind. Now there just another division of addidas looking to sell me some cheap imported trash for way to much money!! These shoes are a prime example of how they have changed for the worse. These look like basketball shoes. Boooooo Fiveten you are not who you used to be!

 And not to mention, after Addidas bought them out they immediately stopped selling their stealth rubber to cobblers so -- in the infrequent event -- the soles wear out before anything else, you have to buy a new pair instead of getting them re-soled. Adidas obviously prefers profits over reducing waste.

 @herbertmarcusavich: Infrequent???? The soles go a long time before the uppers, on the Freeriders in my experience anyway. Pedals just chew right through them. I only weigh 145 Lbs and have thrown 3 decent pairs of said shoes in the bin as the sole was goosed and the top had years left.

 @herbertmarcusavich: I'm happy with it. it's probably not 100% as a sticky, but it hasn't given me any issues and it is lasting much longer than the Stealth did.

 I bought the Mid and Low versions this spring. The circular knobs on these soles are taller than my other 5.10s and grip better. I even rode with one of my Freeriders on one foot and this model on the other foot to compare wearing One Up alloys and Chromag Daggas. I slipped a pedal w/ the Freerider on the OneUp, but were glued to the Dagga while riding both. However, I really felt locked in at the park while wearing these. Just hope they
last long!

 I've had a whole summer (a good summer) on the low top's and really like them. Only one river dunking but they have held up fine so far. I wonder how cold they'll get in the winter.

 How's the sole stiffness on these? I've got a pair of freerider canvas which I find too floppy and had to add a ski footbed for support. My freerider ELCs are perfect for me.

 @mountainsofsussex: stiffer than I expected. Not quite as stiff as my old Impacts, but way stiffer than my Etnies Crank (those Semenuk skate type shoes). Similar to the ELC's I would guess.

 @arrowheadrush: yeh, it feels like thickened rubber, not a proper hard box section or anything. I did take a pretty bad crash a month or so ago where one foot was dragged along hard stony ground (amongst other body parts) and the toes were fine.

 I've got the midtops and have been riding them regularly since about March. I like the breathability and they dry really quickly. I sorta like the neoprene cuff, it keeps a decent amount of stuff out, but when a small pebble or other small debris gets in they're more involved to take off/put on than my old Freerider Pros. I don't really like the fit too much, Adidas should've stuck with the FiveTen lasts I think. Compared to my Freerider Pros, I had to size up a 1/2 size to get the width and even then they feel a bit narrow but long. I find on long pedals (~20+ miles) I start getting bunions/sore in the toe box and on rough descents there can be some fore/aft movement of the foot inside the shoe and you can't really get the lace tension right to address this without causing other issues. I'll still go to my 2 year old Freerider Pros for lift serve DH days over these as they feel like they grip better and my foot doesn't move around as much. As the weather starts to get colder I'll probably run a wool/ski sock for warmth.

 I like the cuff. It should keep dirt out when you have to push some dirt around to shore up a lip. The extra material around the toe also helps keep dirt out. If they make it for a second year I might try it.

 Tried to find these on the addidas website... waste of time. They aren't listed as a biking shoe and searching for them returns no results. You can google straight to the right page but otherwise most of the biking shoes are effectively hidden. Tons of broken links and the navigation takes you in circles, reshuffling the same incomplete list of shoes in slightly different, overlapping categories. Get your shit together Addidas!

 Their website and e commerce efforts are laughably bad. They will show a banner ad that leads to... no shoes available. Product selection is random, haphazard, lack of sizes, mix of old and new product. It doesn’t seem like Adidas cares about the FiveTen brand. I tried to send some feedback to their site bot and it wanted my phone number so they could call me.

 I bought the XT (far left version) when they were first available on the 5.10 site. While they're not perfect, they are by far my favorite flat pedal shoe that I've tried. (I haven't touched my Freeriders since.) The mesh actually provides good ventilation and is so nice for places like SoCal where it's mostly hot & dry. Your socks and feet will be dustier after a ride but it's a small price to pay for increased cooling on 85+(F) days. As far as sizing, the toebox is a tad wider than Freeriders, but not enough to downsize. For example my feet are a 10e and I wear 11 in 5.10's. On upsized Freeriders the toebox is still just a bit narrow and they're just about perfect on the XTs. What I don't like is the heel lift, meaning they are thicker in the back of the shoe than the front. This doesn't make sense to me for a few reasons. Other things I don't like is there is no system to keep the laces down and not a BOA option. I'm tired of snagging/ripping laces on stuff or having them come undone midway down a long descent.

 I just tuck my lace bow under the lace crossing close to the toe box. Not as nice as a purpose made holder, but never really had an issue with them coming out and being eaten.

 @JeremyC: I’ve done that with my freeriders and still had issues. Laces snagging/ripping isn’t constant issue, however, some sort of lace retention or lace cinch system seems like a fairly obvious design improvement when going to the effort to design a new shoe.

 It’s weird the XT doesn’t have it, but my LTs and my buddy’s Mod Pros both have an elastic loop with a pull that holds the laces.

 i own these, really comfortable and breathable shoes but the only complaint is that since i ride in dusty trails in Utah your toes are covered in dust after a ride, dust seeps through the vent holes. still really great flat shoe tho

 I have a pair. Very comfortable but definitely for Dry and warm theater. Not much of a hiking shoe....but it almost seems like it floats on your feet. I have done some long rides with them on and they were very good fo that. The Toe box is pretty strong too. Overall I am happy I got them. Will they last? I give them a year as all other 5-10's I had....

 @Staktup: Agreed. The rest of 5.10s shoes look like they came straight from 2004...horrible. This is the first MTB shoe I've seen that looks more like a shoe and less like a lame skate shoe from last decade. That being said I do own 5.10 Freerider Pros as they are great on the bike and only mildly embarrassing to wear.

 Shimano is offering the ME7 in a wide this year. So that's pretty much the only clipless option. For flats, there's nothing out there like the VXi. I scooped up a couple spare pairs when they were discontinued.

 I used 44.5 on columbias for a long time and this shoe doesn't fit me on 45 1/3 its long and narrow, i need 46 or maybe 46 2/3 to fit but it will be too long

 I’ve used 5Tens since they released the first Impacts (and had some Intense shoes way back when) but damn do they make ugly shoes now. I currently have a pair of Freeerider Pros and they just look like skate shoes. The Impacts weren’t pretty but we’re much better looking than these.

 I’ve been riding the mid pro’s since I got them in early spring. I’ve had free riders and giro chamber 2 for years. The mid pros have been awesome for me. Light, grippy and keep dust and muck out. I played soccer (gk) for decades and like the adidas fit, so these new 510’s work for me. The LT’s and XT’s look good too. Surprisingly the soles have held up well after months of riding vp and one up flats.

 I have the low top version and the only issue I have with them is the rubber is sticky and picks up everything and the cuf of the shoe is so open that everything lands inside the shoe. They are constantly full of pebbles. To make it worse the insole has little holes that gather pebbles, so even if you don't walk in any dirt you still end up with uncomfortable dirt in your shoe.

 Sounds like they could sell a lot of mid Gtx versions for people riding in cold weather... They just need to make the damn things now. I've ordered some LT's to wear with sealskin socks and got a giro switchblade on order just 'cause I want warm ears. Nice to have good gear in the winter to keep riding in relative comfort

 Had a pair and the sole delaminated. They were comfortable and grippy. They have zero inventory so they are refunding me and I have to find them elsewhere.

 got to agree the outer sole will be destroyed quickly on these trailcrosses.

i want my old sh-mx80 shimanos again with 5 ten stealth sole, both flat and clipless version, please make a addida/5-ten pro version like these old shimanos, these shoes were great performers and seemed indestructible.

 Check out the Sidi Dimaro (yes that Sidi). Just copped a pair for myself and so far they're fantastic. Super comfy, good sole rubber, real laces, cover flap, ankle gaitor thingy. Stoked on em.

 arent mtb shoes flat for a reason, like because you want to be able to get your heels down? these look like they have a heel to toe drop, which would only make that harder

 I like the VXi but unfortunately they don’t make them anymore. Anyone had experience of both the theVXi and Trail Cross, wish to share comparison? Thanks.

 These are very narrow, more narrow in the toe box compared to the freerider and freerider pro.

 These will look great with some white skinny jeans at Fashion Week or in Ibiza. For riding, I’ve long switched to Giro Chamber IIs. Huge step up from the VXIs in quality. Keeping a new pair of their DJ/casual shoe for riding to town/beers/food.
