dont really follow xc but it seems like everytime i check these articles nino schurters the number one guy. is he the rachel atherton of xc racing or what?
Nino looks like he's on track to surpass Absolon's WC win record within the next few years. Although I've never seen him race in person, his riding style reminds me a lot of Tomac.
I too would be interested in ages. You'd think younger guys with higher levels of natural testosterone would be faster, but I suppose age, training discipline and innate talent are more important.
Racers born after '94 race in the u23 and athletes in cycling usually peak around 30-32 years. Younger cyclists are good in xc sprint. Cooper finished in 18th place.
@maximesl: I saw his place but didn't know why but he's now followed up on Facebook. He was boxed out at the start and it sounds like strategy/ tactics got the better of him.
@Fresc: huh Im pretty sure I saw Jenny on the podium at sea otter. I could be wrong but I happened to be standing there waiting for some results and the women's XC awards happened. Ms Courtney couldn't get her champagne bottle open an Jenny was like SMH
Sad news reaches us from Jenny Rissveds. In less than a month she has lost two close family members. Still in shock about this big loss, she is not in condition to race and will unfortunately not be able to be part of the first two World Cup races. Everyone from the team wishes her from our hearts all the best during this difficult time.
@Pynchonite: Just watched the replay and Nino basically treated everyone to a pain buffet right from the start pulling about 25 seconds on 2nd place within the first lap and he never needed to look back. Schurter really put on a clinic. VDP was clearly there for the sprint start but basically got dropped on the first climb. By lap 2, he was back to at least 22nd position. Then, during lap three and four, he seemed to gather himself and had moved up to about 15th place but I believe it was after lap 4 of 7 that he surprisingly called it quits.
Agreed with the awesome day for Specialized. The ability of Gaze to move from the sixth row to the top ten in the first lap and finish fourth, given the pace of Schurter, was totally impressive!
@teamtoad: Where's the replay, wouldn't mind seeing the start. Anton said on facebook that he put too much faith in some riders wheels and was expecting them to lead him out but got boxed in instead. Thinking he's talking about VDP.
@KiwiXC: Redbull Tv site. The start was crazy fast and without a start loop leading in to the first climb. The first/second lap from Nino were amazing and pushed all others to their limit while creating a serious gap.
Great work by Gaze, but what happened to Cooper? Can't find any info.
